  • Complaint:  After having lost so much weight and it now being cold weather, I dug out my current leather biker jacket and it's way too big for me.blush  I bought it just a few years ago when I was about 240 pounds.  Now it hangs on me like a 10 pound overstretched sweater.frown  OK, no problem, I switch back to my favorite biker jacket from the old days, right?.  But it's still too small for me.sad  So, I can either go out in my old jacket unzipped, and cold.  Or I can go out with a warm zipped leather jacket that makes me look like a deflated cow.

I'm the one expected to add water to the aquarium when water is lost due to evaporation.  Loki and Summers use the excuse that they have fins instead of hands.  The snail's excuse is that they don't have hands or fins.

Ugh... I guess I never realized this before, but another thing to add to the list of why the forum software is the crappiest software possible...

It doesn't remember post dates once the year changes... so now like all December posts are now generic "December" posts... no individual dates like 15th, 20th, etc... If DAZ paid money for this software they were completely ripped off...

I can go to websites with posts from the early 00s and still see what date it was made... that's just so lame.

Its just a little nothing detail, but it's also so basic... I only noticed because I was looking for something from last week and realized everything was "December" now... I knew it did that for really really old posts (which is still lame), but I guess I never noticed it deletes the dates immediately after new year... why?

Blechhh...:  Miserable night, went to bed at 9:00 PM, woke up about 8 times during the night, tossing, turning, sweating, peeing.  The latter has turned a miserable night into a celebratory incident because this morning I weighed-in at 199.4.  Wheee... under 200 pounds for the first time in decades!smiley  I was 160 pounds when I was about 19 in college  I took-up body-building and struggled to get up to 180, then 190.  I was so hot! (yes, I had a mirror addiction).  But then life threw me a curve and I slacked off, but after another decade, I got back into weights again and pushed my way up to 200, 210 and finally to 220 where I peaked at a deliciously bedable and lickable 223 and even entered some contests (without significant winningssad)  Then age started to peek into the situation and I slacked off again, and kept eating like a body-builder but was living the life of a couch potato and came perilously close to 250 pounds (249.8) of lard in a sack.  Not a good combination.  I freaked out when I saw 250 on the map again about a year ago and just started eating less and eating more wisely.  I'd hate to give up my couch potato life by forcing my old bones & joints into action again.  They already scream enough as it is.   It's taken me at least a full year to lose the 50 pounds, nice and slow.  This method has worked for me.  Your milage may vary.

I think the thing that most distressed me most about my excess weight was my fat fingers.  I've always been a pianist and have always been proud of my strong, lithe, elegant fingers.  But when they started looking like sausages I knew it was time to do something about it.  And of course the fat ankles, droopy jowls, and permanent tire around my waist weren't desirable either.  I'm almost thin enough now that I can get into my favorite leather jacket again.  Wheee...  Just another 10 pounds.  190 here I come.enlightened

...interesting outcome.  Are you still feeling symptoms or are they gone?  There have been reports of the usually annual flu making a comeback. Anyway, congratulations.

I was skinny as a rail (between 160 and 170) into late 40s and still had the appetite of a 17 year old. Then suddenly age caught up to me and now at about 210 - 215.   With the achy joints and bones about the only exercise that isn't terribly painful is walking however even that lately is becoming a challenge, particularly when it's cold rainy ad windy like it's been the last couple weeks.

...ugh, think my phone finally died.  Worked fin yesterday but when I turned it on today to check messages all I got was the manufacturer's screen and I couldn't turn it off without opening it and removing the battery.

The battery wasn't discharges as after putting it on the charger when i got home form the market I received the signal that the battery was fully charged a few minutes later.

I opened it up removed the battery and let it sit for a while then put it back together and turned it on after which the battery charging screen appeared which indicated it had a 97% charge  After that closed I tried starting it up again only to get the same situation as earlier.. Going to have to brave the foul weather tomorrow to go to Target (as I'm on Consumer Cellular) and get it looked at.. Really can't afford a new phone right now.

Body aches were less yesterday (Monday) than they were on Saturday and Sunday, but the fever went up another degree to 99.6 (my normal temp is 97.6, one degree less than typical).  Also I've started developing a sore throat and thick, gloppy, grayish phlegm.  Sleeping last night was better.  Only woke up twice, fever broke and I'm down to 98.4 this morning on the way back to my "normal".  It could have been a flu thing or just a cold.  I have not gotten the normal flu shot this year but am fully vaccinated and boosted for Covid.

My opinion is that two days before I had any symptom that something was brewing I'd been with two different people who had been around friends who had the Omicron variant of Covid.  I also went to an OliveGarden restaurant with one of the friends, so I had not been completely isolated.  And since the gestation period for Omicron is about 2 days I figure it's likely that, or just a random cold.  Also my neighbors in the other half of the house (where we share the air) had already been hacking and coughing for a week.

I'm still taking it easy and getting lots of rest and fluids but I seem to be on the mend, as long as I get through the sore throat and gloppy, gray phlegm phase OK.indecision

Non-complaint:  Also, my weight this morning was down another pound to 198.5.  So now, I'm firmly in the 190s.  Doctor wants me to get down to 170, I'd be happy to reach 180.  However, I expect that after I get well, my weight will zip back up a pound or two or three, but I know how to handle that now.  But I'm running out of appendages.surprise

Thank you Frank, that's good to know.

Unfortunately that's not an option on a tablet or mobile device, but if I ever need to find a post date I'll use my laptop or computer... also, hopefully I'll remember this and not be sitting there going "Why did I switch to the laptop?"... which I'll probably do.

Not that I'm not greatful for you sharing that, but that is a weird feature... what I thought initially was a odd feature to save data, turns out to be a weirder feature to hide data... I used to go through that with engineers and industrial designers a lot in my first model making job... "why is this "feature" a feature?"

This reminds me of a device housing I made that had a counter with an opaque cover over the numbers... the cover flipped up to show the counter dials underneath, so I figured they mistakenly specified an opaque material instead of a clear material and when I notified the client they confirmed it was opaque... so I was like "why?... then you can't see the dials" and they were like "that's why the cover opens... when it's on, you open the cover"... and I was like "Doesn't that defeat the purpose of covering the dials?"... and they were like "the cover keeps the dials clean"... and I was like "then make it clear"... and they were like "then the cover might eventually get dirty and you might not be able to see the dials"... and I was like "well... maybe not clearly, but you'd still see them and know they were there"... and they were like "the other indicators and controls have clear polycarbonate covers"... and I was like "Ooooh okay."... Because as an answer that made no frickin' sense at all... like there was a magical clear to opaque ratio they needed to preserve... so I figured it wasn't worth asking anymore questions because when you ask "why is that opaque?" And the person responds "banana yogurt", there really isn't much to add to that conversation.

And even though that's not exactly the same thing, and I don't know code, and I'm assuming it's a feature the software came with...  it seems to me an extra step for some reason to add code to obscure something that was there for a reason to begin with... like I could understand if it was deleting the date altogether because by doing so you were saving memory space... it would be a small amount comparatively, but maybe that would be some weird mindset holdover from ancient software that might have need to do that?... So I'll make up a good reason... I guess the area doesn't have the space for the year and date? Maybe?... I'm really hoping that the answer isn't "banana yogurt"...

Oh, well... I still pity anyone who has to deal with maintaining this software and keeping it from self destructing.

Thanks again for the info on how to reveal the date.

I put a cherry flavored candy cane in my coffee.  I thought it would work since the traditional peppermint flavor ones help the coffee.  It didn't work.  So I decided to put a pack of hot cocoa in it.  Then I remember we have oranges so I decided to make a home made frap with that coffee, the oranges, and a banana.  Oops I forgot I put in a chocolate pudding.  That helped make the drink taste better.

A normal is a unit vector orthogonal to an entity. In other words, it a line one unit long that sticks out from whatever it is normal to (usually a polygon or vertex). A normal map uses colours to specify a differnt direction for the line, and the surface at that point is lit as if it was facing in that direction instead of its real facing direction.

And normalization is something you do to a database.  You can also normalize an audio wave form.  But those are two different things.  wink

I'm pretty sure Norton 360 isn't worth any money.

...it is if you are on Windows, particularly W7.  I have yet to experience an infection on my system (and I I perform regular scans) with Norton and other anti malware utilities..  I've had malware infections in the past when I used MS Defender or MacAfee.

I quit using Norton about 15 yrs ago cause it was causing to many conflicts with some of the software we were using at the time. I know its not a problem now but it's getting pretty expensive anymore. I just use Avast which I think we are gonna get rid of and try something else. I just haven't found one yet that I know has a good track record with catching things. Avast does really good but they are getting pricey and pushy to add extra features to your plan which is why we are getting rid of it. I'm really tired of getting a add twice a day from them pop up on my computer to "add this to your plan and save" Yeah I am going to save, but uninstall you butt and not renewing.

I use AVAST and like it. However, if you want to change, the paid version of MalwareBytes would be a good alternative. If you catch it on sale it is not too expensive.

I've been using MalwareBytes for about 5 years now.  Have used Avast and Norton at different times in the past, and only left those when they borked my systems.

Norton's biggest sins were that it slowed down disk access because every file had to be scanned upon opening, saving, closing, moving, whatever.  Some apps can open dozens and dozens of files just upon initialization.  Oh, and when Norton nerf'd SpeedDisk, that's when I finally decided to cut the cord.

I would think they did it this way to reduce the amount of data immediately thrown at users - if it's an old post you are not usually going to care about the exact hour, while for one of today's posts you do, so they have it set to round to two siginificant digits.

There was I nice sunset, so I stopped by the beach on the way home...

Too bad there was a 17°F wind chill... Freakin' cold it was.

Also, I just noticed the deer around here are pretty fat...

The fatness is probably due to the humans that feed them... in case you can't read the sign in the middle of where the deer are eating the food that the humans left for them... it says, "Notice: It Is Illegal To Feed The Deer"... Its literally where people leave the food all the time... like they have such contempt for the rule, they will only feed the deer there.

Possibly, but considering how often 4 year old material is referenced I don't think the advantage of a couple of fewer numbers would be significant.  After all, the bandwidth occupied by any photo on the page completely obliterates any savings found by deleting a few bytes of numbers.indecision

Well, I would think that most people wouldn't care if it was 9:30 PM or 1:22 AM, if it was a year old post, but "November 20, 2021" is more useful than "November 2021"...

Looking at the area, it looks like all the info probably wouldn't fit anyway...

I suppose I'm used to seeing the info placed like this...

      Or like this...

Placing it in the same area as the avatar leaves less room I guess...

It's just a formatting thing I suppose... that the software only gives you so much room in certain places...

I did check out the hovering feature though... and it works real well...

I also noticed if you hover over your avatar it reveals personal secrets about you...

Apparently the longer you hover the more embarrassing and personal the facts become...

Still not sure how it knows about the goat and the pantomime giraffe thing... but I suppose it's a cool feature.

I remember a few years ago when a few companies did that covertly without permission, burying any mention in the EULA... sneaky crap.

I thought that "idle mining" stuff was over with because the requirements for mining have become so intense... or maybe your computer becomes part of a network of computers?

Either way, it's a garbage proposal.

EDITED TO ADD... I looked into that a bit... it seems like most of the people using it aren't all that sure what they are doing and a few seem disappointed that what they are making seems to be less than they expected (a few dollars a day)... it also seems like you mine the coin and Norton holds it for you... But I'm not finding if they take a cut for the their efforts.

Geez, I remember Tron... I thought that was the coolest looking movie when it came out... I remember seeing it a bunch of times when I was a kid... mainly because sitting in a cool movie theater on a hot summer day was a cheap way of spending time and not sweating to death.

A few years ago I saw the movie again after not seeing it since its original release... it did not age as well as I thought.

Still... it was inspiring in its day.

The CGI, not the people in the weird glow costumes... that just looked like they were wearing black light/fluorescent pajamas.

I ditched Norton and FSecure both for using way too much resources and hindering my working with MY computer, been using Avast together with Yandex browser at home and the combination has not failed me yet. Used Avast some 10+ years and Yandex for maybe 4 years.

Ended up with Yandex when Google started requiring acceptance of their conditions, even when not logging in and doing simple searches with the search engine, none of the available (more known) alternatives provided the service I was looking, until I realized there was a huge non-english speaking community east of us that had to have some means of searching throught the online content. Found their search engine that in my opinion was/is better than Google and soon started using their browser as well, the only thing I miss are the higher resolution satellite images in Google Maps.

Sites that have suspect content and open without any complaints on FF and Chrome, will be blocked and although given the option to continue, the user is made very aware that it is not necessarily a good idea to do so.

  • Non-complaint:  Almost back to "normal".  After dealing with this malady for almost 5 days I've come to the conclusion that it's turning out to be just a simple cold.  Yes a "corona" virus, but not "The Corona Virus".  My neighbors all have colds and we share the air in the building so....

My symptoms now are typical for the stage where the nose dripping turns into grey/green goop, and Kleenex use goes up 200% more.  My temperature is stable at 1 degree above my normal temp.  Aches and pains have pretty much subsided, just dealing with red, raw, globbed up nose, and minor periodic hacking to clear my throat of accumulated gobs.  Blech....sad

I'm not as tired has I have been the last couple of days.  No trouble sleeping, but then I do take a half dose of "NyQuil" at bedtime (blech, what a terrible way to get your alcohol dosecheeky)
