  • Complaint:  Grump... GreatUncleBear may have booted into the existing OS after changing his mobo and CPU but the existing Win10 was of course not activated.  I tried to give it my unused license code for Win10-Pro and it complained.  I tried another unused code that I had and it failed too.  Hmmm..., WTF?  Then I realized that the installed Win10 was Win10-Home version not Pro.frown Frump!

OK, so after a couple of tries to download "Pro" onto the existing "Home" system and it barfing on me, I gave up and used the "diskpart" routine to completely "clean" the drive and let the Win10 Media Installer do all the appropriate things to install a virgin copy of Win10-Pro.  Yes, I did save my personal data and the install files for most of the 3rd party applications.  I'll port them over, later.

So, the new license code was accepted, and GreatUncleBear is now activated and a virgin.  Tomorrow I start my personalizations and then on Monday, my new (correct) PATA to SATA adapter will arrive from Amazon so that I can attach that old PATA DVD drive to my SATA connectors on my new mobo and power supply.

Non-complaint:  I am so tickled that this ancient piece-of-crap HP machine is now nearly as quick as my MommaBear machine (which is also a 3xx series mobo)

Complaint for the day...... I had to get new tires for my truck installed today. I showed up at the shop at opening and ended up not leaving until 3.5 hours later. Aparently they had a bunch of cars from yesterday they didn't finish and they came first. Nice of them to mention that when I checked in. I wanted to get an oil change while I was there but of course, my luck strikes again, out of the filter my truck takes, so I'll have to come back tomorrow. After which, I had to go to my dream store, Home Depot and buy the new duct work for my new dryer. After wondering around there for an hour having a hard time finding everything, I finally bit the bullet and asked (hey, I'm a guy, we don't need to ask for direction and help, we already know it all). After that I had to go to Walmart and pick up my meds but when I get back to the pharmacy there is a line of ten people standing there while the girl behind the counter is moving slower than a snail. Took me a half hour of standing there before they got to me and they couldn't find my Tralicity in the frig which is only the size of one of those very small apartment frig's. You know it will only hold a couple gallons of ice cream in the freezer. Another 20 minutes go by with everyone behind me himming and hawing and complaining that I was taking so long. It finally took the pharmacist doing it to find it. By the time I got home it was almost 1:00 EST. So 6 hours with a terribly bad back, I almost collapsed when I walked in the door I hurt so bad.

...ow, I know that feeling.  For myself, it gets really painful to stand in a queue (or for a bus) for very long.  This is part of my disability situation as most jobs I have a background for involve a lot of standing as well as bending (another very painful task).  I'm good for 20 maybe 30 min tops but then have to sit down for a while.

Disability told me I have arms and legs that work so I can find a job even though the vocational adviser in the hearing said I don't qualify for any job. The judge still turned me down. I also can only be on my feet or a very short amount of time. I've fallen in the Walmart parking lot because I had to park so far way from the doors and all 8 handicapped spots were taken. At about 20 minutes the pain gets so bad it goes into my hips and then makes my legs weak until it just gets to the point I can't support myself any longer and fall. I don't qualify for any jobs because I'm restricted to lifting no more than 5lbs, being on my feet no more than 20 minutes nor sit longer than 20 minutes. I have to have the freedom to sit, stand or lay down as needed plus be allowed to take my pain meds whenever needed. I mean come on, I've had 6 back surgeries now since 2004. Been unable to work outside the house since 2009. I was trained in aircraft repair, construction, welding and police officer. I can't even come close to doing any of it anymore. I spend the whole day being a yo-yo. Up and down constantly to keep loose enough to keep the pain at a 7-8. I go to the pain clinic 4 times a month to get my pain pump adjusted to increase the amount of medication I'm getting pumped onto my spinal cord, but yeah I can work.

Sad and awful, Frank - I am sorry to learn about your distress and share your anger/frustration at the system that denies you the help you clearly need. I wish that DAZ could help with some kind of incentive to spend your time moderating this forum but I suspect that is entirely voluntary. Much as I often disagree with moderation policies and decisions, I do appreciate that moderation is required and is mostly a thankless task.

I've been told that Disability often is refused the first try, and sometimes the second try, but if you keep at it, you will prevail.  That's what I've been told.  Not sure it's always true. I hope the tide will turn for you!

...I went through  multiple rejections over several years and only succeeded after I got an advocate who helped with all the legal mumbo jumbo.

Besides being physically broken down, I also was dealing with increasing issues of short term memory loss and after being evaluated for that along with another MRI and battery of X-rays my case was finally approved.

I got a black artist book in the mail today.  I'm trying to figure out how to color on black paper.

    Gel pens or acrylics

I think soft pastels or simple crayons will work, too.

Yup I think you are right too

Sorry for the late reply but I was in terrible pain do to the whole ordeal yesterday and I took off very early compared to normal yesterday and was even coming on very late today cause I was having a hard time moving around. Yes, sadly this job is voluntary but it's worth while to be able to help people so pay really isn't that important. Some days are worse than others. We have been called every name in the book and even some made up ones, lol, but in the end its worth it to be helpful to at least one person with their problem(s). Sadely there are bad sides to this but isn't there with all jobs. But, thank you very much for your comments.

I tried the first 3 times to do it on my own and with all 3 rejections and appeals denied I was forced by them to get an attorney so I did. During the hearing the vocational adviser that tells the judge the job you qualify for said I qualify for "NO jobs". I then got my decision letter in the mail saying "denied" The attorney appealed bringing that point up and he denied it again. At that point my attorney dropped me and said we can't win your case "probably due to your age" (46 now). Yeah I'm too young to be needing it, but-I do. All 9 of my doctors and specialist's confirmed that on 2 different occasions. My family doctor, my 2 back specialist (neurologist), my physical therapist who happened to be an MD overseeing everything at the place, 2 different pain specialist, my chiropractor, my counselor, my psychiatrist (deep depression since my accident and could no longer work). I think that's all of them. One of the denials was because of "alcohol dependency". I was like WHAT, I told him I had about 3-4 beers a week, usually during football games. Needless to say I was very upset (would use more colorful words in a few spots  here, but ToS). Anyways, I'm gonna be refiling here after the holidays.

I saw a coupon for a pair of free movie tickets for the day after my mum's birthday.  It is a limited time offer and I got two tickets!  I hope the variants won't get into the way.

Well, the TVA is supposed to keep the variants in check, but if He Who Remains kicks the bucket, they might become tools of the variants in the multiverse war... Honestly, just enjoy the movie and hope the TVA keeps things balanced long enough for Loki and Möbius to figure something out.

Well, even though I've had posts removed and even in one case oddly PG13ified*, I do appreciate the work you do (and the other mods do)... I know it's a hard call sometimes and even though some people will never (ever, ever) let someone forget that one time a mod may have PG13ified a bunch of colorful sounding words, what you do is an important service that keeps things civilized... granted civilization is kinda overated with "table manners" and using "napkins" instead of the drapes and that whole thing about "appropriate places to pee", but it's got a bunch of positive things going for it too... probably... I dunno... but that's not the point... thanks for volunteering and helping keep the forums from descending into chaos...

Also, now you can't legitimately say it's thankless anymore because I just said thank you... moderation really is a double edged sword... even when you get thanked, it comes with a heavy price.

Additionally, have you ever been called a "Nurpgribble"?...  it's not in the book yet, but I've been trying to get that one going for a few years and I'm wondering if it's gained any traction... I got all excited the other day because I thought the cashier at Aldi called me that, but it turned out she was just choking on her gum... but maybe if you can, call your lawyer or case worker that and see if it sticks...

That brings me to the next thing I was going to say... I'm sorry to hear about your troubles... actually, more accurately "I'm sorry that you having all these problems"... Every time I say "sorry to hear about" I feel like that sounds like I'm sorry I was paying attention when the person was talking... which if you knew me would be an actual miracle because I never pay attention to anything and if I did hear something, I'd actually be happy that I heard it, but not if it was something pretty terrible like someone's neighbor was mauled to death by a pack of feral dachshunds... which in itself would actually be pretty miraculous too, because dachshunds are pretty bad at mauling, and the worst one might get would probably be really sore ankles if they were nibbling for a couple of hours uninterrupted... but that's not my point...
Actually I'm not entirely sure what that was because I'm picturing a pack of feral dachshunds nibbling someone's ankles while they watch them with bored disinterest, which is kind of funny... it's a very Far Side kinda image... anyway... I hope you feel better soon and that you can find some positive resolution to your predicament.

I'm aware that's probably easier said than achieved, but I wish it for you none the less.

Well, that's all the confusing and incoherent stuff I have to say at the moment... Be well.

*See... totally not letting that go... I'm vigilant and dedicated to my craft.

...good, keep at it.  I got despondent a few times, but a couple of really good friends kept me motivated to not give up.

I was 62 when my case was finally approved so age may have been a part of the decision along with the fact over the preceding years my condition steadily deteriorated.  It is a lot more difficult for younger people to get certified. even with situations as serious as yours. I knew of another fellow in I believe Tennessee who's account I was familiar with, he also was in a bad wreck and afterwards would suddenly have blackouts,  Even then they kept denying him because he was in his 40s. Sadly lost touch with him as he stopped posting so don't know what the outcome finally was.  pat of the issue was he ended up with a somewhat unscrupulous lawyer which made the situation even more difficult by not releasing any records after the relationship was terminated.  The firm I hired came highly recommended by several people I knew as they went above and beyond for their clients.  They are still working on a retroactive portion of my case (back to 1974) but with how understaffed the SSA is right now the backlog is really long for such cases but at least I was able to get my primary coverage which I am overly grateful for.

Like I may have mentioned on reaching 66, my benefits were automatically switched over to SS retirement so no having to go through evaluations anymore.  Not that I'd expect any reversal, particularly after the fall I took a couple years ago which affected my sense of balance a bit as well as gave me a mild case of vertigo.

I can't believe how much time I spent playing the Genesis Shadowrun game considering that the core game loop just isn't fun at all.

...I'm involved with the P&P role play version of Shadowrun (5th ed)  Been playing it ever since the encountering the game back in '91. GM'd several campaigns and been a member of our local missions group since 2015.  sadly Covid put a kibosh on our weekly meetings at a local game shop. We usually had 3 - 4 tables there every Tuesday night   Working on retooling an epic 3rd ed campaign to 5th ed rules which was set in Europe in 2061.

Non-complaint:  Wheee... I finally found a source for Asus compatible TPM2.0 modules (at a reasonable price) for secure booting with Windows11.yes  Just came on the market a couple days ago.

    https://www.newegg.com/p/2MG-006T-00001?Item=9SIB3TDH7A9776 ; Grab 'em while the gitn's good.enlightened

Complaint:  I have four relatively modern motherboards (300 & 400 series).  All Asus.  The puniest (i.e. least capable) board is the Prime-A320M-K in the re-incarnated GreatUncleBear and it has a TPM2.0 header.yes  So does MammaBear(Prime-B360M-A).yes  PapaBear(Prime-Z490-A) doesn't need one because it's built-in to the board.cool  But poor BabyBear(TufGaming-B450M-Plus II), despite the fact that it has a beefier board than GreatUncleBear still has only a TPM1.0 header (pin missing in the corner)frown

I only bought one.  I really don't need them now but I thought I'd get one to play with to see how they work.indecision

Hmmm... the catalog page says it's for "A-series, and Ryzen series" processors.  Hmmm... I know what Ryzen are but what are "A series"?  Does this mean they are not for Intel motherboards (Momma & PapaBear are Intel i5 & i7.  Baby and GreatUncle are Ryzen5)?

Complaint:  Now I'm confused again.  Why  can't this be simple?sad

ROFL, OMG, that is too funny! "Nurpgribble" , that is a great word. You should patition Webster to have it added.

I go to the pain clinic 4 times a month to get my pain pump adjusted to increase the amount of medication I'm getting pumped onto my spinal cord, but yeah I can work.

...I went through  multiple rejections over several years and only succeeded after I got an advocate who helped with all the legal mumbo jumbo.

Besides being physically broken down, I also was dealing with increasing issues of short term memory loss and after being evaluated for that along with another MRI and battery of X-rays my case was finally approved.

Anyways, I'm gonna be refiling here after the holidays.

...good, keep at it.

This lawyer was something else. First he wouldn't allow my wife to come in with me for my hearing which is kinda necessary to me to not freak out. I'm sure you'd understand also being dyslexic but I have a very hard time comprehending things unless explained in a certain way. When I read a post here I have to read it a couple times before it will sink in. I mix up the words when reading so it makes no sense, hense having to reread. People always just assumed I was stupid growing up. No, it's quite the opposite, but I have a medical condition that makes things harder. I've mostly learned how to work through it pretty well but under certain very stressful (their aren't many) circumstances I can't comprehend and that is one of them. My wife has a way of saying things that make it sink in better, because when she found out I had dyslexia she did a lot of research to understand the disorder and on how to communicate with a person having it.

I ended up contacting my congressman a year ago when I was thinking of refiling and they said to give them all the info when I reapply and they will keep tabs on it to make sure they are being fair and intercede if needed. The whole thing is a big long waiting game. You file, wait 6 months for a decision to start out then if you need to appeal you wait 1 year in between each decision. Did that for 7 years until the attorney dropped me and hit the deep state of depression and gave up.

Turns out not just the freebies, as it didn't show a dragon for g8m as purchased.

Bad news!  As of right now I have no way to see the movie I got tickets for.  Also there is no way to reschedule them as I have used a promo code.

...yeah grammar is another issue as i often mix up word order as well (though I don't use the grammar check function in Word as when I set it to "casual" I may as well have it disabled).  Spelling and English in general were my two worst subjects in school (oddly math was one of my best and in college, music). When I get worked up about matters. my writing goes to heck and I need to meticulously proof read what I wrote a couple times before I post anything.  Sometimes mistakes still slip through.

It also doesn't help with these cheap keyboards today where the letters wear off in a year or so. Actually looking for an old IBM Model M keyboard with a PS/2 connector as the printing on the key caps was very durable.

I contacted one of my senators (who was on a Higher Ed committee) assist me with an educational loan agency which was garnishing my disability payments when they were not supposed to be doing so. Sometimes taking the matter to a higher authority can make a difference.

...ugh, just got an email from our transit system that they will be cutting back service on a number of routes to the levels during the pandemic come January, due to a shortage of drivers.  As schools and more workplaces are opening up that's going to mean even more crowded buses with people standing only inches apart breathing on each other while we have a new even more contagious strain going about that has also affecting vaccinated individuals.

Glad I am retired and don't have to commute to work every day.
