Almost not complaining:  I think I've got complete visibility.  All four machines are now seeing and transfering in all directions.  However, in the process I had opened up permissions to "Everybody".  So, now I will take a break for the rest of the night and tackle reducing the folder/file permissions on folders down to something less than wide open.

The last problem I solved was that one of my Win10 machines does not support the "Stop Sharing" tab from the "Computer Management" dialog.  It is apparently using the new "Give Access To" mechanism at the individual folder location.  I'm still stuck with some old entries in the "Shared Folders" list that are redundant.  But for now I can live with it.  Ooh, ooh, just had a thought, perhaps it's the difference between Win10-Home and Win10-Pro.  Checking now.... stand by.  Ah, yes.  I looked at the features on my other Win10-Home machine and it is the same as the one I'd been having trouble with.surprise  OK.  Warm fuzzy feelings are returning.  I think I understand.  Hopefully I'll sleep well tonight.yes   Still some work to do, cleaning up the "Shared Folders List" and limiting permissions, but functionally everything's working hunky-dory.smiley

    ...curmudgeon time:

Unable to login through the Install manager (again), this time apparently for no reason at all .  I ran no cleanup utilities or anything since I last used it (which is usually what in the past seemed to keep messing it up), so there should be no reason for it to fail to sign me in. I checked all the settings in the users/appdata/roaming/DAZ3D/Install manager  folder and everything looks like it should be, so I have no idea why or how it broke this time.

I've seen the Mega Six Assassin Droids from the Swiss Colony on Ganymede... but I wasn't aware they made smaller versions... As a gift or a "gift", I'm sure the recipients will be surprised.

  • Complaint:  Arghhh... I still hate Microsoft networking.angry HOWEVER, I've found a big whip to back it into a corner.  This morning when I turned on all four of my Win10 machines they happily found each other and shared files with each other UNTIL I turned on password protection and enabled media sharing on the machine that holds all my music.  After that one machine (the music host) could see all the others but not talk to all of them.  And the other machines were a hodge-podge of who they could see.  One could only see itself.  The remaining two could see each other but not the other two.  Arghhhhh.....crying

I tried turning off password protection for shared files but that didn't help.  I tried disabling the media sharing on the one machine on which it was enabled but it just disables it and doesn't apparently turn it off back to its virgin off state.

But then I got serious and pulled out my whip.  I found the "Reset Network" option again.  So, I reset the network on all four machines.  Rebooted them all.  That completely turned off the media sharing option but  also reset all machine networks back to "Public".  So, I had to go in and flip them back to "Private".  Probably wouldn't have mattered since I'm in a well protected LAN but security is layer upon layer...indecision

Everything's working again.  Yay! yes  At the present time I suspect that the problem was not the password protection, but rather the Media Sharing because once the Media sharing was all back to its virgin (off) state my computers again can all see and talk to each other.  Go Figure!   Arghhh... I hate Microsoft networking.no

Non-complaint:  Yay!  Another network demon exorcised.  All this network sharing falderall was driving me batty.  I had one machine that was insisting on sharing its media files despite my having reset the networking configuration on each machine and disabled Media Sharing via the Advanced Network Sharing dialog.  Every other computer on the network was receiving an icon in the "Devices" list that corresponded to several shared folders from the errant computer that insisted on sharing its files.

After reading Internet forums and watching numerous YouTube videos, (with ever diminishing hope of ever finding a solution) I finally read someone who said "Just turn off the Windows Media Sharing Service" directly from the "Services" dialog on the errant machine.  I did, and my problem went away immediately, on all other computers.  Yay!  Apparently when one does a "Reset Network" operation and it disabled the Sharing configuration, it forgets to disable the sharing service itself.  Perhaps this is a complication of a machine having been upgraded through several versions of Windows (i.e. 7 to 8 to 8.1 to 10)

In my search for a solution I found the least help at the official Microsoft help forum.  Either the "helpers" on that forum can't read the description of a person's problem, so they give answers for problems not described.  Or they can only spout canned replies that the user had said he had already tried and that didn't work.sad  The most help was from real users on other forums who have dug into the dirt and grokked what was going on and were able to return to our world and relay their findings.yes  Yay for real people.

    ..yeah always something like that.

Same for the Install manager woes I had last night.  Checked everything all over again, removed the existing .ini from the main Install Manager folder (as it became corrupted somehow), signed in manually (which created a new .ini), and it worked again. Definitely must be a bug in the software which for some unknown reason doesn't like my system or setup.

All this network falderall is only because I wanted to update my DAZ content across the network from my old primary machine to my new primary machine.  When I started looking, I saw chaos in my network connectivity.sad  I can't stand chaos.  If I notice it's broken, it needs to be fixed.   But now, perhaps, after a half week of futzing around I might be able to finally do a proper network transfer of that huge database. (*sigh*)indecision

bread when first frozen and then toasted actually alters the carbs in it to make them healthier,  so maybe  cheese garlic bread would be the same

Of course it doesn't make any difference to the cholesterol    but cheese was always himself's guilty pleasure  so a cheese toasite made with frozen, wholemeal bread was only half bad for his weight and blood pressure. He wasn't diabetic.

Probably just coincidence, but I accidentally touched the link as I was swiping up, and it gave me an "Oops!" error.

Incidentally... lately at least one out of three items I click on in the store, gives me one of those oops errors on the first try... it's probably just me... I have a very  negative attitude and devices tend to be intimidated by that.

It's true but you have to eat it while hanging over the sink upside down... usually it's safest to use those old fashioned gravity boots or one of those mission impossible rigs.

Make sure you screw it into the studs or you'll fall into the sink.

Don't bet your life on it.

I'm foreseeing that becoming a new reality show... "You Bet Your Life"... you bet your life on dumb internet rumors... if you are wrong you get dropped into a vat of lava... if you are right, you win a luxurious 1970s velour Broyhill living room furniture ensemble... or a lime green Pinto.

not sure what rag doll is about

When she was just a kid
    Her clothes were hand-me-downs

They always laughed at her when she came into town
    Called her rag doll
    Little rag doll

Such a pretty face should be dressed in lace
    Ooh, ooh ooh ooh ooh
Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh
