UVs complete, texturing is all DS default plastic and metal shaders with my UVs, all images are my own renders, objects were modeled by me in Wings3D, so I can share the final product without infringement.
Now can anyone point me to a good (free) resource tutorial for simple rigging in DAZ Studio? I want to rotate the lid on a hinge, and spin the crank on an axis.
In case anyone thinks my clowns are too scary, here's a photo of the same model Mattel Jack-In-The-Box toy that I had when I was 4-6 yo. Now those are some scary clowns. :ahhh:
I hope to have this up on ShareCG by Halloween.

ETA: I purposely tried not to duplicate the design by modelling it from memory, hence the differences in the hinges, etc.
And again this is meant as a display base for characters, like unflatable ponies for example. :)

Forgot to mention that I like this a lot! Is a Killer Klown going to pop out?

Non-complaint: 3D objects from a single photo! Magic is real :)

...thanks guys. Needed to make the car look sinister hence the blacked out glass & such (a standard option for the discriminating Shadowrunner).

Thanks, I plan to include a set of blank UVs so people can add the images of their choice to the box (like their kids, pets, etc.)
When I do a render of my own with it, I'll make heavy use of Hybrid Grunge on things. :vampire:

I'm not trying to bash Poser or Daz 3D but:

i have a habit of downloading the Daz Studio version of the zip files when I need the Poser (pz2/obj) format. Daz Studio 3 can't open dso and duf files. Daz Studio 3 can load dsa files just fine. I need to remember to download the StudioCF files when they appear.

Just making an observation. Yes, I am still trying to download 32 pages worth of products. ok, bye.

If you use DIM it can filter out those and just give you whatever version is best for DS3.

And once they're filtered out you can just select everything and hit download and go do something more entertaining while they download. Beats going through 32 pages of stuff one item at a time.

Dah dah dah dah dah dah Dah! (that fanfare sucks! shut up, I know it does)
The Beta version of Tjohn's Jack In The Box is ready for victims...I mean testers. If anyone is interested, here's what you need to know.
The object is in a zipped file that is only 401 kb.
It is a .duf file put together in 4.6 and saved as a scene subset because that was the only way I could figure out how to preserve the rigging.
It may work in 4.5 or Poser with Dyson, I don't know because I don't have them to try it on.
As you can see, I have the lid rigged to hinge open and closed (it will open more than shown in the pic) and the crank to turn 360 degrees.
Those bones can be accessed one level under the lid and crank in the scene panel, and the sliders for that can be seen under Posing.

I would like anyone interested to PM me with your email address, and I'll send you the zip file as quickly as possible. Don't worry, your email will be safe with me. Probably. :)
I've tested the unzip process and it works for me. Just extract the files to your My Library or My Daz 3D Library or whatever you're using to store your products. There's no danger of overwriting any of your files unless you have a folder named "Tjohn" in there. :)
You can find the thing in Daz Studio Formats/My (whatever) Library/Props/Tjohn/Toys/.
Please feedback here and post a render. If you like it, I'll put it up on ShareCG as a freebie.
Thank you for putting up with me. This stuff should probably be in its own thread in the Freepository, but I know you guys and value your opinions.

Firefly? Like Poser's firefly render engine? lol oh, you mean the science fiction TV show that aired in 2002?

I'm going to follow fixmypcmike's suggestion and use Daz Install Manager. I didn't realize that I bought so many items. Wow, I forgot that Unimesh Fits for V4 are big; Cheyenne unimesh fits is around 50 MB.

Yeah, I have tutorials and tutorials, and Hexagon. I have a lot of texture resources, both freebies and paid items. I have Morphing Clothes from Renderosity. I just don't have any drive, or time, or excitement about it right now. I do have ideas for several things. I just can't get on the move. I have a respect for anyone who makes these things.

How was it to rig btw? that's something I need to get a handle on... maybe on the weekend (>_<).</p>

Well, it's partly procrastination, and partly being paralized. Not literally, of course. And I have to make my web site work first, and that is another thing that taunts and tasks me.

on the topic of rigging and clothes, I hope to make my own clothes for the older generation characters. I'm trying to make my own little cabin. I need to learn how to rig doors and windows and drawers. I might post some WIP renders in the Art Studio.

I'm going to install Figure Setup Tools for Daz Studio 3 now. later

Rigging is an interesting process. I got it to work by reading the Daz doku. When I try again someday, I'll have to do that all over again. One of the hamsters on my brain wheel died while I was trying to wrap my mind around rigging. :)
    It's definitely not intuitive.

    (sorry, not for Maya/3DSMax/C4d...)

ETA: *ouch* @ Miss Kulay - hope that clears up soon, blisters on the feet are no fun (when you have to walk a lot during the day anyway).
