..hmm, may pick up that hula skirt which used to be here. Would need to figure out how to adapt it for G3 though as it's rigged for Dawn and there' no Dawn clone. Already have the Hivewire Cat as it was a free a while back.
Hope Ken Gililand's Birds will find a place to be - they are really good :(
Bummer.
Check Rendo first before buying HW. Duplicate items and on sale 50%. Sale ends soon. I'm posting in my Art Studio thread what is and isn't at Rendo for dog, cat, and working on horse. And yeah, now that it's mentioned, I remember that other stuff being here. I'll have to check and see if I bought it!
Well, I had only just signed up to buy the horse racing bundle there a couple months back. It's quite nice although I'm still working on the fits to the DAZ Horse 2 as I couldn't afford the Hive Wire Horse and the additional Hivewire Thoroughbred Horse morph to use the tack.
I was hoping to buy flowers, animals, and birds there but now I guess I will look to buy those at Renderosity some day maybe.
It must be a lot of work servicing those online stores and working through support tickets. Also, it must cost a pretty penny to license dependable and secure online store software.
Good luck to all the Hivewire staff and customers.
Like everyone else has commented with every online store that closes the choice of niche products is getting smaller then only the likes of Daz and Rendo will be left and have the monopoly of our hobby . But a glimmer of light some products and artists will hopefully find new homes
But their humans are (should have been) their flagship product. Not everyone renders animals so not everyone will buy them. The supporting content for the flagship items really has to be the thing that brings in money for the store or you're simply burning funds until you have to shutter your doors. If the only content people bought was vehicles in the daz store when they also had figures for sale, it wouldn't take long before salaries couldn't be paid. Content matters in an online store. The decison to remove and ban non-hivewire figures and related content in the store was probably the final nail in the coffin. Sure a store has a right to do that, but the main figures and content have to make up the difference.
Their horse, dog, and cats are their de-facto flagship figures. It's a bummer that it wasn't enough to keep the store afloat.
yeah too many rifts and ill feelings between companies led to some less than businesslike decisions
Renderosity on the otherhand revels in selling addons/texture sets for DAZ products
I believe Ken Gilliland said there will be bird updates available at HW before closing, so you may want to keep watching for them.
RIP in peace?
um
Game Rip in peace !
I say it just to see if it gets a reaction.. kinda the same way people call it the PC+ Club.. it's all good.
Hope there will be a way to transfer purchase history for products bought on HiveWire and available at Rendo - I already have my purchases backed up, but I'll wait to purchase the tiger and caribou until more info on the store move. Unfortunately, it looks like HW pulled the Mini Morph Pack for the HiveWire Big Dog, so no fix for it and the Dog Bandana to work on the updated dog I guess...
so many examples ATM machine LAME encoder, LASER light, SCUBA apparatus
There was almost no content for other figures in their store before that, so I doubt it changed much.
Too bad they aren't here at DAZ. I may be wrong, but wasn't the founder of HiveWire one of the cofounders of DAZ with Dan Farr?
Christopher Creek
and you know how it is when your company gets taken over with a new CEO
Fortunately the Hivewire forums and preview threads aren't going anywhere. And at present, the Hivewire label is intended to remain cross-platfrorm, even though Dawn and Dusk are now official Poser figures.
Actually there was enough content for those other figures; keep in mind some of those vendors preferred not to go to rendo to sell with their previous stores closed down but may not had made a specific product for the Hivewire figures. Whether that content actually sold is another discussion.
The Hivewire store originally had content from a number of artists who took it there after leaving either here or Rendo, or some other stores which I suspect are now gone. They got some more from a number of artists who didn't bring their stores here when RDNA closed. Quite a bit of it was for gen4. But they narrowed their focus to primarily Hivewire figures a year or so ago and I think most of the older gen4 stuff was eliminated around that time.
There are a number of Contributing Artists over there who still have content which isn't based on Hivewire's figures. Some of them develop for only Poser, or only Studio, and it's uncertain where their products are going to land. Ken Gilliland's birds are probably the largest collection of content in that category, and he hasn't made an announcement of where he is going to be taking his stuff next.
He did say he expects to have a few more of his existing packages updated and available before Hivewire closes down, and a couple of new packages released.
I'll be keeping an eye out for them.
I'd be curious to know where Ken1171 will be bringing his Universal Anime Head and Universal Chibi Head. I've been eyeing them and I would be happy to see them come here (if that's something he'd want to do, of course).
Ken was here at one time as well. Not sure why he left. I had most of what he released here and picked up some of the updates over at Hivewire. Was waiting for more of the updates for sure.
I really haven;t seen what I would consider a "good thing" by the closing of any of the stores. I thought RDNA was a huge loss, and a lot of the independents just seemed to fade away.
Ack! I just filled up my cart the day before yesterday, until I realized the new item I wanted on HW required me to upgrade Daz... I nearly got it anyway, and maybe I will go ahead and just store it...
...yes.
i actually like Dawn and Dusk. I htink HiveWire used "Dawn of a New Era" as a marketing phrase or unoffical motto for Dawn.
Semi-official I think. That was when the original Dawn came out in something like 2013. They're good quality figures. I thought that they were a quite viable alternative to G2, which was the current version of Genesis at that point. The Special Edition releases, which are the ones currently available, were better though. They're currently concentrating on Dawn and Dusk 2 which I expect will make their debut over on Rendo.
There's nothing good about *any* of the 3D markets closing. Something always gets lost in the transition.
Beware of Sanctum Arts products. I had some imagesthat I had I rendered of their aliens on Dreamstime (microstock site). Sanctum Arts somehow found out and sicced their lawyers on Dreamstime, who then contacted me. I had to remove all the Sanctum Arts images from Dreamstime and allother microstock sites. I had originally purchased the models on Content Paradise, I read the EULA carefully, it didn't bar commercial use, and it stated that images made with models can't be used for logos. I didn't enable extended licenses for logos so I figured I was within the dictates of the EULA. Sanctum Arts lawyers saw otherwise, and I was stuck at least $100 worth of models that were rendered useless, I deleted them from my harddrive. I was so disgusted I didn't want to use them in ANY renders, even noncommercial. I emailed Sanctum Arts to complain, and they said their products are intended for hobbyists only - and yet the EULA did not forbid commercial use. Do not take any chances with these people. DO NOT use Sanctum Arts Models for ANYTHING remotely commercial, irregadless of what the EULA says. You cannot fight them, they have lawyers. I deleted all artwork containing Sanctum Arts products off my harddive so I wouldn't be tempted to use them for anything commercial. Before reccomending Sanctum Arts products to people, you should also include a warning. DANGER
