Erhmm BTW. Could you people please reach an agreement with regards to what animal or being will take over the world.

In case I survive this thing, I would like to prepare and thus need to know what overlord I have to praise.

I would suspect that a bovine lord require different gifts than a T-rex. Or if manatees takes over the  world, I should study how to grow seagrass.

    Octopus, squid and other cephalapods.

Most aquariums that have attempted to keep octopuses have tales to tell of their great escapes – even their overnight raids of neighbouring tanks for food. Godfrey-Smith writes of animals learning to turn off lights by directing jets of water at them, short-circuiting the power supply. Elsewhere octopuses have plugged their tanks’ outflow valves, causing them to overflow.

This apparent problem-solving ability has led cephalopods (particularly octopuses, because they’ve been studied more than squid or cuttlefish) to be recognised as intelligent. Half a billion neurons put octopuses close to the range of dogs and their brains are large relative to their size, both of which offer biologists a rough guide to brainpower.

  • You misunderstood what I said, I said that people are cherry-picking information from sources like this and posting only the parts that will fan the flames. I couldn't read the entire article since I do not have a subscription to the New York times, but I saw enough that they were doing their own spin on it to sell papers. I am not one of those that think this is fake, but I am also nto one of those that think this will be over soon. I think this is going to be a threat well past summer and into fall before a handle is found to bring it under control but I don't think worldwide deaths will top a million and this report is saying 2.2 in the US alone.

People are too easy to panic anymore thanks to the internet, there are so many disreputable news sources' out there on the web that anything can be spun into a worldwide panic just to garner likes and follows so they can be the top trender in social media.

There are already reports of better tests that offer less ‘false negatives’ and clinical trials of new drugs that could offer a vaccine to stop it.

I also want to point out that most of these think tank type groups only work on ‘worst case’ scenarios, because that is what gets the most attention.

Heh, "social media". How long before Statler & Waldorf step up and say, "You know, the world's not half bad! Its all bad!"

This is just ridiculous how its being handled. I don't know who is worse, the general population or the various news outlets. Do we really need a 24/7 hour by hour, death by death coverage? The way I see it, regardless of whether or not the virus is in one's area, people should still be practicing the guidlines put out by the CDC to minimize the spreading. I think in a real crisis, this country would tear itself apart.

The current drug trials are for treatments with existing drugs to reduce the duration and severity of the disease.  Vaccines are for the prevention of infection and will take longer to develop.  One has nothing to do with the other.

I read an article that says that "By the end of the summer, the pandemic will have directly killed 2.2 million Americans" that is frightening if even close to the truth considering we are only at 1288 deaths so far..

I am kind of curious how they can come up with those numbers. That seriously sounds like fear mongering, especially since the current number of deaths is under 2000.

Yeah, doesn't sound like sound reasoning to me either.  Somebody with an agenda.  In the whole world the death total today is only 30,000 and is already slowing down in China and even in the US.

China had  a rise of 175 new cases and today since you posted total deaths are 33,968 almost 4k higher in half a day.  At age 21, when I applied for a Federal Business Development Bank loan to finance building a 3 floor flowershop, they made me take a business development course based on 6 credentials. One of those course was projections. They teach you how to an analyze future projections based on past performance and sales. You take the start figure, the time frame and the end figure within that time frame and accurately project expecedt future occurrences/performances/sales. For example, deaths in America were 1000 over a month but in two days they doubled to 2000, so this changes the formula for projections meaning in the future the rate of acceleration will be more than double a day. The virus killed a 25 yr old La Quinta, San Diego, California pharmacy tech, with no underlying health issues, in self-quarantine. The disease kills the young and healthy too, and while we think we can use Amazon to save us their warehouses and drivers have been tested as positive and yet the company is seeking to hire 100k more employees, and keeping the latest facilities that tested positive open for business. FYI the virus lives on carboard 24-72 hours. Which makes me wonder if I order a takeout of a pizza, that according to a large francise, isn't touched once it leaves the oven, how does it get in the box, and in the vehicle, and to your door?

Underlying conditions like compromised immune systems, diabetes, hypertension, cancer treatments, COPD and asthma, and 40% plus obesity is a threat to recovery. But recently an infant died so it doesn't just targety the elderly, it targets all ages, the weak and the healthy.

I once watched my pet Raccoon untie about 20 knots on a rope harness with those little hands, just for grins.  He would do something very human-like, and turn to me and grin, to mess with my mind. Yeah, they are just waiting for us to clear out. They have plans.

You appear to be thinking about the box, whereas the franchise seems to be referring to the actual pizza.  Once the pizza is out the oven, the employee angle the pan so the pizza slides off the pan straight into the box.  The employee then slice the pizza holding the cutter only.

...there was an article this morning that hinted at a possible resurgence due to people returning home from abroad.  A number of airlines have been operating what some refer to as "rescue flights" to get people back to their home countries. Indeed, there have been an increasing number reports of younger people being seriously affected as well, something that earlier on was not expected to occur as the primary warnings were for the elderly and those with compromised immune systems. .

Rule #1 for Internet and Social Media: don't believe anything that comes without a source given.

Rule #1a: "They say..", "People say..", "I've read somewhere.." and other statements like that aren't a source.

Yup. Social media is not a reliable news source.

In times like this it is useful to remember the Wizard's First Rule:  "People are stupid.  They will believe anything they want to believe or are afraid might be true." (paraphrased from "Wizard's First Rule" by Terry Goodkind)

Funny, I am reading The Sword of Truth books again these days. I recently watched the Legend of the Seeker TV show again and I just couldn't help making the jump to the books.

For those who are suddenly in need of employment.... Where I live the grocery stores are hiring and food venues are hiring. Fast food places and similar need delivery drivers. These are of course not what most desire for a long term career but it can get you by for now.
  • U people are not really helping.

    The list is now:

    • Zombies (Classic, but a bit meh)
    • Dinosaurs (This would explain why we have not had any nessie sightings in recent years. She has gathered all needed info and are now preparing for the coming assualt.)
    • Cows (Well most people kinda had it coming, and I accept my fate)
    • Various lifestock or other wildlife mammals (quolls, deer, critters, etc.) ( too many possible reason to really qualify them)
    • Squids (I assume here, that they are the vanguard for Cthulhu or the Kraken. Or both if we are lucky)
    • Racoons (Now they do not have opposable thumbs, but that is most likely a ploy to confuse us. I can see that a more evolved breed of them, with opposable thumbs, would be ready to make a move)
    • Cats??!?! Why?

Again, this is not helpfull in any way.

I still have hope that we can reach consensus, and plan for the coming overlord laugh

(I might be having a slight case of cabin fever).

.Herbivores usually get along, its the carnivores that cause most the problems.

That's just herbivore propaganda... it's a ploy to lull you into a false sense of security.

I've seen some pretty sleezy goats, and a really nasty cow now and then..... strangely, the media will not say a word about it.

That's right!  Some herbivores are faking it.  One of my sons told me that many are "opportunistic carnivores".  He then supplied me with video links (YouTube and others) showing deer, cows, squirrels, etc. eating dead mammals.  They are sneaky.  They try not to leave witnesses.  While you are practicing Social Isolation, don't trust your livestock.  Don't fall asleep outside!

...I've seen a few where deer actually eat live birds as well as beat people up..

Fear the Deer. those big brown eyes are just a ruse.

Driving to work one morning in the winter (a few years ago) I had to slow down to a crawl as I was passing through a stretch of road where I counted 11 moose, all totally calm, some standing up on a small hill, some on the road, some resting on the ground.... each had a rocket propelled grenade. I was sweating bullets. Thank God the truce held. For some years now, we have had an on again, off again insurgency with the moose and beaver (they have been blocking roads with their dams flooding areas, then ambush the guys sent to repair rhe roads)..... though strangely, again there have been no reports in the media. No one goes outside of the cities here. We have gone back to ships supplying communities along the coast.
