The same old Daz Originals that have been picked through over and over.

This.  The selection is so pathetic at this point that my options for this go-around are literally a handful of pose sets for the G3/G8 generations, while what's left of the previous generation stuff is hardly attractive given that it's regularly being trotted out at 80-90% off.  l actually really like Valentino, but the DAZ Original part of the promotion has become essentially worthless.

wish they woulda thrown the hd in the pro bundle.  think they did that a few times.

Yes, but they got complaints from people who didn't want the HD in the bundle, so they stopped doing it.

    huh?

This is exactly why I wish pro bundles were a la carte. I would gladly sacrifice poses, and a lot of characters or hairs, for things like texture expansions, HD add-on or additional outfits/hairs not included in the bundles. If pro bundles were more of a slate of items from which you could select a certain quantity or dollar amount, I think people would be more satisfied.

Sorry, it was meant sarcastic. There were vocal complaints about the inclusion of the HD in the threads for bundles that included the HD, but I doubt that they were the reason for no longer including them. There's some discussion here: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/4345936/#Comment_4345936

Personally, I'd prefer having the HD over having some pose packs, but that's just me.

Man I LOVE the quality of stuff in this bundle.... I don't get a lot of guys stuff but DANG, pirates..... the leather outfits and such perfect for medieval kitbashing... all these ruggedly handsome (and perilous!) men ready to steal hearts and sail away....

SUPER fantastic job on the releases, Daz team! definitely lots of treasure this round! :D I usually try to dissuade myself from buying by looking at the stuff I don't need...but I feel the irrepressable need to have it all..... oops! :)

And some other people have absolutely zero interest in HD add-ons. To each their own.

Not interested in the HD add-ons but agree on the poses - those have been repetitive for years. I'm the opposite of you, I want characters and hairs, not more texture expansions. There's so many textures/shaders available you can do your own on the clothing (and learn who does adequate material zones.)

The concept of pick and choose for bundles has been mentioned several times previously, but Pro Bundles aren't ever tweaked that way. Daz should try it, because it's an excellent concept. Unless hundreds of people submit it to the powers-that-be, sadly I think it's likely that suggestion won't go anywhere.

Love this bundle. So good that the add on characters appear to be of different ethnicities

yes, and i still cant figure out why anyone would not want it, other than maybe the cost overall going up, but at that time, it wasn't. Most of the bundles ended up cheaper than what we're paying now.

it seems common sense to allow us to pick the 10 items we want from the overall offer. Why not? Would we want it if the price was the same no matter which way it went?

They tried with the dog, and then people complained because there was no actual pro bundle.

I don't have all Pro Bundles but like the last few times my "Select Genesis 8 items" list is empty, as I have all of those. So only the half offer works for me. I'll wait for a better deal.

  • KharmaKharma Posts: 3,214

I really like the Pro Bundle,  and add ons for Valentino but the offer is a little lacking.  I already own everything from the Gen 8 catagory offering up to 80% off and all the Daz Originals left to choose from have been the same for every past offer so already well picked over unfortunately.  I passed on the last 2 Gen8 probundles and will probably pass on this one too until they come up in later sales with better discounts. I already own all G8 probundles until these last 3 so definitely can wait for a while as I have no shortage of characters to play with!

It’s not that I don’t want hairs, just that the ones included in pro bundles often aren’t the greatest quality, and there are frequently hair and even outfits released as part of a pro bundle sale that are better quality than the products included in the actual bundle.

As far as texturing, I know I can do it myself, and I have quite a few shaders, but I generally prefer the convenience of texture presets when they’re even close to what I want, and I quite like a lot of what some PAs do with texture expansions. Just like some people love playing with textures and shaders but rely on pre-made poses, I do all my own posing, but will generally only spend any significant time fiddling with surfaces if I have a really specific idea of how I want something to look.

Characters...I’m not opposed to them per se, but I find a lot of them redundant and/or uninteresting. There are some PAs who kind of make the same character over and over again, and I don’t see a need to own more than one or two, but they keep showing up in pro bundles. I mostly only buy characters if I find them remarkable in some way, like if they have a really interesting and/or detailed skin, or an unusual look. Buying a base figure and getting two characters that are tiny variations on that figure’s look isn’t appealing to me.

For those scouring the DO free products, Retro Vignette has a fluorescent light wall that can be used for a quick render backdrop.

Best male bundle since Ollie 8 and the first I'm considering buying since Ollie.

Nice character and I will probably pick him up separately at some point but in terms of the deal today...as others have said...I have no DO left to pick through that I would want. I do like a couple of the outfits (Naval Uniform and Deckhand), but I still don't want to have to drop like $60 on the bundle just to get them...so I'll probably buy them separately as well. I would have been tempted on the bundle for those couple outfits, but this one really wants me to blackball the whole thing...this...this should be inexcusable -

There is no way that outfit is passable for me...even though I do like the overall concept of it. The execution is...wow. Far too many new outfits coming out with this same sort of issue. Rigid metal pieces should not bend...especially when a character isn't even being put into an extreme pose. And just look at how the round belt holes are all distorted from that little bit of torso movement. NOPENOPENOPE.

One of the reasons I make my own clothes.

I'm fed up of dforce clothes without depth.

    https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-southern-seas-outfit-for-genesis-8-males

I'm using the item as an example, not as an example of poor quality, I haven't looked I just wanted one.

    I look at a product.

    Is worth the price?

Not the price I'm being asked to pay, but the full price, does it's quality live up to that price?

If yes, then I start asking myself other questions to determine if I'll buy.

If the answer is no, then I'm likely to consider free as too expensive.

The most common reason given for not wanting the HD morph included in the bundle is that they are a) hard to use on lower powered computers and b) next to useless unless you are doing extreme close ups so  some people prefer that the pro bundle have more usable stuff and leave specialty items as add one.

I make my own clothes now as well...Marvelous Designer and Zbrush are a match made in heaven for me (IMO), but I was looking at the promo for Romeo HD and was like: "Dang, just look at those clothes!". Thankfully Redzstudio put links to what was used in the promo below and I realised I owned all of them and they were all Genesis 3 male clothing..or most of it, rather. Reminds me to kitbash a little more and use all those textures I have sitting in my content directory.

makes sense that way. I do mostly close stuff, but noticed that the newer HD items have far less detail in the face, and seem to concentrate on the body. Imo, this should be part of the character anyway.

Also, just gonna drop this here for my fellow LucasArts nerds...

Man, what a brilliant and hilariously well written game that was. The minute Wally started talking about learning to be a pirate with the Parrot Of The Month club, I was hooked, and how can you go wrong when the villain is a zombie-ghost pirate named LeChuck?

LucasArts, man. I never got around to playing any of the Monkey Island games, but even having not played the game in 20 years or more, I could probably get through Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis from memory.

At this point, I think the big question is just how many more Core figures/ProBundles going to make for G8?  Valentino is the 68th G8 core so far, which means that there have been more G8 base figures than for all of the previous Genesis products combined.

  • L'AdairL'Adair Posts: 9,479

For me, the decision to purchase a Pro bundle rarely includes what else is on offer. I'll take free bundles and $X of free DOs, but my primary concerns are 1) how much do I have to pay for the bundle and addons, and 2) would it cost me more to buy the items I really want a la cart. I like getting an extra discount, too, but that plays into both concerns. That's assuming, of course, I have the funds when a new figure is released. And I tend to favor male figures over female, as my runtime has more than enough ladies for any scene I might want to render.

The Valentino bundle is the most exciting bundle, to me, since Dain 8. I learned my lesson with the Dain bundle though, so I checked all the products with the Valentino bundle and made sure they were created by named PAs! And I like almost all the addon characters, in the bundle or not. (My cart has the bundle, the HD Addon, and three characters! Haven't decided on the freebies yet…)

I don't have a need for pirates like many of you, but I actually like that this is a themed bundle. I almost never buy bundles because I don't want to pay for items I will never use in order to get a few that I might. I think Elios and Rune 7 were the only Pro bundles I've ever bought because almost all of the content in them was fantasy-based. It would be great if each new figure release could either allow us to build our own bundles or at least offer sci-fi, fantasy, and everyday bundles, but that would require a ton of products to all hit on its release day.

    Anyway, hope he's successful!

I'm guessing maybe 3 more, and hopefully one of those is Cat  8, we can hope. Victoria's Bday is coming in June. We might be seeing Genesis 9 very soon. We are already at 3 years for Gen 8 cycle. Which I think is one of the longest between Generations.

Generation 4, (Victoria 4/4.2 and Michael 4,) was in the seven year range, based on the info in the readmes. I'm sure someone who was around back then can be more exact. Three years would definitely be the longest of any Genesis generations. Like many others, I don't want to see G9 until there are some definitive changes to the tech, like soft body physics. A new generation for the sake of releasing a new generation does not appeal to me. Or my wallet.

I like this bundle because I've been wanting some 1700s - early 1800s styled outfits for the guys. (I want rich, princely outfits from this era too but that's another topic.) Also, Valentino looks great! Feel like I might wait a while before getting it though.

I think V4.2 came out in December of 2006, that is when I bought her around her release. It's been so many years, I can't recall when 4.0 was released.

I'm sure Daz has been working on Gen 9 the last 3+ years.   Hopefully some of your ideas will be part of it.
