There have been some real monstrosities in the store this past month. I wish I could mean that in a good way, but alas.
Pass.
Laurie
I haven't spent a single dollar nor credit this month so far. Even when planets allined and there was some good looking flash sales, conditions or items changed in the middle and could not even take advantage of those.
Still not even used my coupons. Last month was nothing special and on the first week on regular sales we already had more interesting deals than this whole month.
I put together a cart this morning and then ditched it because I wasn't excited about the debuts and wouldn't benefit from half of the perks. I was hoping, though not expecting, that they wouldn't do a "surprise" extension this year. With all that's gone wrong -- bad sales, sales malfunctioning, and a relentless focus on DAZ products rather than PAs -- I'm not feeling very charitable or forgiving. However, with the (finally!) PA-centric category flash sales I've ended up spending... a lot this afternoon. $5 is lower than anything I've bought has gone in the past year and the majority are in the $30-50 range normally, though I did grab some lights that are usually $19-26.
I really had planned to just not buy anything today and wish that I had the bulked up library or the self-control to be able to just pass on things for an entire month instead of spending so much, but I'm still building mine and that means grabbing deals when I can. All the same, I have sale fatigue. Being tethered to the computer because flash sales are changing every hour is tiring and I kind of resent that DAZ seems to expect this of us.
It's called impulse shopping and they are the MASTERS. You will be assimilated, resistence is futile. That said and done, I managed to spend less than I ever have before. That is until they started playing hard-ball and dropped the prices of some stuff I really wanted and probably didn't need. And I really should ask for some money back because the stuff I bought yesterday is in the Flash sale right now. Sigh...
Oh yeah, they are the absolute masters. I frequently mention their love affair with impulse shopping and manufacturing a sense of urgency in the form of giving us sales and coupons that are implied to only run for one day, and then last for two... or three... or four... Since that's how coupons usually work here, one day, we all rush to buy things ASAP. Usually it works out but sometimes it doesn't, and there's no knowing when that'll be. Also, their refusal to tell us when sales begin and end plays into it so much.
The only thing I bought yesterday was the Variety Facial Hair because I have an immediate need for it, but I've definitely bought a few things this month that were or will be part of the sales today. Off Camera Shadows, both volumes of Skies of Gaia... There's no asterisk on these sales, so even if I didn't buy them a second time I can still ask for an adjustment, right?
You can always ask. Whether they respond favourably is a different matter.
Ouch. Well, I'll ask as nicely as I can, then. I'm still within the return period if nothing else.
Though, that really does seem like a thing that should either be covered under the 30-day guarantee or explicitly excluded across the board, not left to discretion. At least it's only three items, but the savings would have been enough for three additional flash sale ones.
DELETE
the "quietly" part pisses me off somehow. daz SHOULD make a notice about 1 month prior the "removal" so we can save (i.e. buy) an item we really want before someone gets "deleted" because since i don't print nor otherwise save my wishlist, i might not even know something has disappeared, so i won't necessary even look anywhere else, just have this weird feeling that there was something in the background of my mind... this should be mandatory, why are we kept in the dark???
I only bought 6 PA items, all in the first 2 weeks, most in the first few days. All of them had been wishlisted for a while. Then I got tired of all the promos that were ill-exceuted and/or required unwanted new items. Here's hopin the PC+ & holiday sales will have a lot of G3 items. (Funny how G3, which is still used by many, gets short shrift in promos & Fast Grab compared to G8 & pre-G3, but that's a gripe for another thread)
Yeah. Rendo's Clearance/disappearance can be dismaying, and 35% off isn't that impressive compared to sales that stack, but if something has been marked Clearance at least you've been given a fair warning.
Except that an item in Rendo's clearance no longer means it will be deleted soon. They abandoned that policy a long time ago. Now products are only removed if the PA requests it, or there is some kind of falling out between the PA and the store. Really they need to change the name from clearance, as it is pretty misleading.
Their clearance prices are weird. They show 35 off on the product page, but they're almost always lower in my cart.
Do you have Prime over there? We get 55% off the original price of clearance items, but it doesn't show up as a Prime price on the product page like it does with non-clearance stuff, only in the cart.
Sales aren't good on clearance items and I've never seen those vendor sale prices apply to them. The exception of course is the specific clearance sales, when the whole category drops to $3.50. I always go crazy during those, unless I get a better daily clearance price on something through Prime.
I still buy more through DAZ just because of the easy return policy and tendency toward higher discount levels (though base prices are also a lot higher most of the time), but $3.50 clearance is good for textures, plus a whole bunch of stuff from PAs here who also sell over there.
Actually, they've discontinued the automatic disappearance part of it. Also, from what I've been told, PAs now have the option of placing items in the clearance section or not.
Yeah, the way Clearance Items work at rendo is still funky, but apparently the idea now is that the artists can drop the "regular" price on some items but not end up practically giving them away when there's a big sale or coupon.
The 3.50 clearance sales are awesome, as are the various BOGO sales. Ther's a lot of great older stuff at Rendo that may take a little work to make it work in Iray, but has never been duplicated any place else.
Yes, I do. Thanks for clearing that up.
Harsh lol.
For me, it's been the least exciting sale all the time I've been here.
There have been some nice items, but no 'must-haves'.
I wasn't planning on buying the futuristic kitchen, but I gotta say the promos made me laugh out loud - hilarious with the arms adding a pinch of salt and swatting at the fly
And comes with a lot of good kitchen stuff
exactly - while the price/discount can be a matter to discussion, the important part is that you get a warning. AND it's visible directly from your wishlist.
Hark! ... onnen.
"Bring me that floating fatman, the Baron!"
Just in time to ride the growing "Dune" wave ...
As Cybersox and others discussed above, Rendo no longer removes many clearance items from clearance. But back in May, Mihrelle closed her Rendo store without warning. One day there, next day gone. I consider that an unfortunate loss.
So did Angel_Wings, but at least she's mulling over the idea of bringing her characters here.
My understanding is that it never meant that it would be deleted *soon*. It meant that it would be deleted if the sales dropped below a certain point and stayed there. The 35% discount did bump sales on some of the things marked clearance. I can recall a few things that were marked clearance for over a year before they disappeared. As well as a few that vanished within a month.
what? Mihrelle closed her R shop? that's very unfortunate. there was very special stuff there you don't necessary find much. here there seems to be more hair than anything else... i wonder what disappeared from my R wishlist.. TT
We probably shouldn't spend all this time on Daz's forum discussing Rendo's store policy. They've put their policies in writing if anyone wants to check them out for themselves.

It's true. I agree! At the time, for whatever reason, I held back on getting more of her figures. I thought I had time. I see now I was mistaken.
I was thinking that. Good point. Mostly, I lament the closing of Mihrelle's R store.
Back on the subject of the PA sale... well, it's 3:30 and the broken sales are STILL partially broken, as a number of items are still in promotional categories that cancel out each other's promotions. It's like playing whack a mole.
