I'm not seeing how any of these "new faces" qualify for a "version 6" moniker. Lilith 6? Where are 1-5? It's understandable they're based on V6, but Vicky started as Vicky, then walked the road from V2-V5 and then V6. She didn't start at "6", and I don't see where these others should. Even The Girl started at "The Girl" when Vicky was at "3". She's walked her way up to The Girl 6 legitimately.
I'm also not seeing why we're getting so many completely new standalone characters instead of just character add-on morphs for G2.
fey faces :)
It's marketing.
These are stated as being new character bases, because DAZ can ship them with at least one product bundle each.
Mind you, there've been specific content bundles that were just themed content for Victoria or Michael, but I doubt that they were the big sellers that the new character-based bundles always were. For one thing, the themed bundles usually included older content, which isn't a draw for anyone who already owns it. The new character+content formula is all new stuff and rather a lot of people are interested in it. Sometimes for the character, sometimes for the other content, sometimes for both. In any case they sell, and DAZ is in the business to sell things.
It's getting harder to justify, though. Most of the obvious physical "types" are already represented, certainly for female "types" and so we're beginning to see something that looks a lot like repeats. I'm a bit surprised that with all the grousing about the "girl of the month" releases that DAZ hasn't started filling some of the obvious gaps on the male side. But perhaps the issue isn't deciding what gaps to fill, but what kind of content to try to put together to create a viable bundle.
I don't mind N representing a certain level of resolution/generation/etc.
If you have Brutusandro, and he's on par with MIchael 6, by all means, make Brutusandro 6.
I WILL say that I'm kind of iffy about new models, generally, unless they do something radically different. I like Ninive, but I wouldn't have bothered if it hadn't come with cool hair and outfits.
Seconded — before Genesis, almost every non-toon, non-anime, non-critter character was specified as a morph of one of the Big Four "normal" Unimesh bases; Victoria, Michael, Steph Petite, and David. Now, with totally new "base" characters coming out about every month or so, we're up to our ears in them. It's just too much; there are a bunch of characters in the store I'd like to buy, but they all depend on one or the other of the new horde of (much more expensive) bases that I'm unlikely to buy until/unless DAZ puts them out on a really good sale. I have got a few of the Generation 6 bases like that over the last few months, but nowhere near all of them. I just can't afford it. I especially can't afford all the new huge bundles that come with them
I splurged at the end of last year and caught up with the Gen6 figures (having skipped the 4s and 5s), and a few of the "characters" for Gen6/G2F. Including the HD versions, I have almost 50 "different" G2-based female figures. Of those, I have not found any where I'd say "it's the same as so-and-so, but with different hair".
I have seen character morphs listed that look identical to others, and avoid them for that reason, regardless of what they come with.
I know Daz is in the business of selling products, but like it or not, the End User - the Customer - is important, and you can't throw together random bundles and expect us to jump on them. Quality over Quantity. To make it worse, whenever you add one of these new figures, G2F Base gets a new dial for that character, so it becomes redundant. Then the question becomes "can you sell more character morph injections for $10 each than you would individual character bundles for $40 each?"
Call them "Fae" faces all you want, but Thorne's work has always seemed to me to focus too much on a nude or under-clad pre-pubescent female figure. It's flat-out creepy IMO.
As far as I can see, to all intents and purposes Ysabeau is basically just a Thorne character morph with new skins. She relies on the base Gen2 UV maps, so I don't really see how shes that much different from the character morphs designed for V6 or M6 etc. I agree that I dislike the abundance of new character bases that come with new UV maps (Gia, Lilith, Stephanie, Olympia etc), because it makes compatibility a big issue, but in Ysabeau's case I don't see the same problem.
I think character morph products are a good thing though because they provide variety without adding new compatibility issues.
For those saying that she looks too young. Have you seen actresses like Mila Kunis or Sarah Hyland or Alyson Hannigan or Alexis Bledel? Some people do just have a naturally young look to them (lucky sods!). She has an adult physique, so really shes only as young as you imagine her to be. The fact that shes fey-stylized adds to her youthful look, but I don't think it goes as far as Belle or Josie. In fact, she looks a lot like a friend of mine and she's 23.
You may find that most new characters load nude until you dress them :D It's not limited to Thorne's work ^^
Ninive looks decent as an old, frail woman, if you apply the right aging stuff.
Here's Ninive as a late middle aged woman: http://willbear.deviantart.com/art/Ninive-2-534624141
(who does magic)
My point being that while a lot of characters may look young, it's not terribly hard to apply morphs, and having more character models gives you a variety of starting points.

Har har dee har har. You may find that most new characters also don't look like 12-year olds.
