One more figure from my Christmas figure-purchase binge arrived, and I'm sort of confused over what I received.

The quality is fantastic, and it looks more like a collectible than the 7 inch standard figure I ordered. Only, the figure isn't 7 inch, it's roughly four inches. Which made me curious as to, how is the 7 inches calculated?

Maybe he lost 3 inches in height when he sat down? cheeky

But I'm really impressed with the quality and details too.  In the picture of him facing left, the texture on his leg is unbelievable.

I think they probably use the smallest bounding 6-sided volume and base it on that.

Yes, it's almost like he stepped out of his webcomic and came to "life". It's totally awesome.

I don't know. The wolf I got earlier was also a 7 Inch, not in hight, but in length. But this guy doesn't get to 7 Inches anwhere.

In any case, he's looking fantastic, so the size issue is rather an academical/interest question.

Question - Have you ever tried to paint a figure?

    What challenges did you face?

Well, with this guy, the challenge is reaching inside all the little crevices to get the details, like his gold chain under his lekku.

Probably from a standing figure. They likely have a proportion set for the figure to be 7 inches from head to foot while standing. I know the winged guy I ordered was 7 inches from head to head to foot (when I thought he was going to be 7 inches from wingtip to foot).

For the two figures I sent in, I specified that the bases I included needs to be 3" square and 4" square respectively and everything should scale off that.  Hopefully they'll hold to that.  Though they're due in just over a week and I still haven't heard any questions from them nor seen any progress pics.

That figure you painted looks great, Hanabi! How long did it take you to paint him?

As for the size, I guess your guess is as good as mine, but I have the same guy standing, and he's his full 7 inch size. I'd also understand if that was the same size (same hight of torso/head), but the two of the new guy are smaller in comparision. It doesn't take anything away from the "wow!" factor, it's just puzzling.

Yes, he does look like a very good 3DL render in real 3D.

Now that you mention it... yes, the colours indeed have a 3DL touch to them, don't they?

I'm curious as to how the other figures of that group will turn out. One was a shackled guy sitting on a cube (which was due to be completed on 17th) and the other two guys standing next to each other, back to back (due on 19th). The three are important characters in my story, so them turning out good means a lot to me.

I'm also thinking about ordering one more standard character towards the end of the month - making use of the January offer, I might just carve it out of the budget if I crimp a lot on other stuff! smiley

Base coats are airbrushed, with that gentle highlight on the pants, but I've moved on to brush work. All the texture in the skin has been done via a glazing technique. Lots and lots left to go! I think I'm about 6-8 hours of work in so far, and not even done with the skin yet. I've been painting him up on-stream. You can check out the VoDs if you're interested: https://www.twitch.tv/hana_hanabi/videos/all Thursdays at 5:30pm Central and Sundays at 3pm central, although those times will be changing soon when I start my new schedule at work in Feb.

Oh, I don't mind waiting if the result is as gorgous as the last figure!

By the way, how is the size calculated? This sitting guy is around 4 inches; the order size was 7 inches. I'd just like to know for reference, so I can plan things better for the figure dreams that are still in my pipeline...(and yes, if possible I will use the great deal. I still have a voucher somewhere, so... well, one can live on Ramen noodles for a month, right? wink)

The second figure arrived from my "hey, I got a bonus and they are on sale!" pre-christmas shopping binge.

It's again, a 7inch standard figure. The actual size is a bit above 4 inch, but as I learned today, the "actual height" of the figure is the base for the end size, so a sitting 7 inch person is of course shorter than the same person standing. It's good to know that, really.

It doesn't change that this is another fantastic figure, and the guys and gals at GamePrint deserve another big "Thank you".

In any case, here's the new arrival - another character from my webcomic, a mage named Dan Tae who spent quite a few years in prison. I put him through a bath before setting him up for the picture. wink

The photos were taken by mobile cam under bad light conditions, and don't do the figure justice.

Here's a comparision, render and actual figure:

LOL, love that cube he is sitting on. laugh

Until I read your blurb I though he was based Reinholt Messner because how he looks.

Now that you mention it, yes the print does have a resemblance to Messner, though maybe it's more the combination of hair and beard. The character doesn't have that much hair in the render, but I guess the print got more from the thin top hair that was thickened?

The cube is from this very useful set: https://www.daz3d.com/dm-s-more-than-words

Actually, you can get it even cheaper iin this bundle: https://www.daz3d.com/beaut-blocks-bundle

  • I'd like to order a 7 in figure but just as a bust. Unfortunately the mannequin add on I want to use to create this isn't for the G3M I'd like to use. Is there a way I can submit the whole figure and you guys just chop off the arms and torso?? I really only want from the pecs up... like the classical busts...

Also, if I order now will I get it for Valentine's Day?

Hello, it usually takes 4-6 weeks. We do apologise we will not be able to make it in such a short time. As these collectibles are Bespoke and made using hand painters who carefully craft each model.
