...that too. I've accidentally missed using my Daz+ coupons because of that.
Well, yeah, they're not gonna discount the shiny new toys that much this early! Lots of people are sticking with G8 for now so a good deal for those people :)
...I actually picked it up for I believe 8.99$ last month.
...as to old prices of PC content. I remember frequently getting PC items at 99¢ so likely that meant such sales occurred more often than today and thus easy for memory to be blurrred 15 years later,
Missed that one, so thanks for flagging... Probably missed it due to the time it takes to log on these days!
...trying to find a "new release" that is around 5$ for the DAZ-O-2023 coupon is more than a challenge. About the only items that would fall in that price area are Daz+ ones but most are either 1¢ short (4.99$) or 6$ - 19$. Then the question is," do I really need or will I ever use it in a scene?" On top of that, most of the new releases are for G9 (And will only get worse as the weeks go on) which If you are not into G9, limits the selection even more.
Am I a bit picky? Yes, I have to be on a pensioner's budget and with prices for everything increasing (not just here) need to get the most I can. I'm not the only one here in that dinghy either.
Well, I've been waiting for a gift card sale and there is one today; but the discounts are less than exciting. I may pass and just not purchase much from DAZ.
At this point I am both excited and very nervous about 2023's March Madness...
Boy, rising prices and falling discounts. I was like "whoa, gift card sale", then "oh, spend $200 for 12%". Thank you, but no. I tend to hold on to my store credit longer now. So I want a bigger incentive for (a) giving DAZ my money upfront and (b) setting myself in a much more impulse-buying mood.
Playing with Stable Diffusion on Google Colab currently. Costs me approx $15 (a month). Spending more time with that than with studio at the moment. Completely different thing of course. But I am a hobbyist. And it is not written in stone that I have to stick to Studio and buying expensive assets forever.
I still think this marketing strategy could backfire especially for newbies who will buy one new expensive item and then splurge on sales for super cheap G8 products and quickly discover how much better G8 is than G9. I own tons of G8 stuff and still splurge on more when it's super cheap giving me more incentive to just stick to G8. The better strategy would have been to introduce G9 products with ridiculously discounted intro prices so people would buy into it and leave G8 prices as is to discourage sales of older products and hopefully get people hooked on G9. But I don't work for DAZ marketing (although I'd secretly like to lol.)
@Wonderland That doesn't make any sense to me. They could give away half the new releases for free daily, I still wouldn't switch to G9, nor would that make me buy items I don't want. On the contrary, the best way to make me buy them is to unlock deals on old items, ending up with a cart price per item that I'm happy with, which makes the buy in insignificant. As much as I dislike the "when you buy", it often works.
Well, that's because you don't want them at all. I'm sure many would be curious and jump to play with the new shiny toys if they were super cheap. And then they'd get used to it and forget all about their older product. If the G9's had been as cheap as the G8s were for $2.00-$3.00 I definitely would have stocked up and be more willing to continue with it (if I could get the results I want without a ridiculous amount of effort.) Those sales just made me less likely to play with G9 and focus more on all the newly purchased G8s.
Even Gift card discounts feel pretty meh.
Down to 12% off a $200 gift card
Easy decision to make. Nope.
Cheers to a good deal! Jeers to logon issues.
I thought the same.
If that happened and I liked the offerings, I would buy some stuff. I mean, if/when I start to see G9 stuff emerge that I want or care about, I'll add G9 to my library. Until then, I haven't even downloaded the essentials. There is enough free stuff now that it might make sense to do that, but I haven't got around to it yet. Someday? It's ok to skip a generation, too.
I don't really understand the the switching issue. Like others here, I have stuff strewn over several generations of figure. I use them as they are. It's interesting that I could make V4 stuff work on G8 and vice versa, but I have V4 people who can still use the V4 gear. And the G8 people have enough of their own gear that I can't see going to the effort. Props and hair get traded a lot. That's just a matter of parenting. But I'm not sold on some of the finer points of adapting everything to a particular generation.
Just not finding the offers or discounts enticing, but feeling better about my spending last week and last weekend
I couldn't make use of the "captivating" new release sale, because there were only 8 applicable items and they seemed random.
Originally I had a great idea for the Extra 70% off for a New Release over $20. I was going to buy the Fiona 9 Bundle as the New Release, and then get the G8F head morphs (which I've needed for a while) plus the Victoria 9 Intro bundle plus the Gen 9 starter essentials expansion so my Victoria and Fiona could have all their "parts". Overall it was like a $200 cart for like $88.
But the problem I ran into is...do I really want to invest in Gen 9 at this point? When I compare Gen 3 to Gen 8 I can see a drastic difference in style -- Gen 3 looks more cartooney to me whereas Gen 8 looks more realistic. And while Gen 9 characters do look nice, really they just seem like really nice (and expensive) gen 8 characters.
Plus I'm iffy on whether or not Gen 8 stuff will fit on Gen 9s. I tried out some G8 stuff on my G9 Belle the other night. I got Haydina Hair to work on her pretty well, but then I tried an Emo Outfit, which didn't work at all.
I think it seems almost dumb that Gen 8 stuff doesn't automatically fit on Gen 9 characters at first, but then from a business perspective, it would be against Daz's interests to have G8 stuff fit G9 characters, because they probably make a decent chunk of their profit on apparel and hairs and stuff. So I don't see cross-compatibility being high on Daz's priority list.
I don't know if I'm ready to embrace G9 quite yet, is the point, which I think at least one other person has already said. Though I do want to take advantage of this sale, because I need that head morph to make my Nena G8F I got from Renderosity to work properly. :D
I'm only buying G9 stuff that is not a female or male... I'm lovin' RawArt's creatures that G9 can be 'morphed into'... Hope other PAs follow suit. I'm done with female/male characters... my runtime is full to the brim with them and lacy underwear... lol
...I've been pretty "choosy" for years as I've always been on a somewhat tight budget (crappy paying job) and now am on a fixed retirement pension that is about half of what I used to earn while I was working.
It was easier in and more straightforward the early days, as Daz offered what were known as Vouchers (basically store credit) for contests, having works posted in the gallery. and joining the original "PC Club" for the first time (the PC Club also offered two monthly vouchers one for "Daz-O" and the other for "PA content" rather than coupons well). Vouchers would stack with coupons so it was easy during a sale like March Madness or the PC Anniversary Sale to get some really, really good deals, and often during sales, PC items would be marked down to 99¢ (I checked my earliest purchases in Order History, and yes, the normal PC price was 1.99$ not 99¢ as I earlier misstated).
There was also less "gimmickry" involved like punch sales and such.
...I've always been something of a sceptic when it came to new trends, never one to immediately jump on a new bandwagon rolling through town. I like to see how it does and whether it flies or flops before I hop aboard. Hence, I've always waited a bit after a new generation was released before deciding to get on board. I am the same with software as I like to see the bugs wrung out enough t make it "serviceable" for my needs to put my money down.((part of the reason I ended up never adopting W10) but that's a long story).
I stayed with Gen4 for several months after the original Genesis was released, Some of that had to do with the fact I was still working on a 32 Bit notebook and Daz4.0 seemed more like an ongoing train wreck given how often it crashed.
G8 was my longest holdout as it didn't seem enough of an advance from the previous generation, as 3 was to 2, to start sinking my heard earned zlotys into it at the time (particularly as I certainly didn't think it would hang around for nearly five years given the usual two year shelf life of each Daz Genesis generation). The other part was almost all clothing and some hair content is dForce which runs like a slug on my old hardware. When I look back at the investment I built up and then see the issues with G9, that is when it was time to let this bandwagon roll by and on without me.
As I mentioned in another thread, there are plugins and utilities that allow me to pretty much combine the entirety of my Genesis 1 through 8 library (the latter growing slowly as sales permit) together. That's a pretty sizeable resource I have at my disposal.
Never mind... I'm totally mad at Daz right now :(
Bad day for being DAZ+ i thought - but then i found the DAZ-SPECIAL coupon for daz+ only and got https://www.daz3d.com/everyday-household-items for 60% off, which in my experience is a very good price for the https://www.daz3d.com/maclean prop packs.
Unfortunately only usable once per customer the ad says
I guess that's it for today, but better than yesterday!
...where's that? I don't see it on the store page.
The 4th banner.
...I just see the DAZ-20-2023 coupon sale in the 4th rotating banner on the store page. Nothing about Daz+ in any of them.
Do you maybe mean the Orange Banners? The last three I've received recently have been for G9 products.
I even refreshed the page and nothing new popped up.
https://www.daz3d.com/today-we-celebrate-you
Use code DAZ-SPECIAL
Not an orange banner, normal sale ad banner on homepage
..it finally popped up in my inbox.
Oh wow, ONE item discounted ... well, that's generous I guess ... And all the rest of the sale today is basically a sick joke for DAZ+ members ... Great, makes me feel very much 'celebrated' and valued.
it's not particulary exciting for non DAZ+ customers either to be honest
I may grab that accordian one day but don't need it enough to grab today even with some incentives of a few DAZ+ items I don't really want a bit cheaper
