New here, but noticed a few queries about bridges. I've done quite a few for Bridge Commander, including DS9 Ops. I'm not even sure if nif/max files can be converted, but if anyone interested they can contact me. I don't really create LCARS (though can supply credits info), but mesh and textures are mine. Some other bridges are:
    * Delta Flyer
    * Rotarran/DS9 BoP (from uncompleted public mesh model)
    * K'tinga (from Baz1701s uncompleted STII torpedo bay)

    Other bridges here:

Very impressed with Rduda's JJ bridge and all the work here. Really must learn Daz or Poser at some point.

Can you save the file as .obj?

Page 4!!! Golly I remember the days this thread seldom left top of the first.

Okay ... here's a couple of renders of what I've been doing recently.

Haven't settled on a colour scheme yet but I do believe in colour!

Also that chair seems a tad large for some of the characters, so was thinking of making some pillows for it or something. Or make the people bigger ... or the chair smaller ... no people bigger .... but ... oh well ...

OH NO! Thats weird, let me look at my master file, I'll have to patch that!

I use 3ds Max for modelling and I'm pretty sure it allows exporting to .obj, as well as 3ds and a bunch of other formats. I think Nifskope also exports to .obj (you can definitely import, even if results aren't always pretty :-) ). I'm on my Mac at moment, but I'll boot up PC tomorrow and try it out.

Nif files can be converted using NifSkope:

I prefer .obj files, no triangles [or very few triangles] ;-)

edit: ... I was signed in .... went to edit ... had to sign in again? ... and there's that DashBoard!

Won't mention how many sales are lost because they keep logging me out and I keep thinking I'm logged in and looking at the end prices.

    ..............................

okay a little OT but somebody I think in here mentioned of a character with an H on his head ... this was not made using any reference images {hay look ma! no hands!} but still might be of interest. One of my "little morphs" for Genesis.

Yes, I was referring [and should have quoted perhaps] to the reference about exporting from Max3d. If we get .obj from there, that would skip over using Nifscope in the middle of the workflow. [unless of course I totally misread the paragraph which is possible, it's been a long "fussing with programs" day].

Book Eight of Fourteen is up.

For those that read the previous novel. This one will answer a number of questions left unanswered in the previous book.

    http://pdsmith.deviantart.com/art/Tales-from-the-Mirror-Universe-The-Banquet-396896354?ga_submit_new=10%3A1377866899

This novel is a departure in looks and style for the series, I thought a more dramatic one image per page short story would help things along.

    Enjoy.

and as usual if you find a glaring mistake please PM here or 'note' me over at DA. I can handle criticism and critiques as well.

    Hey Everyone,

Just a quick note to say that I am still alive and kicking. I was transfered to a new job assignment while I was out and now work out of the US Emabasy in Baghdad. I got set up in temporary housing that doesn't have any internet so I am having to find one of the few Wi-Fi spots here to get online to do anything until I get a more permanent room assignment. I will try to update the freebies list as I can but it could still be a few days to a week or two before I have a stable internet connection and living space. I have seen a couple freebies posted and they look awesome. I will try to update everything as soon as I can so please forgive the lack of updates to the lists.

I converted all your BC bridges as soon as they came out, Lurok91. (Really great selection you did, including several I'd been wanting for ages. Thanks so much.) Nifskope to export as obj, Irfanview to convert the .tga textures, Some global search and replaces with a text editor in the .mtl files to change the texture references from the tgas to the converted textures, then import the .obj into DS or Poser. Rotate and scale, and save as a DS or Poser prop. Optional extra work to rig working doors and swivelling seats. Never had a problem with the objs from NifSkope in DS and Poser, unlike many objs people have exported from MAX.

Converting BC bridges and ships has come up in this series of Star Trek threads in this forum a number of times over the years, with versions of complete instructions by assorted people.

When I hear "BC bridges," this is what I think of ...

    What is this "Bridge Commander"?

    What is this "Bridge Commander"?

Bridge Commander is a now ancient - in computer gaming terms - computer game, set in the Star Trek universe, with storylines, missions and so forth. The original contains assorted bridge sets and ship models in a just-post Nemesis setting, so the ships and bridges from the TNG/DS9 Voyager era.

However is is 'mod'able, and over the years many talented people have produced both ships and bridges to add to the game covering all eras (ENT to the 25th century, including TOS and TMP/TWOK etc times), canon and non-canon, as well as retexturings.

Due to computers of the time it was made, the original bridge and ship models are low poly meshes with low rez textures. So were the early mods. As user computer abilities increased, more recent mods have contained progressively higher poly meshes and higher rez textures (sometimes as options). Even then, ship meshes tend to be low poly compared to the ones made for 3D art, and better suited to the background ... although there are exceptions. Bridges actually are more OK non-high poly, though some benefit from swapping e.g. chairs for higher poly ones from elsewhere, or a bit of smoothing on chair tops, railing edges and whatnot.

I have never played Brdige Commander, and indeed don't have the program. but I discovered the main site where the mods are some years ago, lurked on the forums, downloaded some mod packages, discovered NifSkope, and found the ship and bridge models could easily be transferred to DS and Poser. While there are better versions, for 3D art, of many ships and a few brdiges, there are also a number of ships and many bridges there I've found nowhere else. It's got the best Ent-refit TWOK bridge I've found anywhere (better than the VP one by far in detail), for example. and it's the only place I've found not only a Runabout cockpit, but the Runabout cockpit in all versions (courtesy of Lurok91!)

The modding activity there has died down a lot over the last year or two. I check it every day, but there have been periods of many weeks without a new mod (though some of the Pictures of the Day are worth a look - all screenshots made from within Bridge Commander). That said, just last week 3 new TOS non-canon ships appeared. Bridges appear much more seldom. I'm rather hoping a canon TWOK Reliant bridge may be putting in an appearance soon. But about the only canon Bridge I haven't already got and really still want (from all eras) is a better Ent-B one.

Just a quick update given my lack of speed and reliable internet connection. Freebies list has been updated.

Paul - both of your graphic novels have been updated.

ssgbryan - Your poses for Dawn have been updated, thank you for supporting the new girl.

    and finally

Porthos1 - Thank you for the new tunic and textures to go with it, I'm sure a number of people around will really enjoy them.

if I missed anyone else please note/PM me or paul (PDSmith - he'll get me an email to let me know if I happen to miss something.)

    Thank you all.

Just an HU to anybody that had acquired a certain character that came with a developer kit, they have uh, "clarified" their readmes and such to clearly state that neither the developer kit nor the otherwise merchant skin are to be used for making free items. :-(

That was a pretty good overview. There's far less (bridge) modding now as most of the original modders have moved on to the freebie WIP game Excalibur, and the general community has shrunk to a hardcore rump also I guess as people moved on to free STO and other games. So there's really no more real passion to turn out bridges, though I know Baz (who did the TWOK bridge) has a finished canon WOK Reliant he'll probably release at some point.

As for Daz advice, I downloaded the free Daz Studio (4.something) that was offered last year. Worked fine. I just noticed there's a later version being offered (4.6 or similar) and wondered if this was better/worth swapping for, or no real difference?

That might explain why there has been such a lack of skins for her. Making from scratch is proving slow. I've take the face of one of Silvers skins and stretched the face in photoshop to over lay the provided skin. It;s very close but getting anything for hands and feet are next to impossible.

I see the same thing happening with Gen2Fem native based skin (not converted skins but originally made skins)

Everyone is having to start over and it's probably why we're seeing clothing and hair and morphs for them but not native based skins.

Well the starting over is their choice ... Genesis isn't going anywhere. And I for one am not converting everything I own for any one character over to the next. Like people, they each have their own closet and I'm kool with that.

I have the templates, I have the MR resources, it's just the time and a few things like that lol ... because yes, it is a slow process at least until one gets done the basic "base" they want to use over a few times. I also didn't get the impression that people cared for those skins I did release sometime back ... so it hasn't been a priority of things to make for people.
