Underbelly renders nicely. Love his strand based hair and his kind of Adolf(?) hairstyle. His chest hair has patches of yellow which I felt was strange. His arms are big and powerful, and look better without tats. His legs lack detail and seem under developed. I had to crush a lot of blacks to get rid of some of the darkness surrounding his face. I replaced the eye texture, since the shadows were too dark there, and even shining a bright light, I had some trouble getting details.
The only issue I run into with him, was his morph does odd things to pants sometimes underwear. I know its his morph, since when I dial it out the distortion goes away. Perhaps a result of his different shape.
As far as I can tell there are no color options for Underbelly's scalp hair and beard, although weirdly, he has arm, and chest hair color options.
..same here.
...it's not so much that the previous generation will not work, it's that support for it tends to suddenly end. Backwards compatibility for a new generation isn't always dependable..
...now that's an animation I'd love to see, maybe with Edie and Mabel twirling the rope.
...hmm, give him some lower jaw tusks, big horns on his head, as well as pointed ears increase his size a bit and he'd make a pretty decent looking Troll for the Shadowrun cyberpunk universe.
May have to think about getting him after all.
Somehow he doesn't strike me as the reading type...
This underbelly character looks weird, believeble weird. So he is outside the norm, with his arms, but that is what makes a character an individual.
I don't need a mobster right now, but he looks well done to me. I think, there is a lot of to much cherry picking going on about him.
Now that's an unfair generalization! I feel he does LOTS of reading...

... about anatomy... pressure points... Sun Tzu... people's faces as they get close to their breaking point... you know, intellectual stuff!
You may well be right! (and I certainly did not mean to cause offence to Mr. Underbelly!)
Somewhat unshockingly, if you light him like the Artstation renders he does look quite like the artstation renders. (tbf I also tweaked the materials a bit)
Also folks complaining about how thick his beard looks, I agree it does look pretty awful in the promos. But there is the worlds easiest fix. In the materials settings if you just halve the root and tip line widths and the beard will magically look 99% better.
Given the mobster theme, my guess would be the influence is Peaky Blinders
aaaand a v quick render with less extra lighting to show off what the beard actually looks like if you fix the line width size
look at your man
look at me.
this is what your man's hair could look like if you fix the line width size
He looks good exporting in Cycles in Blender except I had his goatee on and it won't render for some reason. It shows in the viewport that it's there, but it won't render. Same with his eyebrows. I've got to play around a little more but he does look awesome.
Much improvement...it no longer looks like some sort of brown moss, lol.
Your renders have made me plan on buying him...when he shows up on Fast Grab or something. I'm still not down for the idea of needing to use another character's skin because his tattoos are unfinished, so paying the premium he's at right now isn't worth it to me.
And just for fun, I wanted to see what his skin would look like on someone else and it works perfectly to age a character! This is Wufei from Mousso which I'm adding a screenshot of his main product image here to show.
Same test as before but less close up.
Same stuff, 50% Underbelly, 50% Maxx, The Brute 8 HD add-on. Lowered the opacity of the DForce body hair to make it more subtle. We have lots of fitness cute guys, so I like how different he is. Probably will be mixing him with everything I have XD.
He looks great!
Wow! all that from *just* the Skin?!?! O.o
... apply it to Floyd and get a mummy!
Unfortunately, no matter how close you get with the skin and hair, the damn shirt is a dead give-away. It just shouts polygons rather than cloth - at least for me.
Clothing is currently my white whale. TBF I didnt actually spend all that much time on the clothes, I could definitely improve them, but its definitely the area I need to do a deep dive on next
Yeah, same for me. The clothes always let me down. I spend hours on combinations of dForce and morphs trying to make them look natural but that goal eludes me still. You might have to put your Blender skills to work?
By the way, I have the slip in your signature ... one of the better pre-dForce items of clothing. I tried to add dForce to it but is exploded no matter what I did. Maybe all the stringy bits.
Eh. Flaws and all, I still like the guy.
He looks so nice! And I love his star speckled thong! =-)
Following your advice, I'm much happier with how the hair/beard/goatee look. I created a clean version for his arms/hands. I might try to fix the tats next.
How do you fix the line width size?
Could you please elaborate more about your fix.
I liken this character to many games put out by Bethesda, the makers of the Elder Scrolls series as well as Fallout...they release an unfinished product at a premium, and then expect the modding community to finish it, lol.
Maybe Daz was under a tight deadline due to this being the first time they'd ever converted a character and perhaps the upcoming release of Victoria 9. So, they had to just get him out.
Thanks, @j_cade for sussing the beard. I read in Daz's blog that the tattoos are layered images. Does that mean they are removable?
@xyer0 There is only one set of textures for the arms and they have tattoos. I created a new set of textures for his arms without the tats (and then had to also replace the hands, because without the tats, they are extremely red and look scalded and strange).
I went slightly more in depth in the comment before I posted the picture, but just not in the image demonstrating it which was silly.
It's right in the material settings panel. There are two properties called "line start width" and "line end width" (easiest way to find them is to type "line" in the search at the top 9f the materials tab). They control the thickness of the stands. The hair and beard have the start width set at .2 if you turn it down to .1 and turn the end width down to .05 or .06 the strands will be twice as thin and not look so chunky
there are also some other settings in there that can be nice to expiriment with, If you've fiddled with the strand editor you might notice all the names match up with the settings there. There's one called something like random length that does exactly what it sounds like and can make things look more uneven for instance
Thanks a lot for the explanation, j cade.
Underbelly with Valentino 8 skin - to get rid of the tattoos
Thanks, @Phoenix1966, for the explanation. If I may ask, do you have one more man for us on the backburner before Genesis 8 goes bye-bye?
