It does generally tend to throw your sleep cycle out, if you nap for "too long", yes. I hear something like 17 minutes is the maximum "safe" nap time, otherwise you won't be able to go to sleep in the evening.

Not really that sick as long as I stay still and rest; fluids stay down OK. Looks like 24-hour something. Hope everyone else is well.

...ugh, I've had days like that.

Well, I know it could have been more painful, but man, did GRUB2 bootloader toss me a puzzle for a while. Now getting updates in, and hoping like heck that nothing breaks.

Ahahahaha of course something will break. Watch this space for exciting Linux rants.

    ...späte Montag-Beanstandungen

    (auf Englisch)

    #1. Stupid inconsiderate motorists.

First: Was down in the local shopping district when I needed to cross the main street. Walked to the nearest "Zebra Stripe" corsswalk. Cars on one side all stopped to let me cross, however, as I neared the centre of the street two cars in the opposing lanes shot through right only inches in front of me, and I had to stare down the driver of a third who looked like he was intent on running me down. In Portland OR it is a fairly hefty fine if a motorist does not yield to a pedestrian in a marked crosswalk such as the one I was in (the sad thing is the local gendarme is more interested in making big drug busts instead of looking after public safety). In fact. all traffic travelling in either direction must stop at the marked line before the crosswalk and wait until a pedestrian has completely crossed and is on the opposite pavement (sidewalk).

Second: On the way home, I saw this lame-brained twit in her little Honda/Toyota/Nissan whatever car just merrily drive right through a stop sign at the intersection I was approaching. She didn't even slow down, tap the brakes, or even look to the side to see if anything was coming down the street I was on. Had I been a few moments ahead, I would have been right in her path of destruction.

Things like this really rankle me as, even though I am on a bicycle, I still follow the rules of the road as if I were at the wheel of an automobile. It's not just self preservation, but bleedin' common courtesy (plus it gives me licence to read the riot act to said scofflaw who attempted to take me out). Thinking of getting one of those wearable mini digital cams, that way I have irrefutable evidence.

    #2 packaging engineers (again) .

So I get a measure of sliced cheese in one of those alleged "easy open pouches". I deftly grasp the "EZ open ribbon" with my stiff fingers and pull only to have it tear off everything down to the plastic gripper seal leaving me with nothing to grasp to actually open the packet. In the end I had to get a scissors cut the package open (thus compromising it's "resealable" feature), and had to find a container to place the rest of the cheese slices in so they would stay fresh. The people who develop this stuff either need to be forced to try and open their infernal designs while wearing mittens to see just what us arthritics have to deal with or simply be drawn and quartered for perpetrating cruel and inhuman punishment.

    #3. Local Sports Radio.

Both Saturday and Sunday morning, I wake up, turn on the radio in hopes of getting the latest sporting news while I prepare brekkie only to find they are broadcasting yet another match involving those unlovable losers, the Seattle Mariners.

Crikey, this is Portland Bleedin' Oregon, we are over 160 miles away. We don't even have a Mariners minor league franchise here and we don't bloody care. If any out of market team deserves coverage here it would be the San Francisco Giants as thy have a much bigger local following than the Mariners (and at least they can win games and go to a World Series once in a while).

So tonight, I get home tune in to listen to game 7 of the Eastern Conference Basketball championship and what do I get? Yet another Mariners broadcast. Now when there is an important event their parent network (ESPN) carries, they are supposed to move the Mariners game to their 'sister station". Well that seems to have been tossed out the window the last several days. I remember a few years ago the NCAA Championship final (which involved a team from my area of the country I liked) was preempted by a Mariners preseason exhibition game (which counted for nothing in the standings or stats) and subsequent post game show (I almost sent them my tab from the corner sports pub asking for a reimbursement).

If this is not bad enough, when the game is finally over they will carry the Seattle based post game show, preempting the national feed for yet another two hours wile they cry about how the M's lost this latest one.

I'm to the point of writing the ESPN home office and requesting they yank this channel's ticket and find a local affiliate who will carry their national feed, uninterrupted, 24/7.

...alrighty, appears I used up my rant allowance for the day. Keep Calm and Carry On.

Here's a complaint and non-complaint all in one:

Why is it that International Shipping seems to take LESS time than express shipping for me?
That comic I ordered from Japan? Two days later it's already in the US and is only a few states away. In that same amount of time, my packages I order from the US Amazon typically haven't even left their state yet. o_o

Still, now that it's in the US I bet it'll take a number of days or even a week to get here *derp*
Said estimated arrival was the 5th, which I hardly believed since it was coming from the other side of the world, but this seemed pretty fast so far.

So the complaint: Why can't my other packages usually get moving this fast?
Non-Complaint: It's moving a lot faster than I expected so far (I expected a month at least)

Unfortunately, courtesy is no more common than sense! The camera might be a good idea.

If it says Easy or EZ, most likely it is not. And if it says Quick and EZ, it is probably neither. Just like "child-proof caps", which are actually adult-proof instead.

@Rezca: I think the postal service, at least, has gotten better in the past couple of years. But part of that (or maybe most of it) is likely due to the fact that people are using other shippers for a lot of packages, and are paying bills online. I got a new mouse (my Logitech Revolution MX was no longer charging) and it was the free saver shipping, supposedly 5 to 7 business days. I got a notice that it shipped, and would be here by the 3rd. But it arrived the next day, on May 31! I was quite pleasantly surprised, and very happy. The old MS Explorer optical mouse was driving me crazy...so unresponsive!

@tjohn: I hope you are feeling well, soon if not now!

Complaint: I stopped getting notices for this thread again! I can't keep up. I tried going back a few pages, but it seems like it never ends. Don't hate me.

So many things on my mind lately.

I noticed you made a comment over at ShareCG to the guy who has been making the carts and poses and stuff for the Mil Horse. I figured you got some of them, so I'd like to ask...are they for the Mil Horse or the Mil Horse 2?

Edit: Oh, just realized that there is more than one person doing Horse things...Skylab is doing some, too. Same question, if you happen to know.

    I suppose so ^^

Though I also mentioned some time back a package I ordered (That did not have tracking information, and thus they would not be able to alert me if it was delayed or etc) that estimated it would arrive AT LATEST 5/1. It's been well over a month since then, and nothing has come. I double and triple checked the address and it was the same as the one that two books were shipped to with no problem, and I've never had issues with this seller before - not even a day late sort of problem.

All I can assume is something went wrong, but I never got any email about it so I dunno what happened.
Yeah and that "At latest" bit? They estimated 4/14 - 5/1 for the shipment at 5 -7 Business days (Which was the only shipping option they had *shrugs*)

I haven't installed 'em yet, just hoarded them, but I think those carts etc were for original MilHorse, not for DAZ Horse 2. CauriB has done MilHorse UV remap for DAZ Horse 2 plus MilHorse shape, so you can try to use them with DH2.

Also, looks like my server update was successful, at least so far. Gahhhh, so tired, soooooooooooooooooo tired.

Ok, major complaint rant, probably a bit technical for most folks but this is giving me major indigestion! (angry face)

When you ship a product, it's called a RELEASE. You take the source code, tools, and everything else used to make that RELEASE and you store then away somewhere such that they can't be messed with. This way, you can reproduce that RELEASE *exactly* and should anything go bad in the future, you have a known good milestone.

What you DO NOT FREAKING DO is have 3-4 "release" versions floating around, all different, with the supposedly "golden" one NOT BUILDING. You do NOT skip saving the tools or libraries, thus making it *impossible* to reproduce the supposedly working code. You do NOT skip putting things in source control because "it's too much bother".

And the boss is upset (not with me) because Mr. Certified Professional Engineer decides to ignore 20 years of best practices because it's 30 minutes of extra work. And the production manager is upset (not with me) because there's no way to reproduce the working, shipping code that has been going out the door for the past year. And I'm upset (at everyone) for not bloody having the brains to spend the extra 1-2 days it would cost to do REAL RELEASE CONTROL and PEER REVIEWS so that I don't have to sit here and blow several days trying to figure out who screwed what up, how badly, and whether or not I can even fix it!!! (very angry violent homicidal face emote waving an axe).

    Fehhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Ok, rant done.. back to work for me (blank face)!

@Skiriki - Senior engineers should know better. My boss and I are going to meet about release control when he comes back into town.

@Misty - I wish! Being a contractor, I have no leverage to do much of anything. Maybe I can win the Lotto and retire soon (lol)!

Well, I made a new build of what might have been the original code but there's no way to tell. If it passes the fa ctory test, they'll beat it up next to make sure the bugfixes they're shipping are actually in the "baseline" code. Then I'm shoving the whole affair, libraries and all, into source code control so this project never suffers from this idiocy again!

At least I can slack while I wait for test results.. treating myself to White Cheddar Cheeze-Its! (big grin)

I need to go over all the steampunk, horror, and impractical armor I have and start choosing clothes for characters. Cant have Vicky naked all the time! And I need a nice steampunk-type suit for my hero in Argentum Noctis, and one for his lady companion.. I think I have an M4 Victorian/steampunk suit somewhere..

Set up 2 new blogs, one for Argentum Noctis, one for The Vicky Chronicles. Going to post pre-production, production, and post-production notes there. Eventually each will have its own Website, but that's next month.

Lots of things to keep me busy until this weekend, and I'm going out for Chinese on Saturday, darn it!!!

FYI there's some GLORIOUS shaders from DimensionTheory for DS4.6 today, which truly look like they're geared to kick butt.

Woah, the life-shaders thing? Wishlisted for next Payday! (whee emote)

I need a pile of shaders for my 2 projects, so all my content money for the next month is going to go on filing up on as many fancy DS 4.6 shaders as I can get my fins on! (smirk)

Somewhere in there I'll get a nice external monitor and keyboard for my laptop and stop squinting. The new Intel CPUs are coming out soon, so no new computer until I see how those benchmark.

Can't wait for lunch - hot dogs with mustard and dill relish!(wheee emote)
