If you're a RMP shopper, you'll find almost all of greenpots' "School" sets on sale for 70% off this weekend, and if you're a Rendo member there's another 17% coupon which DOES stack with that 70% O.O.

*feeling very poor right now...* ~_~.

Flat out of content money here.. And since I missed a day of work last week, probably little to none this coming Friday.

Classroom interiors are needed *eventually* but not right now, so I'll go hit Rendo and wishlist some goodies.

Well, right here there's Classroom Furniture and it's a PC item,
and Interiors: The Classroom has an older look, for $9.95.

Complaint: They don't put release dates on things in here. I wanted to get any $1.99 items that won't be that price after I am changed over to PC+. I think the only one in my wishlist that was released after July 31 is the Robot Titan. I don't remember when the West Park Administration or West Park Ablutions were released. I think the Rama Drums and the add-on textures were released before the end of July, though.

That animation tutorial looks to be old. I guess it will still work, though.

    Dana

ETA: It would be nice if they'd put the date you added something to your wishlist, too. That would help.

Thanks. A lot of work to find things, though. But it worked. It would still be nice to have the date something was added to my wishlist displayed. I do that on my site. And I have a link to the ReadMe that pops it up right on the product page.

I found out what I needed to know, though, so thanks. :)

@Kyoto: Best of luck with your next interview! :cheese:

Unix/Linux is written almost entirely in C. The C language has been implemented on almost every computer known to Man, thus making Unix/Linux extremely portable as very little machine-specific code is required in most cases.

C is also a very concise language and produces compact, optimized code - C++ typically generates larger code
AND the language "does things for you" under the hood, removing control of everything from the programmer.

I code in C 80% of the time, then it's C++ and C#, a touch of Java, and yes - low level assembly language (VERY machine-specific).

    Lecture over... :red:

...thank you. Both the interview and assessment went very well. The hours, and as I mentioned, the commute are much better than the west side site. If Thy hire me, I'll b in for 6 weeks paid training. Should know later today.

This was the reason I was AWOL from the forums yesterday.

As I had time on my transit ticket (just got a day ticket) and was in the neighbourhood, took a side trip to the airport on the new tram line to do a bit of plane watching. Pretty disappointing compared to the "old days". No more of the "big jets" I remember like 707s, 720s, 727s, DC-8s, 757s, 767s etc. With all the downsizing airlines are doing these days most flights in and out of here are now on turboprops or what I call "toy jetliners" (those "micro" commuter jets) which make even an old DC-9 series 10 or 737-100 look like a "jumbo jet" in comparison. The most exciting events all afternoon were a formation of F-15s from the local air reserve which took off for routine patrol (afterburners lit) and a FedEx MD-11 (basically a cargo version of the DC-10) that landed. Sad, considering Portland used to be a bustling "International" airport.

Interesting that Linux is written in C and not assembly/machine code.

I spent a lot of my wandering early days on 727s.. very solid aircraft, all my bad experiences were on 737s... :blank:

    I've done DC-10s, I think.... meh..

C is wildly portable by design, and gives the programmer great power.. I've ported an entire operting system from one processor to another in 3 days because it was 99% C code. :bug:

...for myself the DC-9 and its derivatives (the MD-80/90 series) series always bothered me as they used a mechanical jackscrew for the elevator control. Not being vigilant about maintaining it is usually results in failure as was evidenced a few years ago by the Alaska MD-88 that crashed in the Pacific several years ago. The DC-10 was probably Douglas' biggest black eye (sad for a company that gave us the DC-3 and built other rock solid planes in the post war years, as well as one of the most comfortable jetliners to travel on - the DC-8). A lot of it was due to Manufacturing shortcuts and design flaws in order to roll the DC-10 out before Lockheed's 1011 Tri Star. These included minimal braces on the baggage door latching mechanism (which contributed to several accidents, the worst being the Turkish airlines crash), engine pylon design with only two mounting bolts (instead of three like Boeing employes) and having all the hydraulic lines for the wing surface controls pass through the engine pylon (Chicago crash), and placing a major junction for both primary and backup hydraulic boost systems above the forward compressor section in the tail engine (Iowa City crash). Meanwhile, no Lockheed 1011 has ever been lost due to mechanical failure (the Florida crash was pilot error, a couple were destroyed up by terrorists, and one crashed due to wind shear while attempting a landing in Dallas during a severe thunderstorm).

I totally agree on the 727, it was a solid workhorse, an comfortable plane to fly on (with all the engines behind you). and was Boeing's biggest seller before introduction of the 737-300 and follow on varieties we see today. Never really had an issue with the early 737s, actually liked them because they had a "full width" cabin (as wide as the 707) compared to the DC-9 and just "felt" better when in flight. Noisy though if you sat in the far back behind the wing. One of my faves was the Boeing 720-B (a medium range jet based off the 707 that predated the 727). The 720 had the highest mach number cruise of any jetliner at the time due to it's lower weight and the fact it used the same engines as the full size 707 did. In the late 60s, Northwest configured them with 5 across seating (2 + 3) more legroom throughout the cabin, offered premium service (sort of a proto "business class") all at tourist fare prices. The other cool planes to fly on were United's Caravalles (a French built jet they used on the Milwaukee - New York route) which were all first class, back when it really was "First Class".

Oh, and I an't find a darn football model!

...and a football field texture for any flat ground plane:

    ...and a goalpost.

...and if you have the Daz's Touchdown Star/Touchdown Baby Football clothing, post apocalyptic textures (might be great for the "Dillos unis).

This is Kiera. She's working her way through college, waitressing at Aiko's Gothic Sushi. She's a Shadowlander, and they don't normally leave their plane, but Kieras parents wanted her to get a well-rounded education.

Kiera attends UAT, majoring in Dark Arts with a minor in mechanical engineering. She's in her sophomore year, and is doing quite well.

Kiera DOES have a bit of a temper (most Shadowlanders do), so it's wise not to tick her off... :ahhh:

...I like her. (wonder if she knows a certain Ms Rita Kovec?)

I want to make a 3d movie like pixar but on a smaller budget. I have wanted to make an animated movie in a long time. Maybe for about two decades. What software do I need in order to make a 3d movie?

Software isn't going to be the limiting factor, time (to get it assembled) and hardware (to render it out this century) are going to be far larger factors, assuming you have the essential skills.
...If I am not correct, Pixar has a render farm of something like 1,200+ servers. And it still takes them a couple years to render a full length film.

It took them nearly three years just to create the hair for the Merida character from the film Brave which included having to write custom software and design custom hardware to develop it.

spring starts earlier there than our autumn, the 21st. it's been a real ice summer weather wise, they predicting an extra cold winter here.
...not again. I'd really consider moving to a more hospitable clime after what y'all suffered through last year back there.

That's what I'm also using for the grassy area in my story. With my fluffy dragon, I used the bonus scene that came with the bundle, and moved one of the rocks around. I wanted to put down bamboo trees but I felt that they diminished the fluffy fluff on the dragon. I may still go back and add in some bamboo

...apologies for nearly a page worth of spam. This having to go to a hotspot when I have other things in life to do is becoming a real drag.

...so is this stupid "e" key thing. All I can think is it is some ridiculous hithertofore unknown bug in the ASCII coding somewhere that is causing it (yet it makes absolutely no sense such a thing would even happen) as with the new keyboard, all the other keys that no longer work on the notebook, function fine.

Spent yesterday doing RPG stuff with several friends.

Pic drop related to the game below.

Was also an exercise in "cinematic" lighting/effects using several different techniques including flagging with AoA's lights, Nerd3D's Fog Tool, HeroFX and Jepe's SteamZ planes and even an UberVolume cone.

...long backstory behind the scene, but don't worry, it's in a very very safe place.

...oh, and No Wehrmacht or Schutzstaffel personnel were harmed in the creation of the scene.
