For what it's worth, I think dFurs is hilarious.

You'd be dFurst to think so ... cheeky

    I won't say anything further...

Well, I thought the promos made updated cat look good -

...But I still use the old figures a lot

    1) they strain the computer less

    2) Somehow more rewarding to make old content look good with modern render technology and shaders.

So I've less objection to an upgrade of old assets.

Price was good, and a very attractive deal.

it'd be nice to see some product releases on the back of the milcat update.

Most of Lynn's morphs for the MilCat were for the version of the cat that loads the size of a cougar. I always had to start by scaling the cat to 33% if I wanted to use it as a cat.

    They made a huge mistake.

    It should've been called dFurs.

As in "May dFurs Be With You"?

What a big sandbox do we have here?

How hard is it to use this dforce fur? I've upgraded to 4.11, but I've been reluctant to get on the dforce hair train. Is there much of a learning curve? I don't use animals much, but for less than $5, I'm feeling like I might get it anyway.

First, i think its absolutely awesome that the cat is an updated version. I have SO MANY CAT TEXTURES for millenium cat. SO MANY!!! And I've wanted it in duf format forever without breaking it. And now with iray mats? What that means is...

It's a fabulous deal for people who already have the mil cat (and I'm sure tons of us do, over the years and so many sales and so on). We can use all the poses, add ons, textures and such and not buy them all again! Woo hoo!  Furthermore, while everyone knows I'm a diehard LAMH fan and NOT a fan of garibaldi tools, I'll gladly enjoy the work others have done to create hair for my favorite critters.
I've been slow jumping on the dhair bandwagon, mostly because of moving and focus on dealing with a ton of real life things, but this got me to try it out because I use cats in as many pictures as i possibly can.

This was just two fast pics... took a minute each, on my old old crap computer (it usually takes me 8 hours to put out a promo pic, and while i love using iray catalyzer for all my beloved Alessandro animals (please more animals Alessandro... i will always get them!) it does put my computer through its paces to keep up with it.

(pardon the pose floating, simply testing the hair, light, and speed of render)

Am I excited about this or what??? (That would be a yes. Expect to start seeing more cats in all my renders.)

It's super simple. load the figure with the hair, and render. ;) that's all i did!

In it's simplest form, it's not hard (But most of us go beyond simple).

First load the 'Daz House Cat' (not the 'Daz House Cat Base Only'), then add the Materials from the 'Complete' folder, now a pose, then you can simulate. HOWEVER, if the pose has one or more of the cat's feet off the floor, then make sure in the simulation pane that 'Start Bones From Memorised Pose' is OFF, otherwise the fur under the paws may stick to the floor- or you can just simulate the cat without a floor. Sometimes we have to adopt a stray, lost, or abused animal. Sometimes, they grow on you and age with your family and friends. Their fur gets a bit skimpy, they have medical issues, they occasionally miss the litter box, but they are there with their cuddles for the person that gave them a home.

As I watched the render form, I found myself remembering that. I think this is another step forward for the Millennium Cat. Yes, a cat with real claws would be nice, but this little guy was the right size, behaved nice and knew right where the best chair in the house was to keep warm.

Thank you to everyone who worked on this rascal.

PS: I forgot about Simulating completely! Load figure, material, pose, set, lights, render. Oops!

What's going on with that left front paw? Are those dForce hairs stuck to the floor? Do the foot pads have hair on them?

Easy if you are happy with the basics.

Oso3D already posted some tips specially about dfur in the 3rd  page, You should play with the fure settings if you don't like the basics, like this:

Yes, there are hairs on the paws. I did not check closely, to see how many hairs, as I don't think I'd ever use this cat for close up renders. If you check my second thumbnail. I show the same situation, but with the sim running without starting from the zero pose.

...scratch that last request.  Looks like it's only MilCat with dForce fur and in .duf format that no longer loads in with the size of a doberman.

Gosh golly gee, was hoping it was finally Cat 8 as we need a cat that bends like a real life cat (eg. has weight mapping and it's own Fluidos settings).

Anyway, my bank balance is 60¢ shy even with the Cat-20 coupie, and I don't bother with dForce as I have an older system.

So, since the early Daz days, we've had...

...three Dragons (and that "subdragon" critter)...

    ...two Horses...

    ...two Dogs...

    ...two Big Cats...

...two Cows (the latter, a morph of Horse 2)...

...but only one basic cat with 16 year old rigging and no weight mapping.

    We need Cat 8

    OK, I bought the cat.

    • Why are material settings that are categorized as "Hair Colors" changing the length of the fur?

Edit: I mean several of the color materials (not just the style materials) change the fur length. Like the white color makes the fur long. Why?

I am happy Oso3D made the effort the give the cat fur and would like all the legacy animals updated with furs

no argument there and if it had been promoted as such I don’t think anyone would argue

    just to be clear

Dog8 just set a precedent most expected other animals to follow with face rigging etc, the promo that leaked for some just set us up for something else, DAZ just needs to be a bit more transparent in their marketing, furs for the housemouse, the DAZ seal etc will sell with updated duf files just make sure it’s marketed as such. enlightened

    Well said!!!

I , like others, was expecting a new cat figure.

The description says you can use textures for the Millenium Cat. My initial experiments indicate that you can, but only if you don't use the dForce fur. When I tried appying a texture to the cat and the fur, the fur did change colour but it didn't pick up the pattern.

I suppose expecting the fur to accept textures designed for a flat surface is asking a bit much, but as far as I can see the fur is what makes this different from the Millenium Cat. So you might as well just keep using the old textures on the old cat.

Then again, I can't find a readme for this cat. Maybe there should be some hints in there on how to use the fur.

Still, all in all it is a nice cat, the fur looks great and the price is very reasonable.

If it's like the other dforce furred animals I've played with, you can manually apply the texture to the fur (need to do both root and tip IIRC) in the surfaces tab. Some additional color tweaking may be needed from there.

I do want to make clear that I did the initial hair and got the ball rolling, then a bunch of other people took it and ran with it.

My question of the day is will the DeForce fur work if you use 3DL? not Iray

sadly it goes to CPU for me after the first frame and 3Delight is waaay quicker with my rig CPU then but no 3Delight shaders, can render it white but thats it

    so white cats it is

I did do long fur though

    iray

it might be manually doable but I am not familiar enough with the shader
