D|S 4.7 Pro "Free for a limited time only", showing up in my product list. Does that mean it'll disappear from the product library when the time runs out, or will it stop running after a while and ask for a license?

Also wondering if I can set it up (And InterPoserPro) to read runtimes from a USB drive instead of my computer, since I don't have the space to put these things on my laptop.
Was some tool for converting the new files into Poser-compatible formats, DSON Importer? Aaah can't really think right now eee.

No, once you buy it it stays in your Product Library.

Yes, you can have your content on a USB drive, just make sure it's attached whenever you launch DS, and that it keeps the same drive letter.

What I meant was if I download and install it right now, while it says "Free for a limited time", and launch it later when that offer expires... Would I still be able to use it? Or is this a "Try it free for a short period" sort of offer - in which case I'm wondering why it threw all this stuff into the Product Library along with the program if it's just going to vanish later when the Free Offer ends.

Daz Studio Pro been free for the last few years.

older versions of DS get de-activated in the product library.

Why does it say 'for a limited time' then? *Is confused*

And a bunch of other things popped up into my library magically too (Some starter set things, a few tools, etc...)

Plug-ins that work in 4.5+ should work in 4.8. The reverse isn't always true, but they have been careful to keep backward compatibility. However, if you install 4.8 beta you will almost certainly need to reinstall your plug-ins and shaders (assuming this is your first 4.5+ public beta) to place the necessary files in the application folder.

Why do restaurants put ice into cold drinks?

My mother and father ran a small gas station & restaurant when I was a kid. My mother used to say that the ice was the biggest money maker they had. More ice = less soda. I guess electricity was cheap back then.

So there's less drink, and thus more profit for them!

I hope they haven't changed their minds about DS Pro being free. It will mean a stop to new versions for me. Which will mean a stop to new content as well.

wasted a whole hour installing, uninstalling and reinstalling tax software on dad's computer. He didn't like the the interface so he asked me to uninstall and reinstall the software. Pointless. How would reinstalling software change the menu to his liking?

Its like me reinstalling Carrara because I don't like the blue background. Maybe installing it again will change the colors of the toolbar. Ahh.

edit: uh, some of the buttons in Carrara are blue but the background in Carrara is bluish grey. :red:

Lunch! Feeling better so I got some mild Mexican (chicken sour cream and guac burrito) and some fried okra "for later".

Nibbling slowly and sipping some of my remaining beer.. some Sam Adams Irish Red I had left from the weekend. Very tasty! Differenbt from the Smithwicks but both are equally good. :cheese:

Yum, smothered in melted cheese and topped with lettuce and tomato! Almost healthy... :smirk:

Aahhh the whole "Parents don't understand computers" thing :P

Fraid that doesn't hold true with my family. My dad is the reason I'm into computers and 3D stuff (He was a software developer himself, and a pretty good one at that) and my grandpa works with Windows 8 and the fancy smartphone things faster than the rest of my family - teenagers included (ANd he's what, 70 something now?)

Uncle is also pretty good with software and computers, does most of the deeper tech stuff for us, and even wrote his own rendering engine for Art of Illusion from scratch. (And it works too)

Technology tends to run in the family :)
(Though I could argue that I'm closer to the hopeless side of the spectrum *shrugs*

I suppose that "technology running IN the family" is better than "technology running the family"!

Personally, I've been in computers since '67 but the older I get the more I hesitate to use the "latest & greatest". I'll probably be on my deathbed typing an urgent e-mail from my 20 year old computer asking for help because the only phone in the house is really a camera with a graphic interface that I am totally clueless about and nobody will ever get my plea because their e-mail goes straight to the bit bucket*. 8-s To address this possibility I've thought of rigging a network of cans & string to the neighbors.

*"bit bucket" -- in the early days of computing, input was from punched tape or punched cards. The tiny bits of material ("chad") punched out of the tape or cards fell into a removable container (the "bit bucket") to be discarded when full.

...was in a pub yesterday with a friend, I asked the barkeep if we could watch some sports (there was some pop concert network on with the sound muted at the time). She reached back and hands me this thing which looked like it had more buttons on it than my notebook computer has keys. I shrugged and half jokingly replied. "I don't have any idea of how to use that, I'm used to getting up to change the channel (making he motion with my hand of turning a dial) or pressing the button on top of the cable box get to the channel I want."

When I last had a telly and cable, I think there were like 75 channels (including the "premium" ones like HBO, Cinemax, and Showtime) to choose from. Yesterday I was seeing numbers in the 700s & 800s. She ended up finding the basketball game were were looking for on some odd channel in the "700s" called "TruTV" .Whatever happened to the "big three" networks or even the likes of ESPN and TBS?

i do not like to watch tv as most of it is stupid. i also do not like getting into the middle of a program which ends up confusing me unless it is a panthers game and i can see the score.

There are a lot of sports channels. A dedicated channel is better than taking the chance that your preferred game happens to be on ESPN. Even ESPN has several channels. Baseball has its own...MLB Network, mlb.com, too. There might be one for football and one for basketball. Who knows? Somebody, but not me. I have a sports package as part of my subscription to Comcast/Xfinity, but only because it comes with the package I have, not because I asked for it. I don't think I've ever watched a single program on any of them. I don't even know what channel numbers they're on. There are a lot of Music Choice channels, too. They actually play music, and sometimes videos. Whatever happened to the old music channels? MTV plays a lot of reality crap. VH1 plays a lot of documentaries...or it did the last time I checked. As for the big three...they're blocked half the time. Your game may or may not be on.

The "limited time" just means they may decide to no longer allow new people to get it for free. If you got it when it was free it stays free, just like the weekly freebies.

...stepped out yesterday evening for a while in search of a place to get a couple pints of Guinness and a Powers Irish whiskey. sadly none of the pubs in the neighbourhood seemed to be in the spirit> Ther was an IRish themed pub a bit of a walk away but didn't feel like walking too far (drizzly night) So I end up at the Karaoke joint where they were having specials on Guinness, Harp, and Irish Whiskey. OK maybe we'll get a couple of the good singers to show up to sing a few Irish tunes old an or new.

Not on your life. Seemed like it was more "St. Rapper's Day" instead of St. Patrick's Day as Rap mixes seemed to outnumber songs with actual melody & harmony. I think in the entire time I was there heard only two "Irish" influenced songs (one by the Pogues and another by Flogging Molly).

Not being an Irish tenor myself, couldn't put in my two Punts worth, musically speaking.

...so much for tradition I guess.

Yeah, MTV became "Empty-V". I remember when along with the music vids they still had cool animation shows like Aeon Flux and The Maxx. Others I used to like such as The History Channel and Discovery have changed for the worse as well as I understand
