how do you turn on skin sss in DS? is it a node like poser? is it a slider surfaces doodad?

In 4.6 there's a subsurface shader that you apply on top of the original shader for each surface. The sss base is free with 4.6 that appears in your Product Library when you get the latest 4.6 general release, but really comes in handy to have this:

Many of the newer characters, Generation 5 and 6, come with the new sss already applied.

Morning. Cold south wind blew all the grey clouds away overnight and left a big bright but cold sun-kissed blue sky day for us so far.

It got cold here today. The high in my town was 53 (F) today. Inside it was only 64 at the warmest part of the day...so I opened up the vents downstairs and turned the heat on. That's too cold for me. My hands get cold and stiff and I can barely even type. I hate that!

thanks. toolbox doesn't mention it's a merchant resource.

is there anything like the Material room in DS i can tinker with the sss?

i don't want to make my m4 character for poser only, and i don't want to plagiarize someone else's shaders.
but, ds users prolly won't be interested in m4.

Apply the Elite Human Surface shaders. Here is an old tutorial for Daz Studio 3: How to use the Elite Human Surface Shaders

I forgot where the EHSS shaders are in Studio 4. I think they are in the shaders folder under Daz Studio files. Sorry, I can't check now. I'm using another computer now.

Edit: I found one of my old screenshots online from an online backup. Hope this helps.

Edit 2: after you load the Human Surface Shader, you can turn on Fresnel, Velvet and Subsurface scattering. You may want to reduce the specular strength.

thanks. those look like presets? how do you design your own materials?

I have no idea how to create my own fancy materials in shader mixer. Sorry.

Looks like you found some information in http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/31156/

    Good luck

yeah :) sitting down to the mixer and winging it just doesn't work. But, now haz links and pdfs to read up on it.

still haz memories of seeing poser's advanced material room for the first time.
like whiskey tango foxtrot, i was so sure would never need to see that again. lol.
turns out playing with materials is a fun way to while away a cold winter weekend.
but i had the p5 secrets book. and Baggins Bill was a great help to learning.

Support said that they were waiting for more serial numbers. Guess many people were buying it since it is on sale. Well there is a bundle on sale.
