Not sure if anyone knows this but Lisa Buckalew is in the hospital and it's not looking very good as Chris, over at the Hivewire forums, just let us know that she's in decline. She is one of the founding members and co owners of Hivewire.
I often laugh at "thoughts and prayers" but in this case every little bit helps. I find is very strange that with the closing of Hivewire the Queen Bee is in decline!
I've never met her but she's a star. Always kind and helpful beyond the norm!
She's created some of the best plants and maps and more! It's unfathonable to think about anything but a good recovery from this hell! Her sons are being realistic about it all though! Which, really, when you get down to it is something we all must face.
My heart and prayers and good thoughts to Lisa, her family and extended family!
scary stuff, was a farly routine proceedure too, I know a few people who have had it, however anything can go wrong or people react unexpectedly to meds etc
I pray that she does recover
she seems a lovely person too.
all her beautiful flowers and plants have brought joy to so many
So, so sorry to hear that :'(. I was hoping she was doing better. She's been a fixture in the community for at least 20 years. My prayers go out to her.
And, I think it's Buckalew. I'm pretty sure :)
Laurie
Yes, Lisa Buckalew, I'll change the post!
Sorry folks, I had my Bees mixed up.
That's awful about Lisa! Thanks for letting us know, Rich.
I had no idea... Thank you for the information. :(
Lisa's Botanicals were the first things I used to insta-buy around here. They were always very well done... I still use them today.
Oh carp. When will their downloads be completely gone or is it too late? I don’t have access to my computer right now and not sure if I downloaded everything so far.
End of January 2021, as mentioned in first post of the thread.
someone mentioned that Dawn and Dusk don't look great. I agree. maybe the lighting in the promotional renders seems abit off. I'm going to play around with surface settings and light settings in daz Studio in an attempt to make Dawn look better.
Hivewire does have some nice props and landscape pieces like rock formations. Hivewire's birds and cat look cute.
Sad that another site is going south. The only thing that could "help" DAZ is more competition, not less.
you have access to phone or somedthing?
create a cloud account and download them to there
Okay, question. For Ken's birds, are ALL the products "Songbird Remix?" Since we need to do screenshots of what we've bought, I want to be sure I'm sending everything that relates to the birds to get the product updates. So is there anything that's not Songbird Remix in the title? And great, we have to rely on Daz to show everything. The DIM and the Product Library are still mucked up. I'm running Taoz's script right now and getting a LOT of errors for product screwups. (Black swirlies, not sure what else is included.)
It detects one other type of error: if a page is accessible but the page source doesn't start with "OK" (which probably means it's messed up), I haven't come across that error yet myself though.
Note that there may be false positives if certain other server problems occur in which case you may get a lot of errors, that's why I've made the doublecheck feature. I'll suggest waiting with doublechecking as a new update is coming where you can checkmark any false positives (pages that load OK) to remove them from the report automatically.
An answer to your first question: No.
You can go to Hivewire and use the Contributing artist filter ...
I went through my old receipts from here and am listing those without "Songbird Remix":
Parrot Cage
Condors & Vultures Scavangers Bundle
You may have bought more ...
@Kerya Thanks. Been spending the last couple hours writing things down to compare, take notes. Other Ken's at HiveWire are the Nature's Wonders series, but I don't think any of that was sold here. I just ran Taoz's script and I have over 600 products messed up in Product Library (black swirlies) and who knows what else is messed up, so this is frustrating.
Ouch .. I "only" had 48 swirlies ... up to now no answer from Support.
As for finding screenshots for Ken's products here: I don't know about you, but I have a text document (rtf) where I am copying all my orders and then for each product I am copying the lines from the product page for Artist, required etc. That way I could just search for Ken Gilliland. If you have something similar, you could just do screenshots for those orders.
@kerya LOL I've already got my system in place (and over 28,000 products done) so not switching. But thanks for the tip. I prioritized getting all my stuff downloaded and doing images due to the projected horrible hurricane season. Got it done by the first of June so far as downloads. Images, no, but I've got my system down pat.
Here's one for you folks- Check to see if you bought the Songbird Remix Near and Far Bundle. THEY DON'T HAVE the Songbird Remix: Woodpeckers in DIM that's in that bundle. I typed it as a separate search in DIM, typed woodpeckers, typed the entire title, etc. See if it comes up for you. File a ticket and complain if you don't have it.
Most of the birds have SBRM as a prefix, that's a useful thing to use in the search box.
However, not all Ken's products are birds. He's done environments, props and a couple of vehicles as well. I'm pretty sure that the Aviary and Duck Pond may have launched over on Hivewire, but the Safari Camp, Hanging Gardens of Nimrud, Mission Bells, and Seashore House may be in people's product libraries here. He also did parts of the Pixel Downs Racecourse, and some of the Hawaiian series.
Plus a few other things, like the ostrich sulky, and the Elegant Swan vehicle, a set of optics for birdwatchers, and oddments like the Perching places and 'Art Treasures of/from the Bower Collection'
Ken asked if we want the updates for Daz purchased birds, that we do the Product Library or DIM screenshots, and send those along with our HiveWire account number. Where on earth do you find that account number? It's not on orders, and I can't find it in my account. It's probably staring me right in the face.
I'm sorry to hear that the Hivewire store went out of business. I'm sorry that Miss B is ill. I wish her and everyone else at Hivewire all the best.
I visited Hivewire for awhile. I just found it hard to get behind Dawn & Dusk when they were relatively new. They just didn't have the kind of supporting stuff that DAZ offers for their products. I was very surprised when Hivewire announced that they would no longer carry anything relating to DAZ products. I figured any store needed to have as many avenues of making money as they can get. Then it wasn't long before Hivewire announced the closing of the store.
Sent you a sitemail ...
Ron, they didn't totally abandon Daz. Most of their horse, cat, and dog products have IRAY settings, and quite a few have LAMH support. I've been playing with the deer and big cat, they are really great in DS.
There's a few inaccuracies in Rons post besides that one, but misinformation regarding Hivewire and its products has been persistant since they started.
All of the birds I have purchased from Hive come with Iray settings and full DAZ functionality. Same for the dog, cat and horse, as has already been mentioned.
Not all of the Hivewire contributing artists made things for both programs, but just about all of the products which have the Hivewire label are inherently cross-platform. Ken's products are as well. It wasn't DAZ content that they phased out from the store, it was gen4 content.
I think the big issue for Dawn and Dusk (and Baby Luna) was that, while the idea of having both figures be sort of a "peace bridge" between Poser and DS was a good one in writing... not so much in execution. I'd imagine for content creators, it was probably more of a hassle than it was worth to make items for a small demographic and a program that has, let's be real here, shrunk in demographics in the past 7 years. It was smart of HiveWire to make things like their animals platform agnostic, but when you get into human figures... yeah. Given the hardships they're all facing over there r/n (and I'm sure coronavirus didn't help as a lot of us had to reduce spending across the board this year), I hope Dawn/Dusk 2 do better for their sakes, but that's a different kettle of fish.
Well honestly Genesis rules the roost in DAZ Studio as it should. When I created stuff for DS for Dusk and Dawn narry a sale. Some but not allot. So now I'm a Poser boi and making stuff for L'Homme and soone Dusk 2.0. I like underdogs. Never a follower, always a leader for the underloved! LMAO
i like how Hivewire sells items (morphs/textures) that work in Daz Studio 4.x. Most of the clothes and textures on Renderosity that I found only work in Poser.
True, but there are DAZ Studio-only users who make use of other figures in additioin to the newest generation of Genesis. Like me, ha!
And I just bought a dForce dress at Hivewire that's for both Dawn and Genesis 8 Female:
Dawn SE and Darcy 8. A test render I did earlier; I'm still learning dForce so I didn't do anything beyond push the "Simulate" button.
