...relieved to hear you are feeling better.

Yeah, we have a heat advisory here as well.  Was 102° today, will be 106° tomorrow and 103° on Friday.  At least no "Death Valley" like temperatures like we had at the end of June. Finally should drop below 90° on Monday.

"Real Feel" (heat index) today was 112°

...wonderful, as if the crispy temperatures are not bad enough, just received a red flag alert for extremely high fire risk due to high temperatures and low humidity (15%) as well as to possible lightning in the Cascades and foothills from now through Friday night.

In California the Dixie fire is over a half million acres and maybe about 30% contained.  Smoke form all these fires is getting heavier over Portland.

Oh, and another night of saving money as more "Bundlemania" (not to be confused with Beatlemania").

There's a red flag warning here as well. Temperatures are going to be in the high 90s for the next two days, but thankfully after that things cool down some. The red flag warning is concerning though. Just a few days ago the neighboring town was almost evacuated due to a fire. The fire is contained now, but with these conditions, things could change quickly. And that town is only 6 miles away. sad

...01:35 and still 80°.  So much for a good night's sleep tonight.

82° is the normal average high for this time of year.

  • InstaCart for Loblaws delivered my groceries to my apt in a stroller - you know, the kind one expects to find a baby or young toddler in. He also brought along his young daughter. Delivering groceries.

I have some absurd grocery delivery stories myself... People delivering my groceries hours late "because they were waiting for a wire transfer," or showing up with kids (which is pretty sad, imo, because they couldn't find/afford childcare), or marking themselves as arrived and my food as delivered when they were in fact lost two miles away. The problem with them saying they've arrived is that you can no longer call them to give them directions to the right house. It's very frustrating. One guy spent half an hour parked in my driveway after dropping off my food (and moving it a couple of times. At first I thought he was stealing it! But now I think he set the bags on the front steps, thought better of it, moved them to the porch, then read the note and moved them back) and it really creeped me out. I asked him what the deal was, and he said he was having trouble with the app. So I told him to call support (I have done some deliveries with my husband and there is a support line that picks up right away for drivers). He then proceeded to pull out of my driveway and park along my neighbor's lawn and stayed there for another 15 minutes. I was pretty surprised ( and still kind of creeped out). I'd never had an issue support couldn't solve in 5. And one time! Well this person got thier own bags mixed in with mine and inadvertently dropped off some brand new Calvin Klein pants (maybe six pairs, all with tags) along with a bag stuffed full of ramen. I tried getting into contact with them. When that failed, I held onto it for months, hoping they would come back to get their stuff. These days, I'm slowly eating the ramen and looking to give the pants away. Luckily, these kinds of things are the exception, not the rule. The worst that's happened lately is the driver not reading the note on my account and leaving the bags in the wrong spot.

Complaint:  Grrrr...angry  A sad end to my attempt to install a 4-port USB3.0 card in my baby-bear computer.sad  My SATA power extender cable came in and I finally attempted to insert the card into the bottom slot on the motherboard.  I was even pleased to see that the card's length was short enough that it didn't conflict with a heavy cable between it and the powersupply cage.yes  HOWEVER, the card didn't seat all the way down into the slot, and was shy about an 8th of an inch.surprise  Enough that the anchor screw wouldn't reach the hole.sad  Upon examination, it's revealed that there is a chip of some sort at the rear edge of the motherboard that hits the bottom of the USB card preventing it from being inserted all the way into its slot.  And there's no way to shave enough material from the bottom edge of the USB card without cutting circuit trace lines.  And there's no other PCIe slot available.  The f#$@$%# graphics card covers two of the three slots.**  Boogers!no

Non-complaint:  Now I have a brand new spiffy USB3.0 card with 3 type "A" sockets and 1 type "C" socket, for some future use.  I also have three (couldn't buy just one) 1-foot long SATA power extension cables for situations where they could come in handy in the future.indecision

**Note:  I initially liked this little motherboard and was eventually able to make a nice looking and decently functioning computer with it.  However, these frustrations have finally turned my opinion of the motherboard that NewEgg forced upon me.  So, here it is.  Be advised that the Asus "TUF GAMING B450M-Plus-II" microATX motherboard has some design issues.  Among these are:  It's old and the PCIe bus is only level 2 not 3.  It has limited upgradability, it's so last-generation.  Also, like most microATX motherboards, it has three PCIe slots but the primary x16 graphics card slot has a x4 slot immediately below it so even a graphics card as old as a GT-730 which is two slots wide makes the x4 slot inaccessible.  The only other slot left is an x16 slot but it's at the bottom of the motherboard and doesn't permit moving the graphcs card to that slot because it would hit the powersupply cage.  Even if it would fit, it would place the graphics board fan right up against the solid metal of the powersupply cage.  Compounding use of that bottom slot is the fact of the  presence of the Audio chip (I think) at the back edge of the motherboard and directly under any circuit card inserted into the bottom PCIe slot, preventing full insertion of any card that expects more space under it.  Do these designers ever work on machines themselves?frown

Complaint:  Two days ago I made it to the grocery store and picked up essentials like bananas, bread & salad stuffs.  Today I finally opened the package of salad greens and noticed that the sell by date was today!  I've gone ahead and made my salad, but I made it a big one because these greens won't last more than about 24 hours.  They're already a little bit slimy to the feel. and now that the package is opened and the inert nitrogen has escaped, they will discolor quickly.  I hate slimy, discolored greens.sad

Non-complaint:  I've reopened the process of upgrading my baby-bear computer.surprise  There's no problem that can't be solved by throwing enough money at it.  The trick is finding the least amount of money necessary.

Browsing the Amazon and NewEgg catalogs I became familiar with all the ways I could have my cake and eat it too.  Still trying to find a way to get a better graphics card capable of 2K resolution I discovered a single-width GT-1030 graphics card with the necessary configuration of HDMI and DVI outputs.  Also, with a single width graphics card, I can insert my 4-port USB3.0 card into the previously obstructed slot directly below the graphics card.  Yay!yes

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07C3DWK1Z/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I also bit the bullet and went ahead and bought 16GB of Corsair "VengeancePro" RAM.  When completed, the RGB appearance of baby-bear will be very similar to mama-bear, same RGB fans, same RGB light strip, and same type of ARGB RAM.  They will look quite coordinated, logical, and impressive as a pair.smiley

Yes I've busted my budget again, but what's money for if not to make one happy or light one's cigars with?  Food, who needs food?  (um..., those are things said by people nearing the end of their lives)surprise  And despite being disappointed with the baby-bear's motherboard design it still makes a very capable and decorative machine for household, workshop, or school purposes.  I might yet be able to sell it after having up'd its impress-factor.

Well doesn't look like I need to cache then export and re-import a Smoke/Fire sim for Redshift to be able to render it,  unsure if there's any benefits to going that route as opposed to just smacking a Volume shader onto the ExplosiaFX object,  unless the Redshift Volume Object can serve as a replacement for the Solver (Which is still set to adaptive here, don't know what the big glow is though)

I used Cycles 4D rather than Redshift, but even using C4D's default renderer, the material included with X-Particles allows rendering. I've never had to export and re-import a sim to render it.

Also, why the Animated Gifs no work? Am I supposed to upload them somewhere instead of here?  I tried to link to a Google Drive upload of it but it just showed up as a big red <X> in the preview :/

The forum software really doesn't like animated gifs. On the few occasions I've posted them here, I had to host them on Imgur. I've also had no luck hotlinking images from OneDrive, and I can imagine Google Drive has the same problem.

Not related to XP,  but do you have much experience with splines?  I've been using Spline-IK to animate certain figures, in this case the Morphing Python, and when I needed to scale the character up it seemed like it wasn't working correctly anymore - the deformation being offset from where the handles actually are.

And to be honest, I have a very hit-and-miss relation with Spline-IK to begin with.  I don't think the Morphin Python and Constrictor are rigged in a way that Spline-IK will work well, might have to go in and change some things aah...

...if you have it in your area, several of the major market chains have their own delivery services that are a bit more reliable and less sketchy, The rub is you usually need to make a minimum order (often 50$) to use the service.

Lots of fire smoke high up in the air, which made for another "red" sunrise this morning, that is getting thicker and has moved over the city.

...oddly, that is something we don't want to hear where I am as that means lightning and with the tinder dry conditions we have (over two months without a long "soaking rain") it could spark new fires (part of the alert that was issued). That is what caused the big fires east of San Francisco last year which turned the sky orange there for days.

I think I'm going to try going to Winco this week. I used to shop there in the before time. The interesting thing about Winco is that while they don't have the same selection as other stores, it's quality stuff for really low prices. It's less noticeable when you're adding things to the cart, but at check out (at least at first) the price is a shocker, in a good way. The problem is that as the weeks went by, I found myself putting more and more in my cart cause "everything's so cheap here," and then I started to end up with the same old price as before at checkout. But I've heard good things about the company and my grocery bill is getting pretty bad lately, so it's probably worth a look-see. I'll just have to restrain myself from impulse buying.

  • Nice find on the dinosaur vid :-)

Our grocery store used to have its own delivery system but they stopped it in favour of letting Instacart take over. Don't know one customer that thinks this was a clever move. Nothing's on sale, and they charge for EVERYTHING ... fair enough for the most part but honestly charging more to deliver water? Like that's a basic part of many grocery orders.

On a happy note though did some looking around and found another place to try my next grocery order at. They'll keep the store's sale prices too :-)
