Hasn't anyone else notice that the Gangster Bundle is all old stuff? I already own 3 of the items. And if you go to the shop main page 6 items from the top two rows came out in December-February.
I like him as a sort of realistic toon, say Capt Haddock or some sort of character different than typical, whether hero or villiian. As usual all things on the wishlist and only ever come off when the are on sale for a price I like.
I like the figure. he's got the grand theft auto schtick down.
The absence of gens is strange, but fixable. But, kind of incongrous with the otherwise mature character concept. He's seen smoking, drinking, and executing people but... No... Gens?
Alrighty then.
no button on vest. That vest is never going to close anyway. I see a lot of clothes designed that way here. open but absolutely no way to physically close the item unless fitting on super emaciated man or woman.
but glaring that the buttons are not there wehen there are buttonholes. Maybe the buttons are on the inside? The vest is reversible?
looks really good in these renders
Not sure what people are so upset/underwhelmed about:
there were already more bundles this month that usual and everyone was expecting another - here it is
the bundle is broken into 2 parts (two bundles) so you don't have to get ALL if you only want the character and supporting products - helps on the cost
lots of folks were wanting another guy - and it's guy
... and for me, at least he is not a pretty boy! Yeah, his proportions are 'non-ideal'; but I have seen *plenty* of people in real life with similar. It is a good character, folks.
and arm hair!!! Can we get some back hair next??!?! (and no, I am not being sarcastic - I know people with it) ... oh, and leg hair! My Scot ancestory gave me more leg hair than chest hair, so it would be nice! (and don't hate - a few thousand years wearing a kilt in an exteme Northern climate and YOUR ancestors would adapt too!)
I get that gens are important for some folks, but unless you're planning on doing nekked art, it's really not all that important to me. I stopped bothering with them entirely because you never see them in my art and it's too much fiddling to make the partses behave in a pair of pants, lol.
with the purple stuff its $42 total for both bundels in my cart.
underbelly $25
gangster - $17
He's way too expensive. Saiyaness' most recent character is miles and above better and more complete and was a fraction of that.
I prefer figures to be intact if they are adult. While I don't do a lot of naked art, the absence of gens, means I have to do the work, when I'd rather do other things.
In the case of fitting them inside the pants or underwear.... Once you know how to odo it.... It isn't that difficult. It just requires a minute or two to setup.
Difficult to get excited about a "Lummox 8" character bundled with stuff that has been available for months. I guess it gave the marketing department something to do.
At this point, it seems all the characters Daz pumps out are either niche products (female pirate bundle, urban tough/oaf, etc.) or body shapes that had actually been around for some time. It's becoming increasingly apparent that we are very late in the Genesis 8 product cycle. If not, we have months (at least) of elderly centaurs, mermaids of varying ethnicities, Awkward Teen 8 (Now with acne dials!), and clothing with dForce tassels, fringe, trains, and wizard's sleeves.
Yeah, Underbelly is underwhelming.
he popped it
I know the feeling
According to the readmes, the Mobster room and Retro Interrogation room are new, with an original release date of 5/27/2020. And if you want some of the stuff in it and don't have it, the price is decent.
I just realized that Underbelly is a single morph character, according to the product page, with no division between head and body morph. I don't think any other Daz Original character has done that before. I understand it -- splitting a morph that detailed would be something of a pain -- but it's definitely odd.
Minute or two saved for me not adding something that isn't even in the scene...and it saves on render resources. You never know when that little bit will save you from dumping to CPU, lol. I get the whole adult thing...I used to make sure all the men I rendered were...um...intact...I just don't bother with it anymore because it became more of a pain than anything for me. I can't really say I've ever seen a fully-clothed man walking around in the grocery store with vacuum-sealed manbits in his pants, so leaving them off my render boys is fine with me, haha. I get it, though. Just for me, lack of partses wouldn't really be much of a factor on my buying decision.
He looks a lot like some your creations Hellboy/Sotto are you the mysterious secret creator?
He is HD. The normal maps also include more detail, but I actually lowered them to 0.25 for the closeup. Here is a mesh only viewport screen.
No, just tattoos on.
Since nobody else seems to be saying it: Underbelly is an absolutely godawful name for a character.
I wish! But no, I just knew about him today and bought the bundle right away because I'm that intense XD
If you mean this render in particular, it's just because it's half mixed with Maxx... (and because I use that necklace about every single time :P)
He is a great character, but the first thing I noticed was that he must shave his arms ... above where the shirt sleeves meet his forearm
It sort of makes sense, because you don't want hair poking through the sleeves. Since the tattoos apparently do the same thing, it sounds as if he was meant to only wear the clothes in the bundle. It would have been nice if he had shirt/no-shirt arm hair options.
Still, a really impressive character. Unfortunately he's not really my style, and no discounts for me, so not worth getting him just because he's a great character .... that I might never use.
What you see in the image is just the base mesh at 4 Res. He is HD on itself. Not rendered, just preview. Normal map seems to add extra detail info. For face closeups I lower the Normal to 0.25 because I don't want THAT much detail so close.
Gotta say that dForce hair looks awful anyways. The hair on his arms and chest (and face) doesn't look like hair to me. Maybe moss? I dunno, lol. For body hair I stick with a G2M set that doesn't exist anymore...but it's still the best body hair I've seen hands down and auto-fits with G3M and G8M just fine.
overly Hairy lower arms and fingers, but hairless upper arms, legs and back and he's a unick!
pass
I don't know if it's been posted or not already, this seems to be the creator.
I like the model. He has a lot of character.
I can work around the lack of Anatomical materials (Geoshell overlays, non-daz gens, etc). I can work around the body hairs because I've got other hairs. All that stuff is kind of secondary, IMO.
He's a big boi, and it's a good shape.
I just prefer my pretty girls :-D
The SBH hair that comes with Jepe's Roderick is pretty good but as with all SBH you really have to work at getting the nuances of colors right if you want anything other than a dark haired brunette.
The promotional images show where the tattoos end, and they end abruptly. It seems the character is designed solely for the outfit in the package. Hence the arm hair only on the forearm as well.
We've already had Herschel Hoffmeyer's wyvern and Howie Farkes's Ultrascenery so my mind well and truly boggles at what it could be.
Personally, I really, really, really, really hope it's not Vicky 9.
Cheers,
Alex.
