Lessons from Gone with the Wind ... if one has LOTS of stuff during times of 'and nobody else does' ... the army marching through will help themselves to your goods for redistribution.

Unlike the gone with the wind, some of us are ready for them. wink

Reminds me of what I woud tell people when they asked what preperations I was making for Y2K ( anyone rermember that?)  When they were telling me what they were doing and asked what I was doing, I would tell them "I am collecting ammunition and addresses".  That seemed to hush them up wink

Ya Y2K luckily turned out to be unfounded scare. But this pandemic has real potential to be come something this world has not experienced since the black plague.

What concerns us more is not people that are hungry & looking for help, our group prepared  to take is some of those people willing to work with us.   But if thing were to  go on  & last longer than they expect say a year.  and the nations around the world start to go into to collapse . then our HUGE concern is the roving gangs preying on the weak &  un-expecting people , stealing and looting  resources.  Think Mad Max.

Our group  remembered what happen during hurricane Katrina in New Orleans.   That's not going to happen in our area I guarantee it . we may been called crazy hill billy rednecks cling to our guns and bibles. . But we will definitely will show  exactly how tactical we can be protecting the community.  our group is a community is family ,  there will be no Katrina in this area or in our holler

My guess is it will not last long. Possibility is vaccin or something will be available within one year. Or if almost all people infected within one year no one will care it anymore. I am (we are) ready for it too. I am mostly worried for law and order situation at peak time of the virus. Also worried for health personnels, people may attack them too.

Some tests are shoing that the failed Ebola vacine was able to help some victims, sounds like they are doing further tests to see if they can repeat it.

So you are saying "science" over the National Enquirer's "Miracle Pill" and "Kitchen Remedies"... I guess... seems science is still good for something.

I'll be greeting the end of the world by getting out in nature.

(This UltraScenery image was also posted over in the UltraScenery commercial thread, but fits here too well to not post it as I prepare to be isolated at home all next week (work is taking these precautions - I'm not ill or showing ANY symptoms.))

Sainsburys supermarkets in the UK are now restricting customers to 3 of any food item, and 2 of any toiletries item. Evidently, if people won't behave reasonably, they have to be forced into it.

And my cats are volubly telling me that they need more than 3 boxes of food as there are 2 of them  and their human only shops once a fortnight online

Our three cats get through 160 pouches every 2 weeks. That's 4 boxes of 40. One of our cats can eat up to 15 off 100gram pouches in a day. He never puts weight on either... He's so busy, busy, busy. OK, he's a Maine Coon, is 3ft7" from nose to tip of tail and weighs about 14lb.

My cat is a rescue and is either an average sized Maine Coon or part Main Coon. I order food from Chewy.com because the prices are good and hopefully they are still delivering.

I got an email from my vet. They are now basically doing drive through for vet care. You drive there, call when you're outside and they come get your pet. They are also now accepting texts so you can even send photos or videos of your pet's issues. I hope that's something they stick with even after this virus!

Don't forget the toilet paper, if you can find any.

What's toilet paper? Is that something you read while on the toilet?

One guy who runs an Arcade  in the UK has emptied out one of his grabber machines and filled it full of toilet rolls.  So people can come and try to win a toilet roll.
    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-england-humber-51819781/bridlington-arcade-owner-fills-grabber-machine-with-loo-roll

Okay, that story wasy funny. Good to see people providing a much-needed laugh during all this hysteria.

On personal good news, I found a roll of toilet paper under my bed.  Well, now it is on top of my bed.  Soon it will be in the bathroom.  Probably the next time I need to use it.  Ooops TMI!

um?  have I installed Bryce and if not, where is the Bryce installer, assuming I downloaded it already.

edit: I found Bryce but now to find the Bryce Cereal or whatever it needs.

Funny day today. at work we ordered an extra shipment of toilet paper and bottled water for employees to purchase if needed along with our normal shipment. When I got off I picked some up (2 24 packs) along with a few other things before heading home. Needless to say, the shipment we got for the shelves was selling fast and by the time I got off it was empty, So as I cruised around the store with it in my buggy EVERYONE was asking where I got it. As I was waiting in line to check out, the girl in front of me asked if there was anymore, I replied I didn't think so and she looked really sad as did her 2 young daughters (around 5 yrs old). I felt kinda bad so I gave them one of my 24 packs, amazing how toilet paper seemed to make their day. Then as I am going to my car a guy pulls up beside me in a high end BMW and asked if they had more toilet paper inside in which I replied again I don't think so. Then he offers me $100 for the 24 pack I had. I was like "seriously?".

Needless to say I didn't come home with any toliet paper today, LOL

Something that was relayed to me today . People that still need basic supplies might try looking in places like walgreens and rite aid  other drug stores. I was told by one of our preepper friends this afternoon  that they have bread and milk and other simple food items  they were in a walgreens and they were full stocked with the those basic items tha its why I am writing this to advise people should check those stores as well. in these times try to think outside the box.  you may pay more but chances are those drug stores have not been cleaned out because people are avoiding them for fear of being around sick people getting their prescriptions.. Just some friendly advice that was relayed to me today through the our network.

Well in the new world of no hand shaking as a greeting I found a couple of variations

Hands together with a polite head nod....

Hand over your heart again with a polite head nod ......

My personal favorite "Live long and Prosper"

and finally the full body shake ...... pick any one you like and share it not the Virus

Someone told me the Dollar Store in their area had toilet paper. I can't confirm, as I haven't been to any near me, but it might be worth a look.

I was blessed to have a family member who anticipated shortages gift me a 32 pack of toilet paper about a week before it all disappeared from the stores, so I'm set for a while. The same family member went to our local grocery store today and said that everything was calm and that the clerks were working on restocking products. He was able to purchase what he needed except there was no toilet paper or hand sanitizer, but he had that at home already.

Mine are actually quite happy to live on the dry stuff I buy  (we went through half a dozen different brands before they found one they really liked) and just have one of the small 50gm pouches morning and evening. Plus Dreamies of course,  and human food scrounge,  especially if it ham or bacon or chicken   and ooh  is that a king prawn you have there

    they are indoor cats.

I would love to have a coony cat,  but don't think these two little ladies would approve somehow.

Give our cats too many cruchy bits & one of them is sick. Usually on our bed. And we usually don't notice until it has largely soaked in. Urrgh.

We got our Maine Coon as a kitten, and it's still hard to see him as the size cat he really is, we still just see an oversized kitten instead. We had a Maine Coon who was rather bigger but he died just before he was 3, and he was a magnificent creature. If you're interested I wrote a little obituary for him here: http://www.chestnutpens.co.uk/misc/gryff.html

...love the photo of him by the fireplace,. he did look very regal.  We had a Maine Coon when I was young. They are just so lovely and loving  He was more of a tabby/tortoiseshell mix in colour.  You are correct about the thunderous purr. and he was also a talker. We had him for 8 years before he had to be put down after he got in a serious fight from which the wounds just wouldn't heal.  Felt I lost one of my best friends.  I remember him trying to follow me onto the school bus in the morning.and he would often do the "nom nom" when eating.

Honestly, a two week fast wouldn't hurt me a bit.  I might come out of it the proper weight, Got two weeks worth of vitanins and water.

...that  would be bad for me as I need a regular diet that includes highly concentrated protein or I become very very listless (blood disorder). I still had the metabolism of a teenager until my mid 50s.

....sadly everyone else in the city. centre are thinking the same thing.  Shelves everywhere are pretty much empty of paper goods (TP and Towels) . Today I went to the Safeway (new weekly sales begin every Wednesday) to get some super lean ground beef for my past sauce that i saw was on sale for 2.99$/#. When I got there the entire fresh butcher counter was empty and only a few very expensive pre-packed quantities were in the cooler.  Nixed that as not going to pay 8$ - 9$/#.  Also. apparently there as a run on red potatoes for some reason (was looking to get some to have with the fish I prepare every Friday).  Don't really want to get on one of those "rolling Petri dishes" that is a city bus to try and find what I need.

  • One person made a mistake in their order, ordering 48 boxes of TP instead of 48 rolls ...

Around here (Baton Rouge) some stores are reserving the first hour they are open (after restocking what they could overnight) for seniour citizens and the handicapped.  The idea seems to be catching on, and I heard even some of the Wal-Marts will be setting this up.  This is an enlightened idea that I hope spreads everywhere.  I have been too proud to take advantage of this so far, but if I run out of TP....

I am wondering if there is a bigger brain dead virus going around and Covid19 exists only to distract us from noticing.

Mind you I think the braindead one has had a long incubation period and has already reached pandemic proportions, we are just noticing more or the symptoms.

Your Maine Coon sounds so familiar, and such a sad end. They are gorgeous cats, and since we've had one, I don't think I could go back to a 'normal' cat. MC's are so gentle, friendly and interested in what you're doing, even if they are not lap usually lap cats. The 'Interested in what you're doing' can be a little bit of a problem sometimes. Every now & again I need to do welding, and have to ensure all cats are in the house before I start for risk of them getting 'Arc eye'. Can't explain to cats about the dangers of molten steel & arcs brighter than the sun, and if they decided to come & 'help' me it'd be awful.
