So what alternate ethnicity would you have anticipated being included with a character that is loosely based on British mythos? What flaws would you expect her to have? How do you think she should have deviated from how the lady of the lake has traditionally been portrayed in art? Would "water nymph with bad skin" really be a big seller?
Well for starters, I wasn't aware that the Lady of the Lake was traditionally displayed with a cartoonishly large head ;-P But I digress. The point of my post, and I think that was pretty clear, was not that her skin isn't fitting for what she is supposed be, but that that particular pale, unblemished skin is all too common in DAZ major figure releases in general. Oh it fits what I expect when I hear 'Lady of the Lake', but I certainly wasn't in need of a character I can use as a 'water nymph'. Because I can use almost every other character in my library for that. (to be fair, when I hear 'Ninive' specifically, I do expect a bunch of ruins, but I guess that wouldn't make for a very good character set)
Also, I don't think that the alternative to unblemished, pale skin must necessarily be 'bad skin'.
All that being said, is there really only one way to adept a character from a myth? Is it so impossible to have a Merlin without a beard, a freckled Nimue, a black Heimdall or a brunette Siegfried? I mean, I understand that DAZ isn't really in the business of upsetting artistic standards, but is any slight subversion already bound to horribly fail financially? And what about the customers? Do we really care that much more about our preconceptions being met than the quality and variety of the products we are offered? Yeah, a 'water nymph' with bad skin would probably not do so well, but is that because people don't want 'bad skin' or because 'bad skin' would not be adequate for 'water nymph'? If this character had really high quality textures, but slightly freckled skin, or a more caramel skin tone, would people go: "yeah, I really like the quality of those textures, but the 'Lady of the Lake' can't have freckles / darker skin, so I'm not buying?
DAZ is pretty much just in the business of selling things that other people create. The majority of the creative work is done by PA's and they do what pleases them aesthetically and financially. I don't think that the PA's are trying to create artistic standards so much as being true to who they are. Does everyone have to like all the work the PA's do? Not so much. Most PA's (and again remember this work is done by the PA's and not DAZ most of the time) look at projects with an eye to financially reasonablity for themselves and what will they enjoy working on. Does that system work out for every customer? No because people are different and they have different goals and aesthetics. But it does make the work more fun (and when your doing something 16 hours a day the fun part counts for something) for the PA's. It really helps if you like what your working on. That is one reason that DAZ makes so much open ended for the PA's. Your more likely to get work out of creative types that way.
It's one reason I like Skin Overlay, which can add acne or freckles.
(Uv is limited, but still)
Actually, this is the first white skin that is truly" pale skined" for G2F from Daz. They have 3 pale-ish for G2F. Aiko, Lilith and Giselle. Somewhat with Belle and Keiko, though not "complete" anatomically. Giselle is also not anatomically complete. The rest are average. This is that true type of "pale" white with a slight pinkish hue and that particular glow. The others have, in marker color terms, eggshell mixed in. So, I am happy to get this texture. I have been wanting this type of skin. Take a look at the pictures I have included. Compare. I didn't include a picture of Callie because her skin is a toon style.
continuing with the rest.
and the end.
I started to list them in order. I clicked on a wrong file so I just went on from there in order of file list rather than chronologically.
I forgot the Anna add on.
She is noticeably fairer than most of the other girls. But really..how much sun would you get at the bottom of a lake?
So long as there is at least one version without eye makeup, I'll be happy. It's a pale enough base to be able to point it in any other direction for aliens or whatever, and she's fine for a glimmering spirit vision as she stands.
Yeah, too pale is usually cool for coloring as desired. The big fail point there is for some dark skin, where you need to have more color variation.
FYI, for those of you complaining that she has a big head, this is easily fixed with the 'Head Propagating Scale' morph under Head/Real World. Just reduce it until it shrinks to your ideal head size. I had that morph set to -0.05 for my previous render, so it doesn't take much. There are also Neck Size and Neck Length morphs under Neck/Real World if necessary.
(However, I'm not sure if these morphs are included in the Genesis 2 base or if you need the Genesis 2 morphs...)
I would love to see what she looks like with a normal sized head. =-)
For http://willbear.deviantart.com/art/Ninive-Nuit-534743928 , I used head propagating scale -5%, which worked out nicely, I think.
And I hear you guys about imperfections. I prefer characters looking imperfect and flawed, and REAL.
Like age and wrinkles: http://willbear.deviantart.com/art/Ninive-2-534624141
Or not waifs: http://willbear.deviantart.com/art/Song-to-the-Moon-534561088
Or just a fairly 'no makeup' raw looking face: http://willbear.deviantart.com/art/Luyeva-Siljean5-534349721
If this character is supposed to be 'not human' would love to see more 'not human' skin textures. I particularly like Lady of the lake texture. The rest look human.

required products don't mention Ninive? i'se so confused
well, there be 30 days to return it right?
I don't know if anyone provided a render but I thought I'd keep in practice and make you a 3delight render of Laurian: I used a "Gleam" light and a random makeup...
Here's quick render of Larian in 3DE using that specific make-up. She does render beautifully in 3DE. I have yet to try it in Iray.
EDITED: Below is a quick render in IRAY. I stopped it at 43%.
Just a quick Iray render of Larian with a few adjustments...
Larian comes with normal mats. They rendered her in Iray, but she's set up for normal render settings.
That's because they used my original upload text, but not the original promos. And there was no page for Ninive at that point.
thanks :) your promos look elegant
in the zoom can appreciate her facial details.
fantasia outfit is one of my favies. psyched to try it on her.
@gypsyangel
what outfit did you use in the previous 3 images (the blue one, the green one and the gray+golden one) ?
(looks a bit like centigrade but i don't recognise the gray/gold and green colors...)
It is Centigrade. I duplicated then changed the coloring on the blue one to green, and the silver and gold were done with Dirty Pretty Shaders for DAZ Studio by parrotdolphin available at rendo.
@gypsyangel
thx for the reply, you are a great source of inspiration and....of learning too especially for a newby like myself.
May I ask some other questions?
what is this long hair?
how do you change the color from blue to green for centigrade
(btw, I love this centigrade outfit)
and dirtypretty shaders is a great addition to get tons (I mean TONS) of textures for ALL YOUR outfits in only 1 buy
Oh...thanks. :)
I changed the color in Photoshop. It's not hard...just use the Hue Saturation option and adjust it until you get something you like. Green isn't a big leap from blue, so it didn't take much adjustment at all. Just make sure when you do that, you use a copy of the texture, not the original. For a quick and dirty render, you can throw an addition to the name...say bluetop.jpg becomes bluetop-bu.jpg, then use the original name on your adjusted color texture so it just loads when the mat for the blue top is applied. Otherwise you can make a mat file for the new color adjustment if you think you're going to want to use it again.
No I don't mind questions. I may not have the answers, but I'll always try to answer questions. I'm not that good in Studio. I'm a Poser kid, myself...But I'm Forest Gumping my way through it.
Hair is:

Another 3DeLight render. She's tricky to light. You'd think that as pale as she is, she'd wash out. But no. I had to up the ambients by a third and double the sun light. It washed out part of the costume, but she came through pretty much as I wanted her.
The light set is one of FlipMode's easy Environment sets. I think either Winter or the new Snowy Mountains one.
yep, she's a keeper :)
3de, i used the oot light set came with Fiends forever g2m.
(i put a mostly nude of her on my da)
