Glad you have turned a corner. Get well soonest.
Every member (4) in the house were sick over the last week. Not sure if it's covid or not but it suddenly came on for me the day after Christmas and finally got over it New years day. Currently just have watery eyes and running nose. Been through 3 boxes of tissues in a little over a week. Nose is beat red and hurts like h+e+double hockey sticks. My youngest is home from college and got the same but he ran a temp of 101.5 and is just now getting over it. My oldest has the runny nose and coughing and the wife has all the same symptoms as you with a 102.1 temp. Her fever finally broke overnight, so hopefully this is all coming to an end. The only one that went to the Dr is the wife but because she ended up with a bladder infection of top of being sick so on antibiotics.
Edit to add: Come to find out my brother and his girlfriend were here for Christmas dinner and they weren't vaccinated, Fricking nice, I'm very high risk due to medical problems with breathing and other stuff and they knowingly came over without a thought in mind. Needless to say I wasn't happy and I let him know that.
...good to hear you are on the mend.
Had a couple days with throat congestion, sniffles and coughing but that's gone now. As I already have chronic fatigue didn't feel any more tired than I usually do. As I've been staying in a lot (due to the wet sometimes snowy cold weather) I haven't had much contact with other and when I had to go out always wore a face covering (have N-95s). Still being very cautious even though I am fully vaccinated.
...well had my mini adventure for the week yesterday, braving the heavy rain to deal with the phone issue. At least it warmed up to a little closer to normal (mid 40s instead of low to mid 30s). As the downtown Target (which is the authorised dealer/tech support outlet for Consumer Cellular) was downsized and no longer has a tech department, I had to go out to the one near PDX airport to get a new phone as I needed to have the SIM card and my account transferred over so I could keep the same number.
Ended up with a Motorola Moto that wasn't too terribly expensive (80$). There were cheaper ones but from companies I've never head of A few of the nice features of the phone is it is bigger than the old one (I can actually text with a bit more accuracy with my stiff arthritic hand) has a battery that holds a much longer charge, and has a "dark mode" which is much easier to look at.. Unfortunately not able to transfer anything from the old one until I can get a cable with a micro USB connector on both ends. There are ways to transfer files and utilities (like the contacts book) through a PC but it means downloading and installing different utilities and apps, easier just to get a new cable.
Ordered one of those shockproof cases that also has a screen protector as well. (looks a little futuristic military/cyber punk). So far so good as I've been getting texts and calls. Still need to do a bit more setup as now with Android 11 I can use my markets' apps again as well as my favourite weather app which no longer worked on the old phone. Was also able to find the same ringtone, a squeaky toy sound effect , as I like something more distinctive. So many people use either music as a ringtone (meh) or the old fashioned phone ring like I used to have. I love it when there is dog nearby and a call comes in.
I still cannot see paying hundreds for iPhone or Samsung even if I had the money (one of the Samsung's is 1,600$ a little more than what it cost me to build my main workstation). The price of one of iPhone models I saw would easily pay for my system upgrade.
So yeah an unexpected expense but fortunately not very "budget breaking".
@kyoto kid, which Motorola Moto? I've got the "Moto G7 Optimo" and I love it. Just the right size, price and capability. Front & back cameras of adquate resolution, fingerprint sensor, runs Android10. All good stuff
, except that the battery is non-user-replaceable
And it's getting to that age where battery lifetime is noticeably diminishing.![sad sad](https://www.daz3d.com/forums/plugins/ckeditor/js/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/sad_smile.png)
I recently helped a friend get a mobile phone really cheaply and the one sent to her is a "Moto E6". It's actually a pretty nice phone, but the E6 only supports up to Android9 which is already two generations old. But still has a replaceable battery.
She doesn't use the advanced Android features so Android9 is good enough for phone conversations. And I'd be happy with Android9 too, except for the fact that I had to switch to a phone with Android10 because my drugstore prescription app requires Android10. I have to use the app to request home delivery of my prescriptions. Can't do it through a PC or the phone. They gotta use their app.![frown frown](https://www.daz3d.com/forums/plugins/ckeditor/js/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/confused_smile.png)
'Nother non-complaint: Wheee..., just got my official notice of this year's Social Security benefits and fees. Yay! Monthly takehome has gone up about $90. Wheee...
Yes, there was an increase in Medicare & drug plan fees, but even after that I still come out $90/month ahead. First increase in years. Happy, happy, joy, joy. Now I can buy that island I've been drooling over.
Oh, wait, my spreadsheet shows that last year my average monthly expenses were about $150 greater than my income. Ah, ha! So THAT's why my saving account looked like it had a leak.
Forgive me if I don't do a few cartwheels celebrating my massive windfall. And I'm one of the lucky ones who worked long enough at high enough rates that my Social Security benefits are actually enough (if I'm careful) for me to live on adequately if not comfortably. Many receipients are not so fortunate. However, perhaps a solution to negative cash flow is to dam the flow.
No more mineral auctions, no more 'puter constructions, learn to eat wallpaper paste instead of vanilla pudding.
But I refuse to give up a good bottle of champagne (small "c") once or twice a year. Little luxuries help heal the doldrums.![enlightened enlightened](https://www.daz3d.com/forums/plugins/ckeditor/js/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/lightbulb.png)
Sadly once and if my disability ever goes through I'll be bringing in equivalent to half on a 2 week check a month because I was so young when I became disabled do to a car accident. The money I will get will afford a tent under a bridge with an wood burning stove in it. I'll be living in luxury for the homeless. My wife on the other hand will be bringing in about 2.5 times that much so we could get by. We'll use mine for the groceries and internet bill.
Some snow is on the way... I was hoping for a more impressive sunset... but all I got was a moody snow-sky one.
On the way back to my car I went to vault over the wooden railing on a boardwalk/pier thingie and the bottom half collapsed... I'm surprised I didn't get more banged up...
I probably looked like a pump hamster struggling to climb up on its exercise wheel instead of executing the smooth move I was planning...
In my defense, I'm kinda stupid because I did know the railing was pretty rickety... just not that rickety... actually I've done it dozens of times and it never broke before.
Well once... a little.
Ouch, hope you didn't get too bruised up. Gotta be more careful or your gonna break bones one of these times. Oh, next time you see that hamster grab him and overnight him to Daz so it can replace the one that is running their servers. The current ones must be slacking with the slow load times, 504's and 502 errors. Give him a bottle of grease as well to grease up that wheel.
i'm tempted to install and load one of the new Iray HDRI maps that I bought just to see how much RAM it uses.
This hamster?
...the Moto Pure which has the latest version of Android (11). Still doing some setup as I can finally get some apps I like back such as my favourite weather app and my grocery market apps that were updated a year or so ago and no longer supported 5.1(which was the "newest" version the old phone would support).
Crikey its lightning fast in comparison. Much better camera as well. I also like the fact it has a "dark mode" setting which is much easier on the eyes.
My only difficulty right now is using a custom image of mine as the wallpaper. I have the DeviantArt app installed but can't figure out how to save an image from there to to the phone's gallery. I tried using "screenshot" but that came out somewhat blurry. Still need to play around with that a bit more.
...yeah got a raise as well about 62$ so finally a little more "breathing room" financially. Of course there's also a rent increase effective in April but not as high as the last few ones were. So actually ahead of the game for once as I'm on a supplemental plan through my state that covers the Medicare premium charge as my benefits is still below the average.
well. we might just be out of the -30C (-22f) weather (with -35-41C (-35f to -41f windchills) by the weekend .. Its been cold like this since the 24th of December... currently -25C.(-13C)
You really need to find a way to market all that cold.
There are places in the world that need it.
There is already a marketplace perfect for that purpose, just mint a token for the cold and become a millionaire
Speaking of minting some cold, I found out more about that Norton crypto mining crap thing...
https://www.techdirt.com/articles/20220105/09301948232/norton-360-now-comes-with-crypto-mining-capabilities-sketchy-removal-process.shtml
They mention what I suspected, that probably with the energy costs and wear & tear on the equipment, that idle mining is actually a net loss for the customers, but given the 15% collection fee, a net gain for Norton (basically free money, since it's not their equipment or power) and given that it was initially an opt out process, there are probably tons of people mining for them that don't know it because they don't check on stuff like that and just click "Agree".
Where is everyone today... did y'all take a snow day?...
It snowed here... not that much, but I'm tired now.
I can't think of anything dumb to say so I'm just going to repost a random dumb image from my Art Studio collection...
That was from the early part of the pandemic, when toilet paper disappeared and I remembered that the Romans used to keep their but clean with sponges on a stick...
We have a different species of sponge around here that always washes up on the beaches, so I figured this could be a great business opportunity...
Well... this is boring... no good threads to interrupt with random nonsense and dumb jokes.
I'm going to outside and shout at squirrels.
I'm tired, but I don't know why?
Thought maybe it was a takeoff on today's 'Candy Floss' release
Yep, that's the one.
Because it was really cold and it snowed, I had to go to the beach again... so many less tourists this time of year.
It was a lot colder than that looks.
...I got onto the Norton Forums yesterday to sort more of this out and it's causing a pretty big stink there as well. Apparently not everyone gets the option as it is based on what GPU you have. it seems only those with an RTX generation card have the option while those of us with older even fairly powerful ones (like my old Titan-X that has 12 GB) are not supported, which is fine by me. As I've already ended up paying for the next year's subscription (the copy I ordered came 6 days late from when I should have received it) not about to uninstall given the price I paid. Most likely after I finally upgrade and install the 3060 the option will appear on the settings UI and I'll just leave it alone.
Yeah, you can tell by the penguins.
I have N360, and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX270 Super. It shows the mining message but I have no interest in that crap. They don't try to force it on you, so "pfft".
You see them too?!... Nobody else sees them... They talk too you know... they tell me things... bad things...
Mostly about buying NFTs and cryptocurrency... they never shut up about it.
...thanks, ""pfft"" is sort of my feeling as well. I've never had an infected system with Norton. Sometimes it gives a false positive, but what AV doesn't and it doesn't conflict with other sites.
I want a nap?
Just don't take one of mine.
Where did my Pom Pom maker go? Did it get thrown out?
