I'm sorry, I'm trying to follow, but I'm not as advanced as many of you.

I only have one question: Does this make it possible to sculpt in high subD on a rigged character in Blender while keeping the rigging intact?

If so, I'll take the next few days off work and devote myself to learning Blender ASAP!

Thanks, but I've restarted Studio twice after installing the bridge and also uninstalled/reinstalled the bridge too. Do you happen to know exactly where the bridge files are installed, maybe I can just manually put them where they need to be. Thanks in advance.

I had also issues with installing the bridge.

All the files are outside of the normal install folders, but there is a run_once script in C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Roaming\DAZ 3D\Studio4\RunOnce which copies the files to the right place as soon DAZ is started. After that that install script is deleted.

I had to uninstall and reinstall the bridge to get the run once script into the right dir.

I also deleted all profiles of instances, before I reinstalled it. Maybe that's the trick?

    First test:

    Sub 2 and cloth simulation.

Took forever import it into Blender (maybe because of the high sub-d?)

dForce settings are not converted to blender cloth simulations :/

I noticed that the bridges show as being $29.95 in their history. Does this mean they will have a price in the future if we do not take advantage of the free offer?

Strand-based hair is not a "regular" rigged model, it's generated by a DS plugin. I wouldn't expect it to work via a bridge.

    nevermind

the fur that worked for me was dforce but likely not strandbased

    just fibermesh

it exports to iClone too blush

So two hiccups I'm finding with this right now is when I have one character loaded into Blender and I try to import a second one, it erases the one already there to add the new one. So that means if we want to have multiple characters we have to save the blender file for each character and then append the collection that it's in in a seperate scene.

The other hiccup is a lot of materials I'm seeing aren't transferring over. Like the Renae Hair from Crocodile Liu I had black and it transfered in as blond. The clothes she was wearing was also black and came in white. I had to go into the shading tab and play around with the nodes and found the hair was being affected by an alpha node and subsurface, but the clothes I had to go into the files and reattach them. Not the end of the world, but I figure I'd put this here in case anyone tries and is running into these issues. The skin materials and the rig itself is worth these little nuisances though.

Is why I grabbed all of them while they are part of the promotion..smiley

Thank you for posting this - I had the same problem - installed, uninstalled, installed again, restart etc to no avail, but this solved the issue.

The Notes section on the page for Daz to 3ds Max Bridge requires some TLC. It is the information for the Maya bridge.

    1. Even if it requires a little readme as to where you want what installed, please make the Blender Bridge [at least] available for manual download. Thank you.

    ....................

And guess what snoopy found today :-)  -- Available ONLY by Manual Download in our Product Libraries :-)

    Hey snoopy! :)

    good eye!

How did you find those? Is there a clever search string you've used in the product manager?

    thanks in advance,

    --ms

ETA: The store has a "browse all items" for these export-enabled items right now, but I'm still curious if there's a search trick for this - I could see using it for templates that the DIM doesn't acknowledge. tnx.

I searched my computer and eventually found the zip file for the Blender addon. Takes forever for the figure to load into blender and then makes blender randomly go unresponsive. So far, not super impressed. I realize it's probably a work in progress.

So, only figure import? No props?

  • ServantServant Posts: 760

Finally... but it only works with Genesis 3 and 8. Glad for those who can use it, though.

Interesting. Quite impressive bits of software.

Shame there is no manual install listed. I shall hope that this will change... Having an off-line machine means that manual install the is only sort I can use.

    Regards,

    Richard

I just finally got to that stage as well, then went to the blender site to find out how to install it.  Annoying when the Daz video on the plugin page makes it all look so seemless: install the plugin, export from Daz, import into Blender.  I think that a lot fo people who are new to either Daz Studio or Blender will definitely be put off by the lack of documentation for just getting this to work.

This Daz To Blender Bridge plugin is so very user unfriendly, and took me a tutorial to work out how to know I had it installed.. lol

I used this to install the Blender part of the importer: https://blender.stackexchange.com/questions/1688/installing-an-addon

To get the location, I went into Daz Install Manager, clicked the Installed Tab, then clicked the arrow to the right of "Uninstall" for the plugin, and selected Show Installed Files.

Cheers and thank you for the help as had no idea if it installed or not, gotten so very used to things just installing and showing up when Studio is started.. smiley But might have to install that other plugin posted in the Blender forum since this one is limited to what it will export..

    would solve my issues too

my other computer I cannot use it at all thanks to my odd locations and D|S 4.7 on it as well as the latest public build

I obviously want it in the latter but won't show there

I might need to look in the zip DIM archives there as on that PC I save my zips to an external

Will try it tomorrow. Accoring to the video, only Gensis 8 figures, hair and cloth is supportet but no props.

Hopefully in a future version we will get also support for props/environments. Please DAZ ;)

Super thanks for the link. I'll get to looking at how easy the Blender one is soon. I'm sort of trying to work through all the Marvelous Designer tutorials to see if I want to buy it before it goes suscription 1st though, darn it!

I have ordered all 4 of those new plugins and none of that 3D content showup up in my Product Library. When I click the link to the plugin I'm taken to the Product Library readme page which gives the option to click on the order number which takes me to a download page for all the products of that order, which does not include the 3D models you took screen shots of, or a link I could click on to take my to the original store page for the ordered product which also has not dowload links for the 3D products you shown.

Maybe you are a PA and so are given extra test products regular customers don't get?

Just curious, I installed the Blender bridge and nothing is showing up in my Scripts menu. Any suggestions for what might be going wrong?

I hate to be the turn it off and turn it back on person right now, but I turned on Daz about 30 minutes ago and it was gone from scripts as well. I went into dim and it was installed, but I uninstalled and installed again and it showed back up. Maybe that'll work for you too?

It only installed to Release not to Public Beta. Do you check that?

So after some initial playing with the bridge as someone who has also been having fun with the diffeo plugin

    • loading in and having an fk/ik setup is nice... really nice. As is the look of the face bone setup
    ...

Fyi, the Diffeomorphic addon can also convert to a complete IK/FK rig, either Rigify or MHX. Unforunately, the Rigify conversion has been borked for a while now, but I'm actually finding I prefer the no-frills approach of the MHX rig anyway.

It's Release DAZ Studio only, not DAZ Studio Public Beta.

And since that question is answered here is another bug for this DAZToBlender exporter:

You cannot nest the G8F/G8M or G3M/G3F into a group because the DAZToBlender plugin will claim there is no G8F/G8M availble: eg; I habitually create nested groups Actors -> Guys; Actors -> Gals;  Actors -> Animals and you see what I'm doing; just creating groups to quickly hide & unhide things and such work flow organization tasks: well that breaks the plugin until I unparent the actor from the group.
