I had tecnical issues yesterday, so as much as I tried to render this simple image, it rendered it without the character. Finally reinstalled studio and the problem went away. Too bad I didn't think to do that sooner.

This is the tan version. I've decided there are 2 things I don't like about the set. One is the neck piece. I may be able to leave it off but it lacks detail and is lumpy. In the tan verison there is no matching amber color, so it stands out.  I also haven't done a render of the helmet I like. It seems rather small and close-fitting. The night vision goggles don't look convincing to me... Maybe... Too bright. I will have to see if I can retexture them.

Oh, although Boyd has stubble, you can at least see his chin- He has a major cleft there! I think its cute, but Boyd covers it up with his goatee for some reason- when he gets away with it.

Your lighting is always so good. I am still learning lighting. I keep studying techniques.

According to tech support who just closed the ticket I just. Submitted there will be no update to the texture usability of this product as placing everything in a single folder is the decision of the pa.

They didn’t address the incorrect pictures used for this product or the lack of usability. I was told to contact the pas by instant message to get an update....   if i wanted things separated.

I thought we were discouraged from doing that and all support issues should go through the store...

Do you even know how to contact the PA by instant message? Many don't even have a forum account.

And what does DAZ do for the 50% cut that they take from the PA besides host the product and conduct the financial transaction? I thought there was lots of packaging, testing, and also teaching of PAs on how to create their product in a way that makes it consistant and easy to use for customers.

I admit this experience was frustrating. I thought there were standards on how products should be made and packages. Also it is very unstandard  to make incomplete texture set and have them thrown all in one folder. It may be true all the packaged details are included. But it is misleading because users will think they are getting complete sets to make different colored armor.

I was provided these instructions on how to contact the pas

You can private message the PA in the forum and ask for these to be updated:

To do this, log into your account, and go to the Forums. Under the blue bar, click the gear on the right and go to your message box (inbox). Choose new message to post a message, and designate the PA name as the recipient (see attached).

there was also JPEG attached explaining how to Im

The PA has a thread about the product in the Commercial PA forum here. You could make a public post asking them about their thinking/decision to package the texture expansion the way they did. or you can at least click on their profile to PM them.

  • Serene NightSerene Night Posts: 17,651

I did do this. I just think they need to be consistant in how customers get support. I was always told not to contact Pa's directly.

  • Phoenix1966Phoenix1966 Posts: 1,682

I understand. And part of brokering with Daz is supposed to ensure that customers contact Daz with concerns and not the PAs directly. Support shouldn't have told you to reach out to the vendor for an update.

this is what I was told

    Hi Serene,

I took a look at the product page for this and saw that the textures that are supposed to be there are. There are no materials missing. The thumbnail images, naming, and materials all being placed in one folder are decisions made by the PA.

You can private message the PA in the forum and ask for these to be updated:

To do this, log into your account, and go to the Forums. Under the blue bar, click the gear on the right and go to your message box (inbox). Choose new message to post a message, and designate the PA name as the recipient (see attached).

I've never liked the structure of reporting products here, and then waiting, usually a very long time to be fixed-if ever. I felt like half the time I'd submit a ticket for a bug, only to have it never fixed... it’s  stonewalling. When I do reach support I spend a fair chunk of time explaining the issue. It seems... time consuming.

However, this model of being forced to ask Pa's for fixes and improvements is worse.

These problems are the result of lack of standards and guidelines...i think the store needs to set some standards on how some products should behave, look, feel and be packaged. Its not unreasonable expectations that people conform to packaging items the way that makes sense especiallly in a brockerage. The products have been becoming increasingly sloppy with the installers, and this shows a lack of attention to detail.

It is reasonable to expect products to have some standards, and reasonable to expect the products a person buys to conform to those standards. It isn't reasonable to expect customers to ask for things to be standardized in a usable way after they are marketed and sold. That should've already been reviewed and tested before being packaged and uploaded for sale.

If we keep buying and not returning unsatisfactory products, we are part of the problem, I guess.

  • Serene NightSerene Night Posts: 17,651

Most people may not discover an issue until after the 30 day window is passed.

I do return plenty of unsatisfactory products but I do also keep some because I want them and there is the rub.

  • nonesuch00nonesuch00 Posts: 18,142

So if 500 people bought this product & 5 complain about it, then is DAZ going to send all 5 to the vendor? DAZ should really establish a standard for publishing different types of products to their store and if they did they could have SW automate the task of testing most of it. If GooglePlay was dorking around with manually verifying the location of dozens, even hundreds of files uploaded to GooglePlay hardly anything would ever get published. Although if the process was completely automated, you'd probably get a lot of lower quality products that 'technically conform' because that would mean more product to sell.

I agree that a lack of standards it the big ugly baby in the room. Standards would catch the majority of issues I have with DAZ products.

Okay, I was wrong. Fat Bike looks equally cool if not more cool than City Bike. I apologize for doubting! I had to adjust the hand pose a bit to account for the change to the bike's stabilizing bar, but here you go!

And since I was going to correct one thing, I decided Boyd should have his own cup of coffee and yes it’s bigger than Owen’s.... So I used one of Jepe's overlays and gave him a little tractor beam. This proved interesting, because the tractor beam logistically needed to engulf the whole cup  or he would just be carrying it by the lid! Disaster.  He probably would be better off with a thermos of some sort. But oh well. This demonstrates how Boyd manages to get by without hands in this particular bot body. He can do just about everything with his small directional beams.

OK WOW!!! That really turned out awesome! Sorry for the late reply, been working on a RL project. That looks a lot better and more his size. Really love the seperate cup as well. yes

I'm sorry you're having so many issues with the newest product, Serene.  I'm surprised-usually issues like that are taken care of.  I will say this, if anyone finds anything off with Anything I've produced, I have no problem whatsoever with someone contacting me directly.  This helps me get things resolved and send updates to Daz to have it distributed to everyone else that may not even have been aware of the issue.  I take great pride in my work ethic-if something is broken, I will fix it, no complaints.

I thought it would be funny. I'm sure Owen would share his, but Boyd definitely needs his own!

Hee Hee! After his last mission, Owen has trouble because of nightmares. He sleeps elsewhere for a while. Boyd lets him, and then eventually decides to join him. Boyd makes a nice bed here!

Aww. Thanks. I appreciate it when vendors step up and provide excellent support.

I do feel bad about complaining. But I do like this product. If I didn't I would simply send it back.

Thanks for making all the great characters.... You do amazing work, and it shows.

this looks great! We’ve needed actual winter clothing for sometime. The textures work for both male and female characters. I like one of the female textures but not enough to pick the female set up without a bundle offer.

Look at how many huge texture files that product has. I wonder if I would even be able to fit it in my graphics card to render it. I had to return the Cabs and Cops because it had so many high res texture files for a very low res old model. I'll be interested to hear how the winter clothes work in a fully populated scene. Please report back.

The old saying is "He ain't heavy, he's my brother".  Wikipedia has a fair bit to say about it.  It was probably best known when Father Flanagan adopted it as the motto for Boys Town (made famous in the Mickey Rooney movie).  Here's the statue from Boys Town.

Awww.. never heard of this before but super sweet...it is probably true though that Owen is not heavy for Boyd to carry. His body is a bio engineered soldiers body and can likely several Owen’s easily... even though Owen is probably no lightweight at 6.1”and buff from working out..   Boyd also has some degree of physical detachment from his body which allows his to push himself in ways not typical for a body born brain...

I picked it up. It was a good deal with a gift card and also got divas skin set. I have bad luck with skin shading products and I’m not sure Owen needs to become paler but we shall see.

Boyd has Aiko's skin shader applied and Owen has Victoria 8's skin shader.

I initially applied just the base shader to both, but Boyd ended up Jaundiced and Owen's was not an improvement.

  • barbultbarbult Posts: 24,259

Not much visible difference in the guys' skin. Boyd is a little less shiny. Owen is less yellow and less pale. I guess I like the Altern8 version a little bit better, but not enough to say there is much difference.
