Kleenex is good stuff for what it's designed to do, but is harder for septic tanks and sewage systems to digest. There's a reason actual toilet paper is designed for toilet use and is woefully messy and to blow your nose into, it disintegrates into little teeny fibers when wet. One might survive the current situation only to be faced with expensive septic tank cleaning in a few months due to clogged pipes by strong-soft soggy Kleenex tissue hanging onto any little obstruction in the system.
Just sayin'. Happened here a couple times a few years ago until the landlord had a talkin' to to the neighbors in the other apartment.
I just read through most of this and I have to shake my head at a lot of this. Is COVID-19 dangerous and highly infectious... yes, is it dangerous to the elderly, those with health issues and compromised immune systems... absolutely. I have Type II so I fall into this category myself. But this is certainly not the world ending cataclysm that many are trying to make it out to be. Most people are getting and surviving this with very little issue. Everyone wants to latch onto the negative on everything, especially the news media now days. They want to be "Ain't it awful" people instead of trying to calm people and tell them how they can protect themselves from this. That is where most of the panic is coming from.
Maybe I am just way to jaded to worry about this, being in a war zone for 16 years can do that to you, I guess. At least our PX has shelves full of toilet paper but we are out of hand sanitizer and cleaning wipes. On the downside we must wear our body armor outside and have a curfew from 7pm to 6am where we are not allowed to move around outside unless it is absolutely required. A lot of people just really need to take a step back and take a breath before you give yourselves a coranary.
I realize that I live in an environment that is vastly different than all of you, but seriously folks while this is serious it is not some global population killer with a mortality rate hovering around 90% like some are acting like. All you have to do is practice social distancing and common sense… Oh yeah, and stop hording toilet paper!
.
Fear mongers and hoarders can be worst than the event that is causing the panic .But what is worst is people praying on others in a time of crises. The police here arrested 4 people who were trying breaking into peoples camps and summer home here last night . I know that kind of stuff happens all the time not just in times of crises . it just makes it more deplorable & scary when it does happen.
Oh BTW Happy St Patrick's day everyone
Stay safe I hope the situation improves in your environment.
In the UK the government is now telling people not to go to pubs, clubs or restauants but isn't telling them to close. Some people are saying this will kill their business but without an offical order to close they can't claim any insurance or compensation to cover it.
I'm not in the highly at risk category but I am getting more cautious. I just received a package of filament for my 3D printer. Instead of opening it and getting started at once I've put it in the back room, washed my hands and I'm leaving it for four days before touching it again. That sounds like long enough for any virus on the box to die off accoording to most reports I've read. I don't know if this is necessary or even if it is good enough but I'll do it and hope for the best.
In Ontario the Government declared a "State of Emergency" and closed down bars and restaurant, leaving only takeout as an option.
nothing wrong with being couscous. playing it safe is good cheap insurance for your health
So let's stay together as humans and work together to solve this. We can be at each other's throat later when people are not dying any longer.
For st patty's day i decided to make some egg bread and risen nut bread. I love my bread machine only take a couple of hours to make about any type of fresh bread even pizza dough. much easier than having to hand need the bread dough for sure.
So maybe this is a dumb question ,but from when do we start counting the 14 days of self isolation? The last time we go out ? I am confused ,but considering on average I only get out about once every 2-3 weeks anyway ,just wondering .
I think if you are self-isolating because you think you may have the virus you should start from when you think you were exposed or from when you first thought you had symptoms of it. But he number ot times I used the word "think" in that sentence shows I don't really know.
No I don't think I've got it but am confused about the whole staying away to not get it thing ,yeah "I think there fore I am confused" ......
Well, for now, it's a matter of staying away from people generally until they say it's okay not to stay away from people.
The 14 days thing is to see if you develop symptoms if you think you might have come in contact with the virus. The virus can take up to 14 days to result in noticeable symptoms. You can also transmit the virus even if you don't develop symptoms yourself.
Okay so that makes sense ,and actually pretty easy for me anyway .......
My Mom taught me to cook when I was in my teens, almost 50 years ago, and I loved cooking. She tried to teach me to make bread but I never got the hang of it, though I can make great tea buns and cakes.... I make a great carrot cake. Mom made fantastic bread, white and whole bread, and I still love the crunchy crust from toast. My brother is fantastic at making bread, and often treats me to a loaf.
Here a lot of food is imported, though like most places we were completely self-sufficent in food in the before time. I strongly suspect that this will awaken many people to again start growing their own food.
But You can't wipe your behind with a smartphine/tablet/laptop/whatever that digital edition is displayed upon... and newspaper is better to start a fire for the bar-b-q or when camping, too... you can also wrap fish in it or eat your fish and chips dinner out of a selfmade bag - traditionally "The Times", because their ink was most tasty (at least that's what I've been told) - and not to forget the rolled newspaper to give your dog a little slap when he used the livingroom as a toilet again...
So for me real Newspaper beats digital edition by a lot.
it's not so much that YOU don't get it, is so you don't SPREAD it. you could contact someone who has it, and carry the flu to someone else, without being sick yourself, thus spreading it around without knowing. Isolation is for sick (quarantine) and social distancing- staying home as much as possible/away from others physically- to prevent the spread of sickness.
Them's fightin words to a Texan
Beans in chili = Spanish Beans. I know, I know, the rest of the world puts beans in chili but you know what? THEY'RE WRONG!!!
And besides you can't make good Frito Pie using Chili with Beans.
Deleted because somehow this was included in the next post.
I just got some vitamins delivered from Amazon. I opened the box then washed both my hands AND the vitamin bottle for 20 seconds lol. But I also have a bunch of mail. I hope none of it is time sensitive because I really don't feel like dealing with it.
BTW, I read that Amazon is either stopping or lowering deliveries of non-essential items. Luckily I have enough aromatherapy bubble bath to get me through this crisis lol.
I'm staying in until LA County officially says it's OK to go out again. I didn't go on a hoarding food spree and think I have enough food for 14 days but I have protein powder and red & green powders as a back up. I can, of course, venture out to get food but would rather not. Stay in until your government says it's OK to go out again. 14 days from yesterday at least to be safe.
I like what you did with the power cord. What HDRI did you use?
Plus it gets expensive to line the bottom of your bird cage with cell phones and tablets. Although one good sized monitor would suffice.
I get my monthly SS check tomorrow (3rd Wednesday) and my local little town grocery gives a 5% discount to seniors on Tuesdays so I did my monthly grocery hoar... (er... shopping) today. I was surprised to see that the paper towel section was wiped out, empty, zilch, gone! As were the multi-packs of toilet paper (i.e. TP). Although, single rolls of TP were still available but the soft on your butt stuff was gone, only the single-ply, 1000 sheets per roll stuff was left. Which was no problem for me because that's what I use. Yay!
HOWEVER, there was a sign that said "LIMIT: 2 ROLLS PER CUSTOMER!"
So the hoarding has even hit this little bottom of the gully town too. On the once a month day when I buy a big supply of groceries I tip the stock boy to drive me home (3 blocks) with my way-more-than-I-can-carry hoar... (er... purchase). He's always chipper and glad to help, but when I flagged him down today he had a haggard look and kind of agreed but said he was really busy. I could see in his eyes that look of, "oh, please not today it's hell here today". There were some bare places in the shelves and some of the stuff I usually buy was either out or only unfamiliar alternatives available. e.g. I wanted some powdered milk just in case whole milk became scarce but there was none, not even a place for it on the shelves. Also, they were out of bread completely except for small loves of raisin bread. I never buy that but needed something for my late night piece of toast. Actually sounded good so I bought a loaf. I'll check back at the store tomorrow after their usual bread delivery day to see if they have my usual, wonderful, thick sliced, sweet, moist "Dutch Country" whole wheat bread. (They better have
, this is the one week a month when that expensive bread is priced 2 for 1). Oh, yes..., I did get a ride home with someone that lives in town. An advantage of living in a small town.
But in all the hub-bub and stress of finding a ride home I didn't check my receipt and the new young checkout girl didn't automatically give me my 5% discount.
So, another reason to go back to the store tomorrow. (Hey, $9 is $9 and worth making at least a small fuss over)
You make me smile
That be a good render wouldn't it? only this smell better than it looks . I'm just a simple ol country girl I like cooking things from scratch. I just cheat with the bread machine. Cooking is a art form itself ,
bread machines all done whirling its in the cook process. The bread i made is a unbraided Hola its going to be used in tonight family st patty's day dinner. I'll make a cinnnom rasin nut bread after this one is done for tommrow.
I see in the flyer we got in the mail today at "The Farmer's Coop" has baby easter chicks on sale 5 for $10, I think hubby gone to get a dozon of them if there any left.
That will be a lot of chicken soup!
most for the eggs the chicks are seem to be always hens for some reason.
That's a lot of scrambled eggs too. :- )
I remember (none to fondly) summers at my Uncles farm cleaning chickens...
yea that is bad part of owning them. that and sweeping out the hen house . packing fresh staw. once a week gather eggs in the morning.
I usually share them we the neighbors. We have had chickens right up until the foxes or weasels got into the hen house this winter and clean them . I was watching the boys wash the incubators & put flashing around the hen house to hopefully that will fix that from happening again. properly have to get another rooster though. unless one comes with this bunch of chicks.
It is the end of the world as we know it and I do not know how I feel.
Yes but doesn't "FRESH" fried chicken (as in running around the barn yard that morning) taste so good? And I could eat Eggs 3 times a day, 7 days a week.
