Not a fan of the new product library layout

namffuaknamffuak Posts: 4,176

There's no writeup on the product anymore - most unfortunate, the order number and purchase date are missing. This is going to make submitting sales tickets significantly harder.

Am I the only one seeing this?

It may be like the login issue where they break it but when it's fixed it's better than before. Probably not, but maybe.

Nah, I don't care for that either. I don't see why every product needs to be advertising DAZ Central so very prominently. If I'm looking at my product library clearly I'm not interested in DAZ Central. I'm probably using Manual Install or DIM.

For those of us that rely on manual install, so that we can install product packages on machines that are physically and deliberately isolated from the internet, yeah I have absolutely zero interest in Daz Central.  And if manual downloads go away, I'll stop shopping at Daz3D.  It's that simple.

The small laptop that I use to connect to the internet currently does NOT have Daz Studio installed, as it's not well suited for such things, plus my relatively tiny hard drive is pretty much full in any case, so yeah...  I use a USB drive to download product packages to, and then transfer the packages to my Daz machine and install those using the DIM downloads folder on that machine.  Sure, it's not a 100% virus proof method either, but it's a lot harder to infect my Daz machine, which has a lot of stuff on it that I'd rather not lose...  I do backups, but after the last virus fiasco that I experienced, not to mention out of control Windows updates, well here we are...

This method has served me well for close to two years now, and my offline machine is still running like a champ.  I'll do the same with my next build, connecting it to the internet just long enough to get things set up, then isolating it as well.  Call me paranoid, but paranoid works for me.

Not displaying the info in the library & directing to the product page instead is a drawback because when products are eventually pulled from the store you won't have the info on what items come with the product you own.

I hated it when they stopped putting readme's in the product file . Sometimes you need the readme files.  I only do manual downloads and installs so I sure hope that manual downloads do not go away

No promises, but I've brought some of your concerns to the right people and they are considering some updates. It will have to go through the standard discuss/design/implement routine so it will take some time if they do like the suggested updates but the right people are aware.

  • I absolultely hate it.  I have > 11K products and lots of them don't even have product pages.  I use this all the time to remember what a product is, this makes that impossible.

...yeah as I have a custom library/runtime setup (I don't bother with Smart Content anyway) and issues with the IM, I have gone to manual downloads, so Daz Central is totally useless.

I hate it too. At the very least we need the link to the purchase order in order to submit CS tickets . And if it becomes too difficult to submit requests for refunds it will severely limited my future purchases at DAZ.

In the meantime wouldn't it be possible to roll back to the old format so that we at least would have a reference to our purchase order?

    ...yeah, that's (PO#) missing too.

More dumbing down. The info is already available, so it should be easy enough to implement. It's a couple of data placeholders on an html template used to generate the page. Nothing mind-blowing.

Absolutely insulting. I refuse to have DAZ Central on my computer, I am offended at having it continually thrown in my face.

I also am infuriated at the removal to the link to the product page. Since purchased content is hidden in the store by default, that link is the best way to double check on package contents and other information.

This is NOT making things easier for established customers. Please stop it. Give me back my link to the product page. A link to the posted Read Me on the download page would also be extremely welcome.

There is still a link to the product page.

At an absolute minimum the order number needs to be there, preferably as a link; the SKU and order date would be nice to have, especially for reference in a trouble ticket. Having all three in one easy to find spot is extremely helpful, to the point that the order number MUST be a link if the SKU and date are left off.

As for the write-up on Daz Central -- overkill. Put in a link each to the documentation center for Central, Connect, and Install Manager instead.

So stupid. I don't know why Daz insists on unnecessary changes
  • I thought it was some kind of fluke when I caught a glimpse of it earlier, it was too much of a dumpster fire to think they were serious about it.

I'm not laughing anymore. No purchase info will make submitting tickets way more difficult (the cynic in me wonders if that wasn't part of the intent behind this, discouraging us from returning products that don't work out for us or ones that never should have made it through QA), and they're clearly more concerned about trying to shove Daz Central down our throats than anything remotely sensible or useful.

I absolutely refuse to use that disaster of a utility, and I don't every single item in my product library screaming at me about it! I'm already mad enough at how inflexible DIM can be and how subsequently removing things from their multiple layers of stupid vanity folders breaks them in Smart Content, I've got no interest in something that'll effectively nuke my library and workflow.

I also need easy access to purchase information. I don't like to make returns, but sometimes I have to because I buy something that ends up choking my computer, or needs a higher version of DS than what plays nicely with my GTX card. Take away that ease and I'll return less, but that'll be because I'm buying less.

Daz Customer Service representatives in Sales Support are the nicest, most helpful I've ever encountered. Several PA's are continuing to make outstanding products that work as expected.

The product image in the Product Library is now smaller than before, but there's plenty of room for a Daz Central advertisement. Daz Central messed up a lot of people's libraries. If I have no information on a product I purchased, and it has been removed from the store, there is no other way for me to learn about it than trial and error. Quality Assurance has gone steadily downhill, while Tech Support has remained as inconsequential as ever.

Instead of removing the information we had in our Product Libraries, I would have preferred to have kept the information and have a search and categorization function ADDED according to NAME, VENDOR, CHARACTER, ENVIRONMENT, PROP, etc.

I hate the new page. We know Daz central exists, thank you very much. ...

I've also put in a ticket (for all the good that will do).

  • Hmm.

I suspect that everyone who wants DAZCentral has it installed by now. And anyone who doesn't, probably has good reasons not to (I have an internet isolated machine for my rendering), so pushing useless software in their direction is counterproductive at best.

As has been said before, removing descriptions from the download page for items no longer on sale is extremely irritating.

Removing invoice data and purchase date is downright unhelpful for items within the 30 day return period.

Is there anything good in the change? Well, the font is happier and less grown up, so won't scare off the children. Those same children who can't be buying stuff because they're too young to have credit cards. Personally, I am much happier with being treated like an adult and am repelled by 'happy, non technical' fonts in a semi technical environment. So my feeing is that the change is a mixed bag, varying between irritating, unhelpful and pointless.

Given that the shop software is going to be re-vamped, we must learn to enjoy the constant degradation of available information and user friendliness. After all, all change is good.

    Regards,

    Richard.

Oh no, this isn't a glitch?  I was really hoping this was a glitch!  Why did they take all the information away?

If this is a glimpse of what's to come with the new site, then I am both terrified and dissapointed.

Maybe they had too many refund requests?

    And that "Don't have DazCentral?" ... no, I don't and I won't ... thank you very much.

Agree with everything above. I wish they would even keep sale pages of products that are no longer in the store that say “no longer for sale” so we could still see all the promos and info about those products. It seems like all the changes they make to the site just makes things worse. I still hate that rolling banner, it drives me crazy on the iPad!

That is no longer a product library, it's nothing but a tasteless attempt to force people to use Daz central (in my opinion that is). Please bring us back our actual product library!

This may piss off some people, but most "designers", as in people who redo GUI for websites and apps, are comlete idiots and have no idea what the base customers want in terms of website/app useability.

Clearly this is more of a corporate push to get DC to more people and they're going to take away anything else that would grab attention. But they're so out of touch with DS users and how we depend on the information in our libraries that they don't consider the information they removed to be vital.

I've had so many of my programs/apps/sites ruined by "redesigns" that it's pathetic. One of my favorite gaming hubs is Steam. It was fast, efficient and the GUI worked flawlessly. Then they revamped it to look like some stupid mobile game with large fonts, even larger images and the removal of some of the best features. Now I hate Steams GUI with a passion.

A lot of products (old, new, recent orders, old orders) are not showing "Install Manager Ready", but they do show up in DIM. (I realize it is still new and bound to have some bugs, but there is no where else to discuss it right now.)

  • Dim ReaperDim Reaper Posts: 687

All of the order numbers are still there in "Orders" but as others have said, it is not possible to search by product.  I will add my voice to the number of people who do not have and definitely will not install Daz Central - I have always done my installs manually and intend to continue doing it that way.

This seems to be becoming a trend with tech companies, the idea of "we know what's best for you".  Apple have done this for years and Microsoft are doing this with Windows 10 updates.  I am very disappointed in Daz taking this approach and removing functionality and choice from their customers.

So they removed useful info like SKU, order number and product description (very useful for inactive products which don't have a product page anymore) to put another advert for DazCentral?

Seriously, how could they think it's a good idea?
