Anybody hear from Mysti or McGyver yet? They are on western Long Island  outside NYC and probably got flooded. I hope they are OK. And @ Dana: I also hope the flooding didn't get you.

Thank you, for your concern, I'm fine... we really didn't get much flooding here and I'm on very sandy ground so rain based flooding usually less of a threat... I was actually having forum problems earlier, so sorry if this is a very late reply... I tried to send a reply earlier by it got Clownflared.

I'm hoping Misty is okay... I'm wondering if when she mentioned about being interested in that hospital last week, she was considering checking in there... I'm thinking back on her wording and maybe she decided to go in for some mending... it seems like since she wrote that she's been absent... but then I haven't been here too much for the past week or so...

I hope everyone here who was in the storm's path fared well and didn't suffer any bad luck.

Thanks again for your concern and be well.

Yeah, Huntington is on the north shore... that's where I thought she lived (more or less)...(that or Patchogue)... Another one of my friends lives in Huntington and they were okay, but he is more or less on high ground... the town of Huntington is fairly hilly and depending on where you live, it can be really dicey in torrential rain or a bad storm.

I remember that incident of flooding in her kitchen, I think it was, because the entry was sort of sunken in the ground a bit and a bad design that trapped rain water.  I think that was just a rainy day, nothing like what just passed through.  I hope you're right and she checked into that hospital.

....I had a college friend who lived in Farmingdale who I visited for a week back in summer of 1976.  We planned a day at Jones Beach, but there was a "sludge alert" which closed the beach for several days.  Got to see the tall ships that were there for the "Buycentennial" though.

Took the train there (the early years of Amtrak and it was terrible).  Arrived about 4 hours late and that was after making up a little time on the NE corridor (we were actually passing Metroliners which were the fastest trains they had then).  Through Indiana and Ohio we crawled along at something like 20 mph in a number of places as the tracks were in such bad condition.  Ended up cancelling the return train trip and flying back out of JFK to Milwaukee (on a 747 no less, quite a change).

    [bugger, yet another Clodflare timeout].

...on a more sobering note,  Hurricane Ida made landfall today in Louisiana as a Category 4 storm (one late estimate mentioned it may have been Cat-5 when it hit).  It is still a large and dangerous storm (currently catagory-3) as it pushes inland just to the west of new Orleans which has already seen major damage including in the historic French Quarter. After earlier landfall, the storm slowed down, almost becoming stationary over Houma south of New Orleans battering the area with prolonged heavy winds for a couple hours. Power is out in many areas of the state including the city.  This is considered the most powerful storm to hit the region in nearly a century.  A wind meter in Houma was destroyed just after it recorded sustained winds of 148 mph.

New Orleans is expecting up to 10" of rain and flooding on top of hurricane force winds of 90 mph which is a major concern as much of the city is 6- 7 ft below sea level.  So far levees are holding. To put that much rain into perspective, if it was a couple degrees below freezing, each inch of rain would be equivalent to 10" of wet snow, which would bury the city under 8 ft 4 in.  It is good hurricanes do not occur in such cold weather.

The state capitol at Baton Rouge is also under serious threat, primarily from the heavy rains as it is along the Mississippi River and has a number of low laying areas that flooded several years ago when another hurricane passed through the state. Ida also has an unusual feature in that it has formed a "double eyewall" which while weakening it somewhat, expands the area of the storm's strongest winds.

Though overshadowed by Ida and other news, Hurricane Nora struck the west coast of Mexico yesterday near Puerto Villarta (which is near where the mother of one of my good friends lives) with strong winds and storm surges. While not as strong as Ida (category 1) is is still a very a large storm with tropical storm strength winds along with torrential rain extending out to 160 miles from the eye.  Rainfall amounts are expected to be even higher than Ida with a maximum of 12" forecast and in some areas up to 20" which could lead to extensive flooding.

IDA made landfall as a CAT 4 storm near Houma, LA.  The area including New Orleans and Houma was hit hard.   Grand Isle is pretty much destroyed, and it is a miracle that some people who stayed managed to survive.  New Orleans lost a high tension tower that supported the 8 major power feeds to the city, and that will take a long time to replace.  So far, all of my family in the New Orleans/Destrahan/Houma/Thibodaux area is ok, even those that did not evaculate, and their homes are still standing but damaged (mostly roof damage so far).  I only had one evacuee at my house this time, as I was just too close to the storm path.  The storm jinked East as it neared Baton Rouge, and we had less wind and much less rain then we expected, and the damage was not as severe as we anticipated.  Both of my immediate family's homes are ok, with little damage, and we got power back yesterday evening.   Had we not taken down vulnerable trees eariier in the year, it would have been different.   However, this meant that Walker and Denham Springs took more damage due to the change in path.  So far all friends in that area are ok, but with property damage.

The storm cut a sad path of death and destruction all the way to New York.  I am glad to see McGyver and others in harm's way are ok, and hope Misty is too.

We are all very thankful for the convoys of line crews that have been arriving from other states to aid in repairs, including a family member from South Carolina!

...when I was living in New Orleans back in the late 70s, I experienced my only hurricane, a Cat 1 storm named Babe which made landfall just south and a little west of the city. As the eye was small it lost strength relatively soon after landfall weakening to a tropical storm.. it still was an interesting experience as you could see the clouds moving in a circular pattern and hear the winds aloft.  The biggest danger was tornadoes which it spawned after moving inland.

Miraculously the city was spared the heaviest rains which fell east and west as well as north of Lake Pontchartrain.

In 1997 I experienced a Nor'easter while at Wildwood on the New Jersey coast after a major kite festival in early October which actually had stronger winds and caused more serious flooding than the Hurricane did.  Many of us had to wait an extra day until the roads were clear to get back to Philadelphia to fly to wherever we were going.  The Hotel I was at let everyone stay free for an extra night due to the conditions and as it was the end of the season, they also decided to feed us for free to use up of as much of the food the had before shutting down for the winter. The night before, the windows were rattling all night (my room faced the ocean) and in the morning when I woke up, the beach was basically under water all the way up to the main roadway (from the low tide waterline to car park across the roadway is a about as wide as an American football field is long),

Her last posts were on the 24th of August and she said "I want nuns looking after me"... I'm guessing that could imply some sort of stay at the hospital.
I feel bad for her because she had a terrible experience with hospitals before and she is pretty terrified of them... but at least she is being taken care of if that's the case.

I'm gonna send her a PM on behalf of the Complaint Thread in case it takes a couple of days for her to get back online, and also to let her know we are concerned and wishing her well.

I feel like a busybody doing that, but in this case I think it's not too weird to do.

    Genuine Frickn' Complaint:

What in the name of Zeus' Sweaty Armits is going on with the freaking Cloudflare Bad Gateway errors and slow loading pages here?

Geez... it's like painful to deal with.

    Gah!

It's the "Cloud"... You can never accurately predict, where the winds are taking them.

Looking forward to commenting about the new cloud based MS service that is planned to function as our new ERP, I'll probably make a lot of new friends again devil

Complaint, even with the computer doing it's best, it's just 20C (68F) inside, not looking forward to start the 9 month long heating season...

The old spinning hard drives were much better at warming up the place.

I came across an old cartoony image I made suggesting the next incarnation of the DAZ octopus logo (thats what it is right?)...

So I decided to sculpt a 3D version...

Which is less weird than the Dazhulhu version...

    I need a different hobby...

I feel like it is over.  I am afraid that somebody will take away my freedom and then say it is all my fault and I deserve this treatment.  I am afraid there is nothing I can do about it.

I feel like I'm relatively safe,  given I currently have a fairly narrow window of interests haha;  but sooner or later I'll need some human figures yeah...  The C4D Bridge doesn't work very well right now but it's enough to at least get figures out - ones I have to do a lot of tweaking on but it's better than re-rigging them from zero haha

    Also, shark.

I wish I could offer some sort of advice,  but I... Aaah,  the others here probably have more worthwhile and intelligent things to say that'd help you out...  I know that I've had similar thoughts a lot when I was younger though :<

Naw, it's the Swimming shark one;  just checked and it finally published it and double-post published at that haha, oop.  Deleted the duplicate~

Shouldn't have taken so loooong but maybe the gallery's suffering from lag right now or something? :o

I just refreshed my gallery, and it looks like the layout has changed slightly, so maybe the site change was holding up your upload?

Non-complaint:  Wheee..., my baby-bear computer is growing up.  During my recent round of upgrades I replaced two sticks of unlighted RAM with its fancy "PRO" RGB lighted cousin and ended up with 16GB of unused Corsair: "Vengeance LPX" 2666MHz RAM that I put back on my shelf.  My original intention was to sell my baby-bear with just 16GB of RAM, as a fancy, high quality, household/business, but not suitable for modern gaming, machine.  (i.e. 4-core "Ryzen5 1400" CPU, a "meh" RAM speed(2666MHz), and no high end graphics card.)  Baby-bear was quite happy with the little 2GB GTX-1030 graphics card and the16GB of RAM that he already had, but that 16GB of unused RAM on the shelf kept nagging at me.surprise  Nobody who doesn't do massive image processing, or insane gaming, really needs 32GB of RAM.indecision  So, I'm thinking why not turn baby-bear into an actual mid-grade gaming machine by adding RAM and replacing the CPU or at least giving it a decent graphics card.

I have three primary computers baby-bear, momma-bear, and pappa-bear.  Pappa-bear has my wonderful 12GB RTX3060 OC graphics card for my DAZ work.  Momma-bear has a 6GB GTX-1660 OC graphics card but I only do photoshop work with it and could get along quite nicely with a much less sophisticated card.  So, my thought is to move the GTX-1660 to baby-bear and either move baby-bear's GTX-1030 graphics card to momma-bear, or just use momma's on-board graphics.enlightened

Toward those ends, I have given baby-bear the shelved 16GB of RAM bringing his total to 32GB.  I plan on swapping graphics cards with momma-bear soon, and I'm trying to convince myself that I "need" to get one of those new Ryzen5 5600G CPUs (with on-chip graphics) or a Ryzen5 5600X(requires external graphics card) but either of those will end up costing me around $300  The CPU update is a vanity thing and probably not really necessary.  However, with the better CPU and graphics card the resulting machine would have some nice gaming potential.  Not the best, but if I could sell baby-bear for about $1200 I'd be ahead of the game and not hurting for a DAZing graphics card for a couple of years.yes

I never needed baby-bear, he was an unwanted accident.  I wouldn't really miss him.

If I go that route, I need to do it soon, before the chip shortage ends and the graphics card prices come down.  Just wondering how to advertise it.indecision

Did you ever hear back from Mysti? Everytime I check her profile it says her last activity is only a minute or two earlier than the time I check. It sort of looks like she has left her computer on and signed in to DAZ.

Sets up Spline-IK. Makes sure joints are aligned properly.  Entire neck flips into reverse and the head is suddenly where the chest joint is.

I just can't figure these things out at all, no idea why something breaks in one setup but works in another :x

I hate that!  My computer has blue-screened three times in the past week.  Not doing anything stressfull on it, just playing Solitaire one time.  Nothing big running in the background.  Just don't understand it.  Need a new computer, but don't have the money, so I have to suffer.
