Can't remember, but fairly recently.  The computer is just old.  Core2Duo CPU, cores running at 3.0 GHz each.  8G of RAM.  Monitor...I was told that a capacitor eventually wears out, and that's what is causing the long wake-up times.  Just don't have money.  I'm afraid to even try any of the new stuff with Iray.  Might just choke on it and blue-screen.  Nvidia card only has, I was told, 34 cores.  Plenty of drive space, though.

Yeah, I checked the info on that...my computer won't handle it.  I have to stay with W10.

Supposedly it will be available through normal update processes in early October.  HOWEVER..., distribution will be paced.  Also, you don't have to accept the upgrade, and I wouldn't for at least a year.  No need to rush either.  Win10 will continue to be available and supported and upgraded along the Win10 line for about 4 or 5 more years.  Yes, some computers will not be compatible.  Tough noogies.  Worry about it in 3 or 4 years.  Remember, if Microsoft tradition holds, Win11 will be the flop after the success of Win10, flop of Win8, success of Win7, flop of WinVista, success of WinXP, etc.

It's funny or maybe it's just I'm odd but my first experience with a computer was with WinVista ,and I really liked it I still would prefer it to Win 10 but that's just me I guess

I hate that!  My computer has blue-screened three times in the past week.  Not doing anything stressfull on it, just playing Solitaire one time.  Nothing big running in the background.  Just don't understand it.  Need a new computer, but don't have the money, so I have to suffer.

I've started gaming on mine. Nothing too taxing for the machine (I hope). Mainly Sonic Adventure 2 (Battle).

I was browsing Chrome at the time of my latest BSOD. I'm not sure if this is a coincidence, but this is the second time that I've had a BSOD, while using Chrome. In fact, I had to start using Firefox on my rendering machine, as I was getting errors when using Chrome (also, the computer wouldn't respond, and it probably caused a few random restarts).

I'm in the same boat as you, I can't afford to replace either of my machines. So I have no idea what I'm going to do if/when anything goes wrong :/

I don't think my machines will cope with Win 11. I had so many problems with Windows 10. My laptop performed better with it, than what my rendering machine did (and the laptop is the older machine).

My first experience was with Win95 (back in secondary/high school). My first home computer was Windows 3.1 - I get days where I miss that computer ^^'

I loved Windows 8. I got used to not having the Start button, and I loved the layout. But then it got changed to 8.1... I cried that day...

OK, my first computer experience was playing games on my wife's Commodor64 (was a Christmas gift from me)!  Found out I could make it do things (programming) and got a kick out of it.    Brother-in-law gave me an IBM compatible XT, which a friend instantly upgraded to a TurboXT.  First system?  DOS 4.0.  Then I got a copy of 4DOS, loved it.  Took a class called Introduction to Computers.  Really liked it.  Enrolled in course in Computer Science and got my AS in 1993.  Eventually I had gotten Windows 3.  And kept moving on from there.  Always got the Pro version of the OS, when they started doing that.

After a tiny bit of research, it seems that the TeamGroup "T253X2001T" 2.5" SSD is a bargain brand, but not terrible.  Not a technological rip-off, just less attention to perfection.  It's currently selling on Amazon for $84 but you can get the much better rated Crucial "MX500", 1TB 2.5" SSD for $99.  Or the Samsung "860 EVO" for $170.  And those last two are, I believe, both 3-bit per cell, storage technology.  I could't even find any information about the TeamGroup technology whether it was the longer lasting 3-bit/cell, or the newer and cheaper, but less resilient 4-bit/cell.  Something to keep in mind, next time.

    TeamGroup T253X2001T:  https://www.amazon.com/TEAMGROUP-Internal-Solid-State-T253X2001T0C101/dp/B07PX2KKHM

    Samsung 860 EVO:  https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-860-EVO-1000GB-Serial/dp/B079W9STXH/ref=asc_df_B079W9STXH/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=366315306136&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=2562023562606443094&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9005721&hvtargid=pla-702050097543&psc=1&tag=&ref=&adgrpid=75347436639&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvadid=366315306136&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=2562023562606443094&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9005721&hvtargid=pla-702050097543

Note:  The Samsung 860 EVO is a lot more expensive now than it has been in the past.  Probably because they're now rare, and Samsung is moving on to their 870 QVO line ($109) which is 4-bit/cell technology but being a storage technology leader they claim their QVO is almost as resilient as their EVO (3-bit/cell) technology. https://www.newegg.com/samsung-1tb-870-qvo-series/p/N82E16820147781?item=N82E16820147781&source=region&nm_mc=knc-googleadwords-pc&cm_mmc=knc-googleadwords-pc-_-pla-_-solid+state+disk-_-N82E16820147781&gclid=Cj0KCQjw7MGJBhD-ARIsAMZ0eet4YmA9VvZz-FPsvnUTDqOoPhCzHx6lDVu2r1UhAMf5ejM93kFBui8aAou5EALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

Well, if I wasn't feeling ripped-off about it before, I am now.

$84 is (around) £60 in the UK. That means the guy at the shop would've charged me £140, just to install it! angry

If I had a say in it, I would've had a Seagate 2TB. It's a good thing that I didn't. I dread to think what the guy at the shop would've charged for it! I also asked about upgrading the CPU (to a Ryzen). That was going to be around £500 (CPU, new compatible motherboard, and installation).

I'm shocked... I think I want to throw up...

Thank you for doing the research. It's been a real eye-opener.

I've found an 8TB Seagate SDD for £250 (only £50 more than the one had installed back in March).

If I knew what I was doing (and the failing HDD was easier to diagnose). I would've given the repair shop a miss, and gone straight for the 8TB Seagate SSD. *sighs*

** Apologies. I typed this up on Notepad, and ran out of time last night (at switchoff/bedtime) before I could post it.

Just had a BSOD: "CRITICAL PROCESS DIED" *Scratches head* So now I'm having problems with both my rendering machine, and my laptop... This isn't going to end well.

Oohhhh that's not good :(  Hopefully you can get it addressed, but if not... Wishing you best of luck with the problem either way :o

    Thanks ^^

I've been trying to look for the hardware troubleshooter to see if the computer itself can find anything. But I can't find it. I can troubleshoot everything else. Just not the hardware (thanks Microsoft).

Raptor-In-A-Box... it's like Chicken-In-A-Bucket, but cuter and tougher... Fossil evidence shows most of the small Dromaeosaurid Theropod dinosaurs used to love to snuggle up in cardboard boxes much like cats do today... in fact cats ripped off that whole shtick from the raptors, who pioneered that millions of years before.

Stop feeding me BS. Pretending that you were concerned. Mum told me that you just walked away and left her there, and I believe her She could've collapsed!

Oh why do I bother... I wish he'd go to sleep. It's not like he's taking in, or listening to what I'm saying.

Why do some people do that? Speak for the entire group of people? You don't speak for me.  You don't know what games I've played/the stuff I've watched. It's really annoying. Just stop it!

Why am I still doing this. It's not as if I'm any good at it. I don't have a broad imagination that quite a few other Daz users seem to have.

    I want my bed...

Toads are frogs; there is no taxonomic distinction between the two.

Maybe not but toads live most of their adult lives on land ,have dry rough bumpy skin and exude a toxin when attacked which will either kill the dog or cat that ingests it or make them high as $heet !! Frogs on the other hand spead most of their adult life in or around water ,damp , moist places, they have sleak smooth skin and their legs taste like chicken , then there are tree frogs who dispite being called tree frogs will invaribly land on the person who is most afraid of them ........ once had carpet frogs when I lived in Florida , little tiny frogs that would get in the house in to the carpet end up covered in dog hair and mummified ,unless you caught them and put them out

Did you ever hear back from Mysti? Everytime I check her profile it says her last activity is only a minute or two earlier than the time I check. It sort of looks like she has left her computer on and signed in to DAZ.

Sorry, but so far no... I hope she is okay... the last time she was in the hospital she was there for a couple of weeks... hopefully she will be back soon and let us know how she's doing.

Maybe she shut off her monitor, but put the computer to sleep after reading the forums and thought it was turned off completely before she left... I hope that's all that is.

Also sorry that I didn't notice this sooner, I was reading back a few pages to see what I missed and found this.

Why so "cheap" compared to a similar Asus GTX-1050Ti  ?surprise

Ah ha!  it's an unbranded product.enlightened  What's my risk?  (Yeah, yeah, I know it's not good for gaming or DAZing), but for what it is, why would I spend twice as much for a brand name?  Could this thing actually work reliably?  Or is it a retired/crippled grunt from a BitCoin-farm "try-it-and-see" item?frown

Yeah, that's what I noticed.  And there's no indication that I can find of the manufacturer on any of the photos.  Can't even be sure it's a real Nvidia GTX-1050 inside.  Any idea what the price of a 4GB "GTX-1050Ti" was before the graphic card boondoggle?  The only reason I'm looking at it is that it is (hopefully) better than the 2GB "GT-1030" card I have.

But the question I keep coming back to is "do I really need a better card for that machine?".frown  I know my "wants", but my "needs" keep putting up a fight.sad  And, of course, it ships from China with a 30 day delivery estimate.sad

Edited to add: And, I also keep coming back to the fact that in my "baby-bear" machine, it only has 3 PCI slots.  I currently have a single-wide GT-1030 graphics card installed but if I try to replace it with a double-wide graphics card, it covers two of the slots (poor motherboard design) forcing me to remove one of the other cards I currently have installed. (*sigh*)no

I think the question should be, what does the 4GB GTX 1050TI do that the 2GB GT 1030 doesn't?

Edit; Checked at the local online store and the GTX 1050TI is 200eur (VAT 24% included) and GT 1030 100eur (VAT 24% included)
For comparison, the 12GB 3060 is from 600 to 800Eur (VAT 24% included)
