I remember what I was looking for: space ships and planetary rover type vehicles for Daz Studio 4. Ok, gonna browse the online stores now.
Oh wow! It is time to start looking for something for the PC coupon! It is September first?
Confused: OK, I give up. What's wrong with these 1TB hard drives that they are selling at $17?![frown frown](https://www.daz3d.com/forums/plugins/ckeditor/js/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/confused_smile.png)
https://www.newegg.com/seagate-constellation-es-st1000nm0001-1tb/p/N82E16822148868?Item=9SIA9AXDC35848&Description=PPSSFIHTUAQNEC&cm_re=PPSSFIHTUAQNEC-_-22-148-868-_-Product
Edited to add:
OK, I understand. The drives are SAS signalling protocol which is basically electrically compatible with SATA signalling, but the plug/socket configurations are similar but incompatible. HOWEVER, there are products that can adapt a SATA drive to connect with a SAS cable but I haven't found an adapter for 'tother way 'round. And based on the $20 price of the simple passive adapter that I did find, much of the price advantage of the $17 hard drive goes out the window.
I can get a cheap 1TB hard drive for under $50 so why would I buy a $17 hard drive (of unfamilair make and quality) and a $20+ dollar adapter?
Interesting little diversion and I learned something about SAS drives, but, for me, it's not worth the risk.
(And as of this writing, there were only 5 of those $17 drives available in the catalog.)
Seagate is the one maker I trust for spinning drives, over the years (and over 100 drives) I have had just one drive fail and that was my own fault for not blowing out the dust off the circuit board.
Allthough, got quite a few 7200rpm ones from my supplier cheap when people were returning them as 'broken', but the only problem with them was heat. Built myself a 'tower' that had ample clearance between the drives and put the front full of PSU fans (where the dust came) and ran some of them in RAID0 configuration for video capturing. Used some of those drives for almost 10 years before they became too small.
(*blush, you're right*) Yeah, it's not that I wasn't aware of Seagate. It was the Seagate name that made me look at the deal in the first place, but then it made me question why name brand drives would be selling for $17. I guess I should have said "of uncertain manufacture", (i.e. perhaps seconds, or previously owned, poorly stored, counterfeit, glowingly radioactive, etc.)
If it is too good be true, there might be a reason. Sometimes the cheap stuff is a good deal but most of the time it seems, not the case.
My SSD is by a company that I've never heard of before: The computer only shows the following - in device manager: TEAM T253X2001T
Does anyone know of a place where I can get a decent Nvidia GPU for $17? (I don't care if it glows - Just gimme faster renders).
The casing on my laptop is cracked... Badly.
I think our ex-stray has been bitten by another cat, again. Does anyone know how to get an (ex-stray) cat to stay indoors? Also get him to realise how life is better indoors (where you won't get bitten on the bum, or have to worry about territory, or not having to hunt for food)...
Oh, I was going to release that! Now I have to do it all over again...![crying crying](https://www.daz3d.com/forums/plugins/ckeditor/js/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/cry_smile.png)
I like the song called Demons. It was written by Imagine Dragon. I listened to it when I was in the shower tonight.
After a tiny bit of research, it seems that the TeamGroup "T253X2001T" 2.5" SSD is a bargain brand, but not terrible. Not a technological rip-off, just less attention to perfection. It's currently selling on Amazon for $84 but you can get the much better rated Crucial "MX500", 1TB 2.5" SSD for $99. Or the Samsung "860 EVO" for $170. And those last two are, I believe, both 3-bit per cell, storage technology. I could't even find any information about the TeamGroup technology whether it was the longer lasting 3-bit/cell, or the newer and cheaper, but less resilient 4-bit/cell. Something to keep in mind, next time.

Note: The Samsung 860 EVO is a lot more expensive now than it has been in the past. Probably because they're now rare, and Samsung is moving on to their 870 QVO line ($109) which is 4-bit/cell technology but being a storage technology leader they claim their QVO is almost as resilient as their EVO (3-bit/cell) technology. https://www.newegg.com/samsung-1tb-870-qvo-series/p/N82E16820147781?item=N82E16820147781&source=region&nm_mc=knc-googleadwords-pc&cm_mmc=knc-googleadwords-pc-_-pla-_-solid+state+disk-_-N82E16820147781&gclid=Cj0KCQjw7MGJBhD-ARIsAMZ0eet4YmA9VvZz-FPsvnUTDqOoPhCzHx6lDVu2r1UhAMf5ejM93kFBui8aAou5EALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
I have the Samsung 850 EVO 500GB drive for my C: drive.

To all our friends in New York City / New Jersey area.: I saw the newscast of all the flooding from the remnants of Ida. I hope you are able to stay safe and well. Please check in when you can.
...+1
I just love it how expensive freebies are here. It's kind of funny, to be perfectly honest.![devil devil](https://www.daz3d.com/forums/plugins/ckeditor/js/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/devil_smile.png)

Thanks @LeatherGryphon , sounds like some good advice!
I don't call those true freebies.
Anybody hear from Mysti or McGyver yet? They are on western Long Island outside NYC and probably got flooded. I hope they are OK. And @ Dana: I also hope the flooding didn't get you.
And I've been losing weight too! Down from almost 250# six months ago to 216 this morning (wheee...)
despite continuing to be a professional couch potato.
Sometimes doctors are not just trying to make our lives miserable. Sometimes we make ourselves so miserable that even the doctor's advice is worth trying.
I hope they are okay? No, I haven't heard anything.
I was at 200lb for quite some time and then the pain clinic put me on a med in my pain pump that I told them I can't take because it makes me retain water but they insisted. Once I made it up to 265lb they said I guess you can't take that med, ah no crap I already told you that. They took me off of it and within a month I lost 55lb. They put me on a derivative of that same med and again I told them I can't take it for the same reason and now I'm up to almost 270lb. They again said you've gained weight so took me off of that a few weeks ago now I'm just waiting to see what's going to happen. I have severe back problems due to a car accident and have had 7 surgeries on my back and deal with severe pain all day long. I spend a lot of time curled up in a ball shaking almost uncontrollably due to pain. It's very hard for me to be mobile but I'm trying.
I am very sorry to hear that @frank0314, that is a terrible situation you are experiencing :-(
Indeed, listening to the doctors isn't always a good idea...
Thanks. It's just getting worse with the years as the arthritis from the injuries and degeneration gets worse. It has now been almost 18 yrs of this on Oct 14th. I'm tired. I've hit very lows over the years but luckily I've had the support of my wonderful wife with the patience of a saint and my great kids.
Does anyone know anything about this image? I feel like it could be a scene I rendered last year. I found it when browsing through my photos in my iCloud. Or it could be a picture I downloaded?
...also very concerned about McGyver and Misty as the situation in New York was unprecidented. Misty also lives in a first floor apartment. and has difficulty getting around.
Hope Misty and McGyver are okay. It is strange they haven't posted yet.
...that's what concerns me.
Hopefully this means that he is okay but haven't posted yet?
Thanks. It wasn't so bad here. Some heavy lightning, though. One was only about a mile, directly overhead. What a boom! It rained hard for a while, but not for hours and hours. Sump pump is activating every so often, so the ground is saturated, but the basement is dry!

I am Groot!
Sorry, I've been pretty busy lately and the forum has been really slow to load... I barely look at one or two threads or pages and then get fed up waiting for the page to load...
But anyway, thank you for your concern... I'm fine, the flooding wasn't so bad here because it's very sandy underground, so the water drains fast... but anywhere where water could collect, it did... the lakes on either side of my daughter's school both overflowed... but even that wasn't bad because about 15 years ago they created some flood management drainage in the area, so it actually worked.
The worst that happened on my property was the top snapped off of one of the sassafras trees and lots of little branches fell.
The north side of Long Island had more flooding issues because there is actual elevation and the ground is less sandy... a friend of mine who lives on the north shore a little west of me lives at the bottom of a steep hill and has a very picturesque brook running through his front yard... last night it was a white water river.
That's not completely unusual, but from the video he sent, it was clearly far worse than any previous downpours I've seen... he's got a small bridge over the brook that's part of the driveway, and luckily last year they had the whole area rebuilt and reinforced... I think if they hadn't done that the whole thing would have washed away. His neighbor across the street has his entire basement flooded to the top step because the street was also a raging river.
I hope Misty is okay... I think she lives on the south shore (which did better in last nights weather) but she's mentioned a couple of things that make me think it could possibly be the middle to north shore... Hopefully she's okay... I remember her saying something once about her kitchen getting flooded after a bad rain... I think... I vaguely remember suggesting a shop vac for something.
Bah... I'm writing this in notes now because I got a Clownflare twice and hopefully I'll remember to send this later this evening.
Spoiler: I remembered several hours later.
...according to the map South Huntington (where I believe she lives) is towards the north shore.
Her last post here was 9 days ago when she was mentioning about getting a ride from her cousin to St. Catherine's Hospital. Hopefully that is where she is and she is safe. Would also explain the lack of posting.
