And I would give them all up..except for maybe Dain..for a decent Gianni 8.

41 days since Juan Carlos 8. Maybe the Genesis 8 update will come out tomorrow.

Am I making an unfounded assumption in expecting G8.1 (or whatever fraction they end up uning) to work in DS4.12?

My reasoning was: Genesis 2 Blowout yesterday, Genesis 3 Blowout today, Genesis 8 Upgrade tomorrow. But if they can wait, I can.

Or maybe Genesis 8 blowout tomorrow (which would be weird, but kind of in keeping with everything else), and 8.1 either Thursday or next Wednesday. Who knows what lurks in the hearts and minds of the Daz braintrust?

This break has actually run slightly longer than the break between Tristan and CJ at the end of 2019, beginning of 2020; that was almost exactly one month.

Assuming that Victoria is the first of the 8.1 figures (a reasonably safe assumption, given that a fit for her has already appeared), I wonder if maybe Michael will come along two weeks later, or if they'll do the same schedule as with the original G8 releases? That would put Michael two months after Victoria, and a month after Olympia.

I also wonder to what extent there may be a change in physical appearance. (I'm assuming, for the sake of sanity, that the texture layout will remain essentially the same. If it's only a 0.1 update, most of the changes should be under the hood, so to speak.) I hope that a converter or clones aren't needed for clothes, but I suspect (based, admittedly, on nothing more than past pattern and practice) that this may be a forlorn hope.

I think it would be bad if we were forced to buy converters a few months from when those converters will break because of the change to Qt5.  Not saying that it can't happen, only that it would not be good.

Also, I wonder if our script wizards have been allowed behind the curtain so that they can start acquainting themselves with the future of Daz scripting.

The issue is not the time when G 8.1 release ?

The issue is what brings about changes and improvements , Is it worth to buy .

If the heels/shoes are broken again like G3 => G8, I'm not upgrading. Nope.

  • Would Daz release Genesis 8.1  before studio had upgraded to QT5  ? IMO   perhaps behind the scenes Daz is working hard to  get the upgrade to QT 5 then with a razzamataz  new function studio with new skin shader and Genesis 8.1 So perhaps in a months time  In time for the March madness ??

So I went into DIM today to download something, and I saw that there's a new version of Default Resources available. It wasn't there yesterday. I'm not going to download at the moment, because I haven't upgraded to 4.15, and I don't want to break my Studio installation. But it's ... interesting.

That's new in the past few hours.  It looks to be changes to lights and base shaders.  I thought it deserved its own thread.

All of the major content departments have new headings for Genesis 8.1. Is that new? I've had incredibly bad brain fog ever since I had COVID in July, so it frankly could have happened days ago and I've just overlooked it for this long.

The fact that 8.1 requires its own subsection worries me, hopefully we're not going to end up having to do a bunch of workarounds and jank autofitting to get even just-released content to work. Hopefully we'll also get separate Genesis 8.1 Starter Essentials rather than having our existing G8 figures "updated," i.e. overwritten on our drives and replaced in our product libraries with the 8.0 version being completely pulled.

    Well, she's here.

Genesis 8 is forward-compatible to 8.1 -- morphs and poses and clothes apparently all still work -- but 8.1 textures and characters aren't backward compatible, so apparently she has a new but compatible UV layout?

The university bundle looks nice, but dear lord, that PRICE!

Yes! The devs/programmers made her automagically able to use all the G8 mats and morphs :D

Especially since it contains two older items, for which they're offering only a token discount to previous owners.

@ChangelingChick, would you know why they made that change to the UV layout? What are the benefits of having the back of the head, the neck, and shoulders on a separate island from the torso/body?

And separately, updates to G8M and his anatomical elements in today's DIM. No direct sign of G8M 8.1; the update to the elements is, as I understand it, because they can now be used on G8.1F. (I wonder what made them decide to do that?)

As to the UV, as I understand it, that's an issue that a lot of artists have been wanting addressed for a while now. Because the texel density was so strongly different between the face and torso region, it was always very difficult to get a seamless transition between the two zones without an obvious drop in detail. The extra head zone adds a middle ground so to speak so that the differences aren't quite so stark.

It would be cool if a plugin or script were written to gather and the Genesis 3 and Genesis 8 human material sets and then split them into Genesis 8.1 format at the appropriate scale so that the UVs & such were correct. Maybe DAZ Studio does than internally if you apple one of those material presets to the 8.1 base so that you need only save the results as a new materials preset?

And Michael 8.1 just one week after Victoria.

Well, it's better than three months later, or three years later, I suppose.

And unlike Victoria and the university bundle, there's an actual character in Michael's bundle. Curious.

So, Torment 8.1, for a second major male release in a row. And very ... unexpected, let's say. Taking the slot that Damien Demon had in Genesis 3, I guess.
