Just came across this new character and it looks very good indeed, and would say the male counterpart to Honni 8.. And this new character is so new that it has yet to show up on the front page got this notification from the purple banner.. Interestingly there seems to be two different bundles, a wild bundle and a weird bundle have to wonder what the differences will be..

There's some weirdness going on. Many items were listed with a non-defined price, etc.

  • jakibluejakiblue Posts: 7,281

Well, I can't work out my correct discount, from the banners. I did put them in the cart, but I'm kinda hoping my discounts aren't applying cos hooley dooley, they are expensive at that price.

  • margravemargrave Posts: 1,822

And it includes the Western Guns set, which was just made two weeks ago for the Honni 8 bundle. Looks like it's going to be another bundle with some old products mixed in.

The bundle is only showing four items at the moment, one of which I own.

I have 3 "purple banner" exclusive offers related to today's bundles.  Check your Daz messages.

Check the description below - it does list them all, but they just aren't showing the images.

Yeah, I've clicked on the links and checked the individual items.  It looks alright, I will probably go for this one if the price is right.  Even the poses look useable, unlike that ridiculous pose last week of a guy holding two Peacemakers sideways, gangsta style.

Edit: They can keep that bloody monster though. surprise

What the heck is wrong with his knees? Why are they so red?

And why is he so tanned? Doesn't wear those hats and shirts much, huh?

The shape can be used with other skins, of course, but still - bizarre.

I don't get the new Daz model - the first character of a pair gets a Pro bundle, but the second character gets rando bundles instead. First Kayo/Kwan, and now Honni/Holt.

Why not release both characters at the same time, neither with a Pro bundle, and do something like the Aliens vs. Troopers structure from the get-go? Be better than this, at least.

The store's not done settling yet.

  • Finally, a nice tin star.

The outfits seem okay. At least we have a few slightly different styles from prior outfits.

No new holsters, no new guns. No appropriate formal wear, like a suit or a Union cavalryman's uniform.
I hope the Sunset Rider poncho is more than "let's simulate a sheet with a hole", but meh.

At least Banker's Outfit isn't dforce.

Can we STOP with the dforce for no good reason?

Sunset Rider's chaps. I hope that's not expecting me to simulate via dforce. Genesis 3 Cowboy and Luthbel's Desperado have more detailed chaps without needing dforce.

What is all the dforce getting us? I just don't see the benefit in the pants, vests, shirts.

    We're letting Daz know.

Jeans don't need dForce - very few pants, except maybe wide legged fashion ones - need dforce. dForce is starting to bug me.

A cowboy themed bundle with no gun holsters - except in the Fire Marshall outfit but that holster isn't a low one, like cowboys. Plus there's some massive poke thru in the promos which doesn't instill much confidence in me in using it.

And what the heck is with male pants nowadays?? Cyclinders for legs, and no detail.

Cause men's stuff doesn't sell well, so why bother making it quality. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Seems like they're leaning hard on the characters--I could seven of them (excluding the monster). Even if somebody's not wild about the western milieu, they still get a bunch of rugged manly man models.

As to the monster, I believe H.P. Lovecraft and Robert E. Howard did write some westerns, so it's pretty apt for a "Weird West" bundle.

Okay. There are two bundles. Wild West and Wierd West. Holt is in the first of these.

It apparently includes DAZ Horse 2, and some addons, so if you already have those, you will get a banner with a discount. There is only one hair, and two outfits *with* their texture add-ons. Two add-on characters, two pose sets, and an expression set.

Holt 8's promos show a lot of outfits which are not in the bundle.

The Wierd West bundle contins another hair, another pose pack, another outfit with its texture add-on, three add-on characters, two accessory packs (one of them steampunk), and an eldrich horror. So I suppose that makes four add-on characters. That's the bundle with the guns which came with Honni 8.  If you got that, you'll get a banner related to that as well. Peculiarly, this bundle *claims* to require Honni 8 Pro bundle (probably because of the guns) and the Johnathan 8 Pro Bundle. No clear idea why for that one.

The 2nd bundle's page doesn't show the outfit or its texture pack, but it's clearly listed as part of it.

There are NO independent Add-on products. Other than the base alone.

There is, however an offer for a much deeper discount if you buy both bundles together, and they throw in the Holt 8 HD add-on to sweeten the deal. And $30 store credit, to boot.

SInce I am a PC+ member *and* have nearly all of the Pro bundles already, the combined offer discounts brought the price down to $34 and change for each of the bundles if purchasesd together. Even though I cannot imagine ever having a use for an eldrich horror, that really appears to be the best deal on offer that I can see.

As usual I like the base character. I like most of the add-on characters, and both hairs are potentially usable. The conforming outfit I like quite a bit, and the others are kitbashable. Although the poncho of one looks like it *really* requires dForce. That and the other dForce outfit look like typical dForce outfits, but like I say, kitbashable.

I would like a list of some of the outfits used in the character base promo, though. I've probably already got some of them, but I'd like to be sure.

With three purple banners - 10% off Wild, 10% off Weird, 20% off one or 30% off both - comes to $79 exactly in my cart. Not enticing me to buy.

On a positive note, Nathan Fade Haircut looks really good - that'll be a purchase or at least wishlisted for future purchase.

    Thank You!

I can truly understand dforce for some things, but too many clothes need it now. Why would a catsuit need dforce? Why jeans or tight fitting clothes?

I also don't mind dforce optional outfits.

The main pic on the character page is Desperado HD for Genesis 3 Male. Same with Old Jeb.

I just bought it yesterday, and for a moment I was concerned that Daz dropped a great new longcoat right after I settled for a G3 version, but no, it just looks that good. Hence the "HD", I suppose.

  • Does anyone know why the weird west bundle says it requires Jonathan?

I like Holt and most of the other characters, but his skin is not competing with Dain or Vladimir or Floyd or Edward.

The problem with tubewear (all outfits except Mada's) is that it's not even suitable for background characters because it makes them look like SIMS. Daz needs to sponsor a How-to-Model-a-Proper-Collar symposium.

Another that is heavily featured in his promos is https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-caballero-outfit-for-genesis-8-males and bits and pieces of https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-giuro-vendetta-hd-for-genesis-8.

Speaking of the Holt 8 promo, what hair is he wearing in the epressions close-ups?  I also like the hair in the image of him wearing a blue shirt/vest with the rifle held on his shoulder.

But as for as I can tell, the beard/mustache aren't a part of his textures.

Plus 40$ store credit and free HD Holt if you buy both, but you get your credit back tomorrow for some reason.

$40 in store credit? It looks like $30 in store credit if you purchase both bundles.

  • Seams a fairly good deal to me, aside from all the recycled content, seams Daz is taking after some game developers (I'm looking at you Bungie). With the three banners and the $30 credit rebate you can get both bundles for the price of just the main one. What I'm wondering about though is how you get the HD add-on for free. I put it in the cart but no joy there, asking $20. Are you supposed to leave it out? The page says all items simultaneously.  I mean, it is probably one of the weakest HD add-ons I've seen, so it's not like it's all that much of an loss or incentive, I'll likely use a different character's one anyway to give him some definition. The face adds a bit, but the rest.... there's barely even any wrinkles in his hands which i where I find the most use in those addons, hands and feet, with lips being a close third.

All in all though, I like him a lot, as well as the characters. For $35-$40 bucks I'd say the characters alone are worth it to me. Gonna give it a night's sleep before pulling the trigger though to see about that HD thingy.

P.S. Buying that Horse Bundle all that time ago has sure paid off, there have been so many discounts from having that already... I can think of like three now at least. And for newer people that don't have some of that stuff already a pair of cowboy bundles is a great place to pick them up. Just wish there was maybe a new horse (character? morph?) or saddle or something to go along with it for those of us that have the noble steed already.

My guess is that it was supposed to be a related item, not required item.

  • LindseyLindsey Posts: 2,001

In the past offers for the free HD morph with Pro Bundle purchase it was automatically added to my product library, so it didn't occur to even add it to my cart and checked out without it.  I'm sure it will get added to my product library one way or the other.

I can truly understand dforce for some things, but too many clothes need it now. Why would a catsuit need dforce? Why jeans or tight fitting clothes?

dForce is a cloth simulator, which means it doesn't just drape things, it also realistically wrinkles them--which is useful for tight-fitting clothes.

However, I think most people (me included) have had one too many times where the dForce blew up and spewed vertices all over the scene, so we crank it way down by default because we can't be bothered taking the time and effort to tweak it for maximum effectiveness.
