Maybe it's time to buy a shiny, new set of speakers. Bah, I'll stick with h/phones for now. I haven't had a great time when it comes to using speakers on my rendering computer.

It's been a bad evening for acid reflux.

    I want my bed...

I have GERD pretty bad and have for a few decades and garlic helps a lot. I take a garlic supplement and It helps quite a bit because it helps the growth of good bacteria in the stomach that fights it. However, if you take raw or to much it could cause some heartburn.

  • Sfariah DSfariah D Posts: 26,528

I have had heart burn problems in the past but I don't know if I still do as I take medicine for it on a regular basis.  Might ask my doctor to take me off that medication and let me take as needed medication from over the counter such as generic tums.

  • frank0314frank0314 Posts: 14,273

Eating too many Tums can cause quite a few problems. Stay on the meds. They are much safer and cause a lot fewer problems plus they are pretty inexpensive. The med cost about the same as a bottle of Tums. I'm on Omeprazole. You can even buy omeprazole OTC. Tums caused mine to get worse and now have too be on meds probably forever. I use to go through a big bottle of Tums a month.

Yeah, same here.  Big bottle of Tums every month.  I finally realized they were part of the problem.  So, after much internal mental struggle I decided to heed my doctor's long ignored advice.surprise  I stopped eating after 6:00PM.  I stopped eating chocolate after 3:00PM.  I stopped drinking carbonated beverages.  I stopped drinking coffee after noon. (I stick to tea.  Or decaf tea if after 6:00PM).  And I stopped eating huge portions.  I stopped sleeping on my stomach.  I haven't bought Tums or any antacid in several years.  Now I get acid reflux only on rare occasions when I violate one of those rules above.frown  In other words it hurts when I do that, so I don't do that anymore.enlightened

Same here, but without a doctor telling me what to do... I basically figured it out via cause and effect... and boy, did I cause a lot of effect.

I tended to eat like a wolf, snarfing down my food quickly and because I used to skip meals, I'd make up for it at whatever meal I did eat.

    A bad philosophy.

Dinner time is difficult, as we tend to eat late here, but I try not to eat anything past 10PM, unless I'm going to be up for at least two more hours minimum.

I gave up soda entirely, not because of reflux, but because it was apparently a huge contributor to my getting kidney stones... also noticed that one before I found any information on it.

Complaint... I've got a massive headache from my stupid neck vertebrae.

Noncomplaint... I just got back last night from a big wedding event in NJ... It was actually lots of fun... normally I hate going to weddings, but this was for my wife's cousin and it was mostly people I know and many I haven't seen in a while.

I got to drive a Maserati Grand Turismo for the wedding procession (called a Baraat... it was an Indian wedding)... in traditional Indian weddings the groom often rides a white horse to the ceremony, but nowadays many people opt for a convertible... and some family member or close friend will drive (slowly) while the groom sits on top of the rear deck and people dance and sing around the car as you proceed to the ceremony.

I roasted in the sun on Friday, but other than that it was fun... I actually danced (I'm a sucker for Punjabi music)... (and Salsa music)... I generally don't dance, but with a little bit of C2H5OH I'm more inclined... plus my wife's cousin in-law is great at getting people to dance.

I think I momentarily blew one of my daughter's minds, seeing me dancing... especially to Indian music, which even though I attended family functions and wedding and stuff I usually don't dance.

But now I'm probably paying the price for staying up late for couple of days... having lots of old injuries and getting older really catches up with you sometimes.

Non complaint; my chive seeds are starting to turn into real plants it seems.  It is a tad hard to see in the two pictures I attached but the little green things are actually chive plants. I must be doing something right to see these. (Aka using right soil and correct amount of watering.)

complaint I got into bed without brushing my teeth. Now I got to get up to go to the bathroom just to brush my teeth.

Non-complaint:  Wheee..., my new 16GB of 3200MHz RAM has arrived.smiley  Poppa-bear called "dibs" on the RAM so I helped him absorb it.  He and I agreed that installing it into momma-bear would be a waste because she has no easy way to take advantage of RAM faster than 2666MHz.  So, into poppa-bear it goes.  Yielding a total of 48GB of system RAM and which is now more than three times the 12GB of VRAM in his RTX-3060 graphics card.  (*Tim the Toolman monkey grunts*)yes

Also Non-complaint:  Went to my 55th high school reunion last night.  Attendence was really whittled down this time.  Only about 30 of 150 showed up but with spouses the room was lively enough.

Complaint:  The reunion committee decided it would be fun if they recovered, from dusty archives, the old class-song music and words and kindly passed out sheets of it so we could all sing along. (*groan*)  I asked around, hardly anybody ever knew that we even had a class-song.surprise  The participation was spotty at best.indecision

Non-complaint:  This time the food was excellent.  Not so for all the past reunions handled by the same reunion committee every 5 years.  And instead of going to the food building at the Rodeo Grounds (yes, we have rodeos here, horses, cows, bulls & cowboys) to park in the mud, for a cheap buffet with a record player and no-alcohol, the new reunion committee (formed after the 50th reunion's bru-ha-ha,... long story, 'nother time) booked us in a real restaurant with paved parking,  a proper banquet hall in the most popular and prominent spot on the shore on all of Chautauqua Lake, with a DJ and a proper bar.  At 73 we pretty much have learned how to handle alcohol and don't need to be controlled by chaperones.devil

I really liked the venue.  It wasn't pretentious but it was a large room, private, upstairs, with a long wall of windows overlooking the lake and the Interstate bridge over the lake and the quaint Victorian style nine car ferry**.  Much better than looking out at a field of three-week old cow and horse dung from the mess hall on the grounds of the once-per-year rodeo always held the first week of August.frown

**NoteThe current version of the ferry is from Victorian times, so cars were not its original freight, but it is big enough to hold 9 modern automobiles.

Image of ferry.  Established in 1811 and ran continuously every warm-weather season until the modern era where it has been out of service several times for repair of the boat or the underwater cable.  Was out of service for the last two years but is in service this summer.

Image of "Village Casino" at Bemus Point, Chautauqua Lake.  Ferry dock is just beyond the far side of the building.  Don't let the closeness of the shore fool you, this is the narrowest part of the 22 mile long lake that is mostly 1 to nearly 2 miles wide except at the ferry where it is less than a half mile wide between the villages of Bemus Point and Stow.

I need some sleep.  I will try to worry about popcorn tomorrow.

edit I was referring to an auction I was watching of Popcorn but fortunately I didn't win. I don't really need Popcorn anymore and need to probably wait to get my stuff I won already before I bid on eBay again.  Or take a good break for a month or more from eBay.

...sounds like a good time.  Haven't attended any of my class reunions as it means having to travel 1,800 miles to the east and sleeper car fares on Amtrak are ridiculous expensive these days (feel that flying today is for the birds, contortionists, and amateur prize-fighters).

...on a more sobering note,  Hurricane Ida made landfall today in Louisiana as a Category 4 storm (one late estimate mentioned it may have been Cat-5 when it hit).  It is still a large and dangerous storm (currently catagory-3) as it pushes inland just to the west of new Orleans which has already seen major damage including in the historic French Quarter. After earlier landfall, the storm slowed down, almost becoming stationary over Houma south of New Orleans battering the area with prolonged heavy winds for a couple hours. Power is out in many areas of the state including the city.  This is considered the most powerful storm to hit the region in nearly a century.  A wind meter in Houma was destroyed just after it recorded sustained winds of 148 mph.

New Orleans is expecting up to 10" of rain and flooding on top of hurricane force winds of 90 mph which is a major concern as much of the city is 6- 7 ft below sea level.  So far levees are holding. To put that much rain into perspective, if it was a couple degrees below freezing, each inch of rain would be equivalent to 10" of wet snow, which would bury the city under 8 ft 4 in.  It is good hurricanes do not occur in such cold weather.

The state capitol at Baton Rouge is also under serious threat, primarily from the heavy rains as it is along the Mississippi River and has a number of low laying areas that flooded several years ago when another hurricane passed through the state. Ida also has an unusual feature in that it has formed a "double eyewall" which while weakening it somewhat, expands the area of the storm's strongest winds.

Though overshadowed by Ida and other news, Hurricane Nora struck the west coast of Mexico yesterday near Puerto Villarta (which is near where the mother of one of my good friends lives) with strong winds and storm surges. While not as strong as Ida (category 1) is is still a very a large storm with tropical storm strength winds along with torrential rain extending out to 160 miles from the eye.  Rainfall amounts are expected to be even higher than Ida with a maximum of 12" forecast and in some areas up to 20" which could lead to extensive flooding.

I haven't. I'm very picky when it comes to the taste and texture of stuff (plus there's the risk of it upsetting my stomach) so I don't get to try new things. So I usually stick to appIes. If I come across a can of ginger ale, I may give it a try. Thank you for the suggestion ^^

My stomach problems developed in my twenties.

Garlic gives me incredible heartburn (no matter how much I eat). It breaks my heart that I can't eat garlic bread/baguettes (I love them).

I've tried to take supplements in the past (for different things), but my stomach can't stand them. Supplements are pretty cheap these days, I might try a garlic one in the future. Thank you for the suggestion, too. ^^

We have no water. Some oik was digging up to lay cables, and burst a water main in the process. So now our water has been diverted to one of the holiday resorts over 20 miles away.

My OCD is screaming for me to wash my hands. I only have hand sanitiser, which isn't helping things as it's icky and smells like cucumber.

Eek! The Kitchen tap has just sputtered to life. The water is very brown. No water upstairs though.

Me, neither.  I used to fall asleep with a cup of tea in my hands, or a glass of Dr. Pepper, which has caffiene in it.  But then, I've been known to fall asleep while standing.

Non-complaint:  Music to DAZ by.  Conductor Leonard Bernstein at his animated and exhuberant best (and without music**) conducts an intense performance of Brahms' 1st Symphony.  Brahms idolized Beethoven and despite being a prolific composer, of other musical forms (sonata, concertos, chamber music, etc.) waited to compose his first symphony until he felt it could begin to compare to Beethoven.  He worked on it for over 20 years.  It's one of my favorites.  The 1st movement is exciting and the 2nd movement is light and relaxing.  The 3rd movement is haunting but it's the various expositions of the theme in the final (4th) movement that always touches me deep inside.  The 4th movement repeats and builds the main theme about every minute & a half and of course ends on a grand scale.  Beautiful music.heart  Throughout the 1st & 4th movements you can hear hints of what would eventually, years later, crystalize and be fully formed in his 4th Symphony and his "Academic Overture" (music at the end of the movie "Animal House" where the modified black Lincoln "tank" destroys the parade.)

    Brahms 1st Symphony:

    1st movement: 0:50

    2nd movement: 18:40

    3rd movement: 29.03

    4th movement: 35.25

I apologize for the interrupting YouTube commercials.  angry sad

**Note: conducting without music..., hmmm, isn't that what we all do in private at home when nobody's watching?devil  He does it much better.smiley
