I had the same issue and you can't fix it with DIM, go to your account at daz3d.com and under your product search for GoZ for DS 4+ , download it and install it again manually ( since the original is missing from your User/public/pixologic etc..) after instalation open Zbrush2021 and reinstall the path to DS , and it should works, all Zbrush versions use the same GoZ but new version of Zbrush like 2021 is separate instalation so not having the proper cache to find GoZ for DS
Yesterday Zbrush2021 was crashing each time I send models so I had to remve everything and reinstall GoZ again, you don't need to uninstall other versions of Zbrush , also close DS and Zbrush before installing manually the GoZ
check your user/public/pixologic folder if you have GoZ files there, if it is not there install it manually, if it is there, open Zbrush and under Preferences/GoZ force reinstall, or if you see Daz Studio in the list just click and update the path only to your DS you use for this action . I have to do it always when Zbrush is an separate upgrade and not just an update .
Well in this case you can do that , as I said adding the thickness to the visible parts is an great option but need to be extruded from simulation . One of a reason why dynamic clothing was never a huge success by the masses .Regular users don't want to go editing stuff , they just want fast click and render .
I agree that it's a huge PITA for users to deal with. Fortunately some PAs are including this as a feature in their garments. In this image by @Greybro in the Honni 8 thread, you can see how Arki turned the edges in her Missi Judge outfit. Progress is being made, and the bar is being raised. Which is just as well, since G8 will be with us for a long while yet, and there need to be good reasons for us to want to buy new stuff.
Thank you so much for your time and effort! Unfortunately, I've checked everything you've specified and followed the steps to teh letter, and I'm getting the same exact error message. I also get an error when clicking the ZBrush GOZ side, as well... All of the files are there, just as you have, and I've verified every single path, I just keep getting the error and I can't get past it. Is there anything else you can think of that I should check. It's unfortunate, this is so frustrating because I have some time off tomorrow and I really want to get it to work. THank you again for your time, I do appreciate it!
check the configuration files under User/public/pixologic, I think it is the first file, open with tex editor, and see the path to DS , then if the path is ok, go to Zbrush, load some obj and try to send it to DS, if DS open and you can import the obj then it means the software's got linked . after that click the GOZ in DS and it should go back to Zbrush , I had the same message as you did yesterday , if nothing above working just download the GOZ from your account as I mentioned before and re-install it again , that is only the way and last way
to be safe, yu can uninstall the old GOZ via DIM before installing new one, I found 2, one was beta other the regular one , but the truth is, beta or not GOZ is all the same for DS
that is the one you need to install
I had to change the path under the Config. file to my beta DS since it open the other version , if you have more than 2 DS installed then here can be conflicts
I am sure if you re-install GoZ and send first files from Zbrush to DS it will link them together and Zbrush will place a files in the pluging folder so next time you export models from DS they will go to the right vesion of Zbush , right now you have an old files under the plugin folder from old Zbrush version so DS can't connect right. Removing Zbrush will not remove the files, only if you clean the cache under Preference/Goz in Zbush 2020 ( not 2021)
I've verified everything you mentioned, thank you for such clear instructions, but it still isn't working right. I've even gone so far as to uninstall ZBrush 2021 and re-installed it. The path is exactly as you say, and I can cut and paste the path into my file explorer and DAZ opens, but I still get the error in DAZ and I when I try to hit GoZ from inside ZBrush I get a strange error (attachment 1) with a path that leads to something that doesn't exist. I've downloaded the GoZ application through the manual downloads, and uninstalled the other one through DIM, and then even uninstalled and then re-installed the manual GOZ app again... It's a shame, I know this isn't supposed to be this hard, but no matter what I do it simply will not work...
I see the path have different direction of "/" , one go / other \, that is weird
ok , everyhing looks ok, but the files there installed by Zbrush is not correct yet
go to Zbrush2021, clear the file cache under Goz in Preference , close Zbrush, then install manually the Goz for DAZ again, and then open Zbrush2021 and force reinstall under Preference/GoZ , you can remove manually all files from the C:\Users\Public\Pixologic\GoZApps\DAZStudio64 folder beside the configuration files before installing GoZ for DS manually
reinstalling DS or Zbrush will not fix it as it is total different application that do that , don't worry many people have this issue today, you not the only one , we gonna fix it
P.S the problem is that Zbrush2021 reading the old cache files fom other version of Zbrush as there is a small file installed, you need to clear the folder
I'm getting the same exact error still... The same error in Zbrush with the wrong slashes... I've done it all exactly as you describe, and all of the files are exactly where you say they should be, but the error just persists. I even removed all of the files from C:\Users\Public\Pixologic\GoZApps\DAZStudio64 just like you suggested, and I verified that after the GoZ manual installation the files were all back and correct.
It's so strange... for everybody else that had this issue today, the steps to clear all of the cache/files and manually re-install GoZ worked for them? That error in Zbrush doesn't make any sense, either, because the slashes are backwards, but even if they weren't the "scripts" folder doesn't even exist.
I set the application in DIM to be ZBrush 2020, but since we're installing manually that shouldn't matter, right?
Here are the steps I did yesterday
1. Via DIM I uninstalled all versions of GOZ
2. I removed all files that was not removed from the folder C:\Users\Public\Pixologic\GoZApps\DAZStudio64 beside GoZ_Config.txt
3. Downloaded manually GoZ for DS
4. Cleared the file cashe in Zbrush2021 under Preference/GoZ
5. Installed new GoZ for DS manually
6. I checked the path to my desired DS under C:\Users\Public\Pixologic\GoZApps\DAZStudio64 under GoZ_Config.txt
7. Opened Zbrush2021 and forced reinstall path under Preference/GoZ
8. After the path show up for Daz Studio I send model via GoZ to DS and back
9. I closed Zbrush2021 and in DS I loaded Genesis with clothing and sent to Zbrush2021
problem was solved
Every time pixologic make upgrade with a new Zbrush installation in place of update I have the same problem , since the begining of Zbrush and many others too
The GoZ folder is one for all, but only one Zbrush can connect to DS , Zbrush2021 did not installed the prooer path and files that will allow DS to link and connect, instant it cache the old files from preview version, if you cleaned the cache there under the preferences there should be no paths to any programs , just blank ...then you force install and it will look for DS GoZ and install the files that connect DS with Zbrush2021
check the cache folder , there should be a files that tell DS to open the right Zbrush version , if everything is ok , other way it should be almost empty, that is where Zbrush store information about Daz Studio, and things you import and export between, below in the image you see how it looks like when everything is working
under GoZ Application .txt there is just DazStudio64
I suspect under Config.txt you may have different Zbrush version , notice the last slash direction before Zbrush.exe ?
I followed every step you listed above exactly, but I'm basically doing the same thing over and over and getting the same error. My paths look good in both the applications and both of the config files, and everything matches exactly with your screenshots.
In my GoZBrush folder, however, I have WAY less files than you. I've attached screenshots of both GoZBrush and GoZApps/DazStudio64 folders... Hmmm, it's ok, maybe mine's just jacked up in a different way than yours is. I agree that there aren't that many components, and it should just work, but perhaps tomorrow with fresh eyes it will come to me. Alternatively, maybe many more people will start having this problem and we'll find out that there's someting else missing that I may have removed when I uninstalled the 2020 version.. I have no idea. Thank you for all of your time, and for you patience with me, you explained it all very well and I followed everything you said, for some reason something must be different between your config and mine, I just can't for the life of me figure it out
The only difference I see is the path you have , the slashes are reversed , plus I missing in the GoZbrush folder 3 exe programs , that why it don't start maybe, one of them must be installed by GoZ for DS and the others by Zbrush2021, the instalation is not complete .
Anyway you welcome , try again tomorrow, maybe you missed something on the way , if nothing works I would remove the pixologic folder from User manually and reinstall fresh Zbrush 2021 and GoZ for DS, Zbrush never remove this folders even after uninstall .
Oh my goodness your right I see the backwards slashes now! I thought you were referring to the error I screenshotted from ZBrush, but now I see the difference in your path! My wife will kill me if I ignore her any longer and go back to turn on the computer, but I'll try this first thing. If all else fails, I'll do the reinstall as you suggested.
Thanks and have a great night!
I've tried to search for the answer but it looks to me like ZBrush doesn't do animation (although the cloth promo certainly has movement). I'm thinking of a figure walking, for example, and the clothes moving with her. This is possible within Marvelous Designer which can import animations and simulate frame by frame but is this also possible in ZBrush?
You welcome , have a good night ! and I hope for good news in he morning ! I know how frustrating it can be , so good luck !
It is possible but not in DS , only in programs that read the dynamic simulation files, I guess you can use dforce in DS and have problem solved , in Zbrush it is more for the modelers and content creators , not for doing animations
It should work to just tell DIM you have the 2020 version and then point it to the 2021 folder.
This was my thought, also, but whether I do it through DIM or through the manual package I'm getting the same error. At this point, I'm curious to see if I'm just an outlier here or if other people start running into it. Since I'm just installing the current downloadable package (either through DIM or manually, I assume it doesn't matter) everybody else would be doing the same thing. I don't know what I could have done to break it, though, I was literally using GoZ without issue 2 days ago, and all I did was install a new Zbrush version and uninstall the old one, so generally speaking I dont' think anything much changed.
I saw in a different thread that you use GoZ also, right? I'll be interested to know if your upgrade goes smoothly or if there is anything you have to iron out along the way... I think, for the most part, few people have upgraded considering the release was only a few days ago.
Unfortunately, flipping the slashes around didn't have any effect on the issue :(... I've got to run to work, so I'll try the re-install stuff later when I get back. It's OK, I suppose, I don't use GoZ all that much, since I'm usually working with either custom assets or I use ZBrush for high-poly sculpting, the manual import/export thing is usually what I have to do, anyway. Still, it would be nice to have working eventually, so I'll give it a go later tonight. Thanks!!
@Richard.H , this was the most difficult case of GoZ for DS I ever encountered as I never saw message before in DS saying it can't connect to Zbrush2021 or any Zbrush version for this matter. I was suspecting running 2 version of DS may have been the problem , but nope, I still running 2 versions and everything is fine now. I am guessing removing the old User/public/pixologic folder files did the trick, something was messed up there
I do the same, but I like GoZ for personal quick tests back and forward or quick fixes , but it set a bug in your mind until you fix it , needed or not lol
After you remove that pixologic folder manually and re-install Zbrush before installing GoZ for DS it will work, there is no other way as that is the last option you have and nothing can mess it up beside new future separate version of Zbrush but not gonna happen soon. Just make sure you install the path to DS in Zbrush after everything, before you sending files between the programs .
I have one version of D|S running. I installed ZBrush 2021, opened it to make sure it was registered properly and then closed the program. I opened up DIM and uninstalled GoZ. Then I deleted the path saved in DIM for ZBrush (in my case, I had it pointing to 2020 from DIM's 2019 option). I then recreated the path to Zbrush as though it was the first time, using the ZBrush 2020 option it offered. Then, in the folder @MECAD has mentioned before (user/public/pixologix/gozapps), I completely deleted the DAZStudio64 folder. Once that was done, I went back to DIM and reinstalled GoZ, which recreated the deleted DAZStudio64 folder. I opened up D|S, sent a figure over to ZBrush, did a quick morph and then sent it back to D|S without issue (ZBrush first went through the list of potential programs until D|S popped up, which I accepted, before sending it back).
Hope to get an answer here because I cannot find another thread for ZBrush. I bought the full version 2020.1 two months ago. The perpetual license. Now there is the new 2021. Aaargh! I can't find any informations about how to upgrade. If I'm locked in I could download it. But the question is now: will it be a regular, complete ZBrush? Or a test version? And will I be charged?
And if all this is not a problem, should I deinstall the 2020 before I download the new one? And deactivate the license key for 2020? Maybe someone has did it yet? Help would be nice!
A perpetual license will allow you to upgrade to 2021, free of charge. Detailed instructions are found at Zbrushcentral dot com... I'm not sure I can link to it since it's a 3rd party site (I think rules?), but there's a big image right on the front page that you can click on and then click on the little link that takes you to the installation instructions.
The perpetual license is expensive but, over time, is an amazing value... All versions in recent memory have been free if you have a perpetual license, so you're good to go!
You don't need to uninstall 2020, they're indipendant of each other... In fact, I would reccomend to not uninstall the old one until you are happy with the new one since you'll have to reconfigure your interface.
what duckbomb said
Thank you for posting the steps you took. May I ask for some clarification on what you meant by "deleted the path saved in DIM for Zbrush"? I'm attempting to follow to the letter, but I don't know where to find this path in DIM (advanced settings? which tab?) Thanks so much. M.
@duckbomb Thank you, awww, that's good to hear! I'm not even started with 2020 - so it's a great thing to do that with the newest version :D
