i have not upgraded to 4.11. so that means thi sproduct is useless to me and anyone that has not upgraded?
No, it's not useless: you won't be able to use the fur, of course, but you still get a weightmapped version of the cat and iray materials for it.
I did the fur, though other artists did work on this, too.
Why do fur and not a new figure?
Have you ever made a completely original figure? It’s really hard. :)
Plus making it look right is REALLY hard, particularly with discerning cat lovers.
I’m hopeful that eventually we will see a new cat, but until then...
If you want better hair, you can decrease Line width and increase Hairs per cm2. But you will increase render load... so it depends on how good your machine is. (I picked values that worked reasonably on my ok machine)
Further, you can change line tessellation to 3 to model actual full hairs. But that triples the effective polygons. Again, if your machine is spiffy...
Another way to make the hairs look more ... fine is to lower cutout. I’d suggest experimenting with a value around .6.
I believe old textures should work, as well as any weird MilCat textures you may have. Just go into the fur surfaces and replace the obvious.
The cat on the main sale page image could be a photo of my cat Squeaky during a modelling session. That is very good. However, none of the other images are remotely like the shape of my two Maine Coons. Also I would love to model a Maine Coon of ours who never reached full size, simulating one of his favourite occupations - paddling in the bath or playing in the snow. But the cat shape is so wrong for a Maine Coon. In fact, the cat only looks right in that one main sale image.
I may get it next month when I have some more pocket money. But I am not convinced.
in case anyone is wondering . House cat only work indaz 4.11 & daz 4.12 beta only . & would not load in any daz less that daz 4.11 when i tried it in daz 4.10 and 4.9 All I got was a Null

i have the free presets too, but since i only have the free lamh player, there's a limit in the fur colors i think - or i never found out how to use the texture as a base for the lamh hair (not talking about changing all hair color at once in the lamh panel, i know that one).
i really need a dforce compatible gcard - i'm starting to be beyond frustrated without.
as to why no cat 8, i dunno.. ofc i'd rather have had a brand new cat figure (especially since they went the extra mile for the dog! cat worshipper oblige!) - but i guess that while the mesh of the milcat could have been updated, compared to other older figures in general, the milcat was at least already quite good, not like humans... anyways, i can still pick between this and the "other" house cat now - more furs, more poses, and i'll compare as to how close shots come ^^
OMG OMG OMG Finally there's a cat!!!!.. Granted not Cat 8, but he has 4 legs and fancy fur. To me, any cat here is good news since we've been begging for years. I have everything and more from the old Mil Cat, so I'm happy I qualified for the discount. Using the coupon, I paid $3.92 for the cat. I also got 3RFD Suit for $7.83, Girls for G8F for $6.39, and (pls don't dog me), The Mushroom House for $7.99.
I don't know why it wouldn't work with DS 4.9.0.123 (which is what I have). I have several furry dforce things from the 'other store' and they work great in LAMH. And isn't what this cat is? dforce?. What does 4.11 have to do with it?
I'm so happy I'm purring and my tail is straight up in the air! Can't wait to use it. This is one of the only times ima say it 'thank you Daz for the new-ish cat)! Now let's get out there PA's and start making cat specific accessories and poses!
lol, you've got a point. one of mine even hates when i touch him, he licks himself afterwards like *eeeeew human smell!*, so i actually avoid putting my human stink over him ^^
I bought the bundle and yes I got the purple banner.
It won't work in anything before 4.11 as it uses the new strand based hair. I'm rather surprised that you don't have the latest official release.
That's weird, I would have thought that there was a version without hair included that would load in 4.10 at least...
It's dForce Hair, not just dForce. That was introduced in 4.11.
The products you have from another store are most probably regular hair with "dForce clothes" settings as only Daz PAs have the tools to create dForce Hair, which means that without dForce they're just regular meshes. This is probably not the case of dForce hair, especially if it was created from strand-based hair (introduced in 4.11 too).
Only had a quick look, but my impressions are .. slight disappointment that it seems to be merely Mil Cat+, with added fur, which is more than offset by my reaction to the fur - as compared to the LAMH freebie so graciously offered by .. um, whoever did it! For one, this fur is good for both 3Delight and Iray (for my own reasons I declined to go the Catalyser route) and, from the quick look, it appears to be bloody good, knoccking the LAMH freebie into a cocked hat (only room in the hat if the cat has not yet seen it and settled in it ...) I could be a little cruel and say, 'hence the low price', but far from it, I'd actually say, 'By Grabthar's hammer, what a bargain!" All in all, a no-brainer to get, thank you all involved!

Disappointed. The fur is meh and the whiskers look icky. I really like the dog, though it needs a lot more breeds. I was hoping for a cat of the same quality.

I respect the hard work that went into this, but if I didn't have stacking discounts from the purple banner, the coupon from the purple banner, and having another item from the same sale in the cart, and a shot at additional discounts on awesome AprilSYH hairstyles, I'm not sure I'd bother. I don't do a lot of cat-related art.
I think it looks really good given the age of the base model, and the fur helps a lot. I'm probably in the extreme minority but I've never seen a huge difference between the Mil Cat and the HW Cat in terms of realism.
I'm not getting enough credit for my dFurs joke. :-(
I hadn't tried yet, but I was hoping it would. Might even buy the fur ball in appreciation ;)
