I just remembered my newly repotted plants were outside in dumping rain.  I had to move them to be in the front door cove.  When I found them they were swimming in rain water!

oh by the way a big thunderstorm is outside and it is pouring so much right now.

Non-complaint:  Wheee... baby-bear computer is up to snuff.  New single thickness GT-1030 graphics card works at 2K on my 2k monitor and also is able to force the other monitor (HD) to display in 2K mode (not perfectly but workably)  Yay, all four machines can use the big screen at its full resolution.   By using the single thickness graphics card I gained access to the x4 PCIe slot it was obscuring.  I installed my 4-port USB3.0 card into it.  Also, the new VengeancePro RAM with RGB lighting is installed and working.  It's not programmed to match mama-bear yet, but otherwise working OK.  And finally, I dug into my boxes of used parts and found a dual frequency PCIe WiFi-"N" card to fill the bottom opening at the back of the case.

    Wheee... baby-bear's all grown up.yes

Feeling better today. Still not fully recovered though. At least the sulphur burps have stopped *URGH!*

I hate writing reviews on Etsy. I just can't find the words. Then again, it gets that way with messages too.

....oh could we use some of that rain here on the West coast.  Ugh, have to get out of the flat for a while because it's just too bloody hot and stuffy Also need to give the computer a bit of rest in this heat. Haven't done any "Dazzing" for several days now and won't be able to until Monday.

    Need a watermelon margarita.

I feel like I'll never be good enough for my housemates.   But I think I'm moving again soon.  Hopefully away from those two haters in particular.

Long time no see y'all.  Is an old Grandpa still welcome here?    I been somewhat out of commission last few years anyway.   I have too little "UP" time any more.    So, what happened with Chohole?

  • McGrandpaMcGrandpa Posts: 464

ASUS only eh?   Heh!   I got stuck having to buy and use both a new ASUS motherboard and an ASUS video card.  Both are performing fantastically too.  I built this rig 13.5 months ago.   I'd been using the old one since 2008, I built it up for the "BluesDragonsFrazettaArt" Contest that ended August 8, 2008.   Only big contest I ever entered in, and had an absolute BLAST all during it.  Made a lot of new friends and met MANY artists.  It was fun, and I miss that level of socializing terribly.

Yes, Chickenlips did ridicule even my art!  LOL!

OH yes, the ASUS stuff was bought because I could not find even one other motherboard that was actually hands-on available.  Lockdown problems and shortages everywhere it seems.   The motherboard I wanted was a Gigabyte, thoughts to new video card came later.  The mobo is a TUF X570 Gaming Plus WiFi.   And, compared to the old stuff it replaced, it's a doozie!   I wanted to try an AMD RYZEN X3700 octal core 16 thread cpu this time.  Intel is fine, but I wanted to give AMD another shot.  It'd been a long dry spell since the old A6 X2 4800+ with 4 gigs of ram.    I gotta say that ASUS really put together a super clean 5 layer board, with excellent placement of all the ports and connectors, lots of fan connectors.  Eight SATA3 (6gbs) ports.  11 USB ports, and all the other usual suspects.  WiFi is outstanding, gotta say that for it.  So, other than the fact I was forced to use Win 10 with it and the CPU, I was really happy with it, even the overblown pricetag. Which did include rush shipping.  I had it at my door in two days.  Wow.  So, this happens to be the first ASUS motherboard I bought and am happy with since the ancient Slot 1 Celeron boards daze.   There were some ASUS motherboards that were simply awful and I went with ABit for a while.  Then with a solid Pentium III I tried a Gigabyte, and loved using them for years.   So, the Covid lockdown forced a different set of choices this time.   But, it worked out great in the end!

The folks at Fantasy Attic did a poll for my builds name.   We all came up with one I really love:  BadMoonRYZEN!  Ain't that neat!

On a slightly less deep note,  still stressing over this xpShatter issue + trying to figure out how to scale characters up/down without Spline-IK breaking entirely.

It turns out you have to have one or more holes in the bottom of the pots. Drainage, or something like that.

...I love ASUS MBs, very well designed. My old PT6 is still soldering on.  Thinking about upping the memory to 48 GB (even though supposedly it supports a maximum is 24 GB) as I have a 6 core Xeon (supports 144 GB) and a number of people had success with doing so.  Would cost far more to get a new MB as it would mean new CPU and memory as well (on an even more extremely tight budget). .

It turns out I think there are some but the rain was so much the holes couldn't keep up.  Remember it was gushing a downpour yesterday.  And there was flash flood warnings or something like that, it alerted my echo dot and my phone and watch!

Non-complaint:  Family portrait time.  Having recently finished upgrading baby-bear, the following images are the current state of my workbench area.

1st photo: It's a "U" shaped area with baby-bear("Mimas") in the foreground in the 1st photo.  Momma-bear("Janus") just behind baby-bear on the left-hand stem of the "U".  Then the secondary 1080-HD monitor & keyboard(s) for (Mimas, Janus, and Nox), then the bank of external 3.5" hard drives.   Between the two banks of external drives is the 4-port KVM switch for the big monitor. The white platform with 5 buttons on it, under three of the hard drives, is a power panel for some of the hard drives that don't have a power switch.  Baby-bear has only just graduated and is still looking for a job.

Momma-bear and baby-bear now have their RGB lights trained to present a static field of blue with the two memory chip's RGB lights displaying a simple pulse of blue flowing down on one, and simple pulse of green flowing up on the other.  Momma-bear has a GTX-1660 graphics card.  I use momma-bear for photoshop & what simple video work I do.  The RAM memories are Corsair VengeancePro and I use the Corsair "iCUE" control software for all the lighting in the case.

Note:  underneath baby-bear is "George".  George is currently on sabatical and unconnected (baby-bear took some of his connections).  I only engage with "George" when it's time for a Win10 upgrade, he's kinda slow.  The other members of the family not in these photos are "Atlas" (even slower than "George") upstairs in my bedroom, and two unnamed nearly 20 year old Dell Dimension desktops that run XP, stacked in a corner, which I pull out and use for playing old games if necessary.

4th photo: At the head of the "U" is Grampa-bear("Nox") and the 27 inch 1440-2K monitor.  Grampa-bear "Nox" is retired but has retained all his skills and some of his stored information.  I only wake him up to ask him questions about the old days.

7th photo: And in the last couple of photos looking at the right-hand stem of the "U", is finally papa-bear("Saturn") under the desk and his secondary 1080-HD monitor and direct keyboard & mouse on top.  Also, under the top shelf is "Epimethius" my 12 year old laptop.  Papa-bear has ARGB lights for the fans, but no window to see the lighted logo on the RTX-3060 graphics card.  (*Sigh, wasted photons.sad*)  I use papa-bear for DAZing and complex video stuff.

And finally, at the right end of the last photo is the black backside of my TV, video recorder, Blu-ray player, and media cabinet.

I've got an Asus (desktop). I wouldn't buy another one.

     I'm so tired.

How on Earth am I going to remove her head... Maybe I should've given this re-rooting idea a little more thought.

I think of my plush/puppet toy collection as a family too xD  Always bring them out whenever I get a new one so they can be introduced and stuff.

I'll get some more 'recent' pics later plus what passes for a desk setup later though, phone's needing to charge + I would kind of like to clear a little bit of the clutter off first xD

At the time of taking this photo, it was minutes after plugging it in and turning it on.  Safi-plush wants it. It glows and he wants it.  He can’t have it, but he can be its self-appointed guardian :)

Unrelated, but again the forum refuses to let me paste in text from elsewhere. The above line about my plush perched atop the desktop? Yeah, Ctrl-V and nothing came in from Tumblr. Had to paste it into Notepad++ then paste it into the forum for it to finally work.  Weird!
