I feel ridiculous, but I'm already heading my way to the dentist.  I'm wearing a black dress with red yoga pants underneath.  I'm also wearing a leopard print light cardigan over the dress.

A gaggle of gay men just collapsed. surprise

Okay.  Oh well, but other news is that my dentist appointment got postponed due to someone not showing up to work.

Didn't know that gay men and geese shared a grouping term. I learn something new every day.

Unfortunately, for every new thing I learn, I forget three old things I knew. smiley

Modern CPUs on modern motherboards can "turbo" themselves when necessary, getting up to speeds in the high 3 or low 4GHz range.  No need to keep the engine revving at high RPM while sitting at the traffic light.  Saves on energy and reduces heat generation.

I notice that the computer uses 3 watts when it is idle.  I think the computer uses 20+ watts when I run some benchmarks.

yep, it was my dentist office fault!  They should have contacted me to let me know.  They sent a couple text messages to let me know I have an appointment but no sign of contact to say my cleaning got canceled.

...yeah the latter seems to occur with more frequency as the data banks get older.  New stuff tends to purge old stuff and some sectors cease functioning making the swapping more frequent..

Complaint - I miss Misty.  sad

Non-Complaint - had to go out and about to do a bunch of errands today.  My fellow shoppers, etc were masked and respectful of distance.  Pleasantly surprised.

Complaint: The letters are coming off my keys on the keyboard ,tried repainting them with a paint pen ...now that's coming off ,ugh!!! couldn't find a keyboard cover that lined up with the keys ,not in the mood to buy a new keyboard .Also not in the mood to cut my nails they aren't that  long but I'm assuming that is causing the disappearance of the letters .....I'm a one hand "hunt and pecker" cause the other hand works the mouse .UG!!

Well I wasn't quite sure which collective noun was appropriate but decided that "gaggle of gays" was better than a "flock of fa*****". surprise  Although, perhaps, less suggestive.

...yeah I remember the days of mechanical keyboards that had the numbers and letters were slightly embossed into the key and painted (kind of like pips on dice or dominoes).  Used to have a nice one many years ago that also had a closable cover so when I was away form the computer the cat wouldn't mess up what I was working on (or accidentally breaking into say DARPA) by walking or laying on the keyboard.

Hard to find one like that anymore.

The one I have is the same,. While it has impendent switches for each key , the printing is pretty cheap and the letters on several have worn off.

Probably the only option today would be one of those LED gaming keyboards but I find them a bit distracting particularly the ones on which the colours keep changing.

I have one, it's possible to set the colour and brightness by holding a special key and pressing others. The main drawback, at least with this rlatively cheap one, is that in order to mould the letters they had to keep the counters connected to the main body of the letter, so they have stencil-like breaks in the letters, and the symbols for shifted keys are next to the main symbol because the light is at the top of the key-unit. Stil, that should be apparent from the preview images if you look at a keyboard.

  • I got suckered in by a lite-em-up keyboard, cheap.  Looked nice, but there was too much keybounce, & repeats.  Unreliable typing. sad  It's back in it's box and decorating my storage shelves.

I went browseing at Amazon and found  a universal cover for the keyboard ,and some stickers that I hope will work ,  sad thing is even HP doesn't have a matching cover for this key board .... which is where I got it from .

...the keyboard I mentioned had the cover attached to it which hinged down like a piano keyboard lid to fully protect the entire unit both top and sides .  It was solidly made from fairly thick heavy plastic so the cat's weight didn't crack or bend it.  This was when I had my old Pentium P-5 166 MHz system.

  • The fancy flashing light keyboard, black keys with white letters, wear off! Under the black is clear plastic. So I put black sticky letters and some clear nail polish to tide us over.

Yes the flashing lights can be turned off ... although it's more of a turned down so much one can see them.

Using a black marker and clear nail polish also worked sort of for a few keys.

Nobody around here sells keyboard letter pads! They expect everybody to buy a new system rather than fix what they have :-(

I have some old, PS2 HP keyboards (black with silver decoration) and even though some of the keys are quite polished from use, the letters haven't suffered.

The only problem is at home, where the computer is not only working as a space heater but providing the illumination as well and with the aging eyes, it's sometimes hard to see the letters.

  • Thankfully I learned touch typing which works great as long as the fingers are on the correct keys to start with irgwequaw wcwetvrgubf qiyks kiij eRGWE DYBBT, devil

  • kyoto kidkyoto kid Posts: 41,225

..used to be a touch typist, then ol' "Uncle Arthur" told me I could only use one finger of my right hand on the keyboard..  Speed tanked from an average rate of between 50 and 55 wpm to about 16 and that's on a good day after applying some CBD ointment on the wrist and hand.

I took 2 years of typing way back in high school and forgot everything by the time summer rolled around ,never relearned to touch type, I have to sit in my recliner to elevate my legs and keep my back from freaking out so the mouse is on the right arm rest and the keyboard rests on the left arm rest and my thigh ,my kids think it's hilarious , it gives me issues when using my drawing pad but I'm getting better with the mouse .I like the stickers for the keys cause they are BIGGER,been having issues seeing the difference between the comma and the period lately ,probably should get my eyes checked  ,but until I do the bigger lettering will help

...for Daz work, I use andergonomci trackball instead of a mouse. More accurate and a lot easier on the wrist and hand

Um... "andergonomici"?  Are you sure the accuracy is all you've claimed?devil  Sounds like the name for a bacteria.surprise  I'm guessing that should have been "an ergonomic"?

Yeah, I sat here and was scratching my head wondering WTH that means, then I saw it was a combined word. I thought it was some Greek or Latin word. I took medical terminology in college and it still didn't look right, lol.

I didn't know humans could throw poop like monkeys?  Just overheard someone talking about a person who is apparently doing that!  Wish I never heard that!

is that the one with the ball you use with your thumb to navigate? Cause that's what I have but I've just called it a mouse .... but I bought it when I first started using the computer ,cause the regular mouse made me nuts ( more then normal) and I was having issues with carpal tunnel from my job already. anyway whatever  it's called I like it
