What we have here is a failure to communicate.. *sigh* This is a complaint, but before reading getting into that... I do like the figure I got (its mine, you can't have it), and I think I'd recommend GamePrint.
In any case 6 weeks ago (page 20) or so, I asked a lot of questions about displacements and how they worked. I was assured that it wasn't an issue, and that they'd show me pictures and details, etc. I got a lot of reassuring emails, but the final one was, that they'll talk to me if they think they want to talk to me.
To my knowledge there is still no way to visualize what you get before you order it.
I've attached the website view which shows no displacements... a render with displacements, and what arrived. If you look at what arrived, not only are the displacements weak, but they are inverted.
Hello UHF
On behalf of our team, we apologise for this issue. We will be redoing your model, and sending you one with stronger displacements appearance, and they will not be inverted.
We will also make sure to send you a screenshot before we print the model since our viewer does not project displacements maps right before we print the model.
We apologise again.
GamePrint: You do not need to do that. I'm good with this figure.
I'm more concerned about how to avoid this in the future as I intend to continue using your service. Also, inversion on the displacement maps suggests you may have some software issues with UV map orientation.
Got my dragon today. I'm very very impressed with the level of detail that it has. Even his pointy teeth were filed out which is awesome! (they are tiny, I have no idea how they managed it but not a single tooth is broken or missing) I was a bit concerned that the texture wouldn't come through on his skin since I didn't increase the bump but its all there and looks great! I took pictures of the unpacking but need to take better pictures of the dragon himself, I didn't have my normal set up and they are a bit too blurry for my liking. And there are absolutely no seam lines anywhere, not indication of where they glued things together, and all the peg marks are completely gone. It looks like one unbroken piece, which, considering I got it with just primer on it, so I could paint it myself, is really fantastic. Having spent hours sanding out seem lines on ceramics, I know exactly how much skill it takes to get that right. Too much or a hair to little and its painfully obvious. Overall a fantastic job and I will most definitely be getting more.
Will have blog post up of the unpacking probably by Wed. but will also post here. Very well packaged as well. 110% satisfied with this!
I've also one more arrival to share... Will do that later today. I wanted to upload another character yesterday, but for some reason, the upload didn't get through. It first told me that no object was available, and then it kept trying to create a preview. Weird, really. I'll reupload tomight, an hope it will work out then.
@UHF : i can confirm your displacement problem with the clothing of one of the newarrivals. He has a very distinctive pattern on the pants that is supposed to be outwards, but it shows up as inward dented. on the print.
That really doesn't give me confidence in my order. Due date is 2 days, so it's probably in the air by now, and still no pictures or communications other than "we'll let you know if it's going to be late". And the sizing is very important to mine.
Everyone I've shown my models to has been impressed. Its important to remember that as 3D artists we're all a little OCD about details. In the grand scheme, my figures look awesome, and I'm happy.
What I really want to know, is if its possible to see what the figures will look like before I send them to GamePrint. I do understand that aliasing, and polishing may interfere with my grand vision, but I kinda wanna know what's coming out at the other end. I do understand that artists at GamePrint may do something not in my grand scheme... and I'm OK with that.
On another figure, the diffuse texture was applied as a displacement (inverted). That caught me by suprise...I assume it was a manual effort by artists are GamnePrint. I was planning to use decals or even hand draw the texture, but since it was inverted its less than desirable. Yet, the extra detail will make it possible for me to hand draw, so thanks?
Hello UHF
Thank you for your concern, and you bring up a very valid point here. We are working on getting you the artist move involved in the creation process.
With collectibles, we definitely can pay more attention to do details, and standard we need to pick the right information to focus on.
Regarding displacements, we will make sure our development team knows that our site needs a better viewer.
We are happy to keep making your models, as they are gorgeous
Thank you
It was a real pleasure working on it! We look forward to the next one!
I'm think that comment was intended for my post maybe....
It doesn't really make sense on mine yet.
Yes I do apologise that was for IceDragon. Sorry abou the mix up.
Can you guess why we sometimes print the head on its own?
Complexity and fragility of posed hair?
To get a good head start?
that's a good one!!
haaaaaa!
Easier to fix, if it screws up... easier to paint if its painted separately... easier to orient so the important details (face surface) aren't messed up.
Absolutely
For those of you who wondered about the G3 centaur... it prints beautifully.
I today got the single-colour 7 inch version of the centaur, and it totally exeeded my expectations.
If this is any indicator as to how the 12 inch version will turn out... I just can say: wow!
Looks great! Your Centurian was fun to work on; we can't wait to feature it.
Arrived today - a quick trip since it left Poland on Tuesday (it helps that DHL's US hub is only 25 miles away from my house).
This is the Wooly Mammath by AM. LAMH hair was exported as .obj and reimported. 7" standard painted model. Here are several views - render followed by 3d print. Most obvious difference is the hair which has to be thickened to withstand the printing process. Also the flash on the camera is washing out the colors some. Looks good on my desk.
That looks good, RGcincy!
Yes, the fur had the thickening, but I think it suits the mammoth pretty well. The colouring came across nicely, too!
I really like the tusks too. I wasn't sure how they would turn out but they have a nice curve to them and the color has a variated ivory look.
Yes, they do incredible things with the nuances of colouring! I also think they did a good jon on the facial/trunk shades. Are you planning on more models?
I have a primed model of a viking but I need to paint it. Think I'll wait to get that done before I try any more.
RGincy... Was that Standard or Custom for the Mammoth?
I have 3 figures, and 2 more on the way, and I'm just starting to get my head around the issues of painting. I'm contemplating getting a painted figure, but I can't quite understand what the differences in quality are. I assume Standard means a reasonable gradient of shading, but no freehand custom details.
These are all standard 7 inch figures. They have incredible handpainted custom detail, if you provide the artist with good closup renders on top of the all-four-sides.
