is there any switch to disable logging in the log file? Iray put a lot of stuff in the logfile.

Not that I know of - but IIRC either Spooky or Rob indicated that the log self-limits to around 500 KB total.

i have had filesizes more then 50MB. i think its a good idea to disable the logging, maybe with options or limit it only to the actual session and or size.

    Another suggestion is:

when i cancel the render or the render is finished and i´m not satisfied with the result, after click on the save button in the render window the render window closes. the must be an option that the render window not closes after click on the save button to continue rendering.
this option is very helpful to compare the result.

because I like otherwise the softness of shadows,

2 ways to get softer shadows. One is to add another light but don't turn shadows on for it. That will diffuse the shadow some. The other is to turn the shadow strength down in the light settings.

with 3Delight, DAZ put around every five seconds a file r.png in a temporary folder

    on mac it's in

    ~/Library/Application\ Support/DAZ\ 3D/Studio4\ Public\ Build/temp/render/r.png

I guess on windows it should be in some "Temporary Items" or specific Applications folders in the user folder.

    -
with iray, Daz complains (in log) the r.png file does not exist and don't create a temporary file of the rendering.

It would be useful to be able to simply save a snapshot of the rendering without stopping it.

    Like with LuxRender.

Thanks, Khory, for that information about getting softer shadows.
I will try that for myself.

I keep meaning to check this - but I have a habit of viewing the log from time to time, selecting everything, deleting everything, and saving the result. Force of habit, I tend to do it weekly.

Hiya, I'm unable to download the beta builds through DIM and there doesn't seem to be a manual DL link in the product library.
I can see the public beta in DIM, and when I click download, it thinks for a minute and the button then read Download Failed.

I'm able to download and install everything else properly through DIM, including HD morph support, support content, clothing, etc. The only thing that will not download is the complete program. Is there any way I can get a manual link emailed, anyone else have this issue?

    Thanks for any help,
    Steph :)

maybe like a snapshot. but click on save don't destroy the actual render like now. Like lux, a good idea!
What i mean is: pause the actual render after a few iterations, save the image, maybe change the tone mapping, and continue.

Does the DIM log give you any clue why the download is failing? Gear icon upper right corner to launch the Settings window, then click on the Show Log button on the lower left. Scroll down to the bottom of the log and look for an error message.

Have you tried saving from the file menu: Save Last Render? That, for me, has always left the render window alone. Got in the habit of using that years ago.

Since the latest download was a higher version than what's posted on top of this thread, it's always possible it was a mistake and they've pulled it temporarily.

Version 4.8.0.55 showed up in DIM earlier this afternoon. Haven't come across any issues with it yet..

Thanks for the tip, I had a look at the log and this is what it reads:

WARNING: Network Error while downloading to file "": Download timed out

I've just checked my internet download speed and it's about 26 Mbps, I'm able to download everything else just fine.... including version 4.7 of Studio through DIM

I'm not sure of a way to check which exact version it is, I've purchased the 4.8 beta in store, then clicked download and install with DIM.
I've been at this for a few days lol.

Fire up the DIM and try to download/install from within the DIM itself (you do need to configure the options in the DIM and I don't know them off the top of my head, but they should be in the first post...the announcement one)...the Download/Install links are flaky for some folks.

I had an odd error message last night, which is the first time it's popped up in the 4.8 beta.

When render finished, went to save the image and got : "The NVIDIA OpenGL driver detected a problem with the display driver and is unable to continue. The application will now close."

This ONLY came up when I tried to click in the render image to name the file and save it. It happened twice last night.

I checked my drivers and they are up to date. Can anyone shed a bit more light on this for me?

The first beta I didn't have this problem - everything rendered and saved fine. It's just this version: 4.8.0.53

    Hi Daz Guys
I don't know if this is a know issue or not so that is why I am asking here.
I've been playing around with the updated 4.8.0.55 Iray and i was going to see if i could make a short animation using my graphic cards..
I have to say I really love the real time preview. best update to daz in years.
But i noticed that My graph-mate and key-mate plugins are not working do I have to reinstall these plugins for daz4.8 or is this because this is a beta version of daz and it will be corrected later on, or should I expect these plugins will be useless to use with daz 4.8 iray?

I think I remember that the plugins were working in the first version of daz 4.801 but in the update they not working.
Any input on what to expect or maybe a fix would be great.

    Thanks

PS: I forgot to add I get this error message every once in a while not all the time . but it does it when i am previewing in 3dlight settings
It happen this time when i was resaving some neon shaders for a animation I am making

Is this the first time you've installed a D|S beta using DIM? Since the beta is installed to a different location than the current full release version, and some plugins install files to the program folder, the beta can't use those plugins because they don't exist in the beta program folder.

It's easily solved, just use DIM to uninstall then reinstall just the plugins — there's no need to reinstall anything else. This places the plugin files in the proper places in both release and beta program folders.

    I have 4.8 in my C:\Program Files\DAZ 3D\DAZStudio4 Public Build
    and 4.7 in C:\Program Files\DAZ 3D\DAZStudio4

Can I just install the plugings to the C:\Program Files\DAZ 3D\DAZStudio4 Public Build folder where the daz4.8 resides or do both bulds need to be in the same folder for the plugin to work
I used the Dim to install both daz 4.7 and daz4.8 with all the content that came with it
daz 4/8 Daz 3dlight renders much faster than 4.7 so if i have to uninstall 4.7 I will
    thank you for the help

If you install the plug-ins with DIM, or uninstall and reinstall, they should be added to the beta as well as the production build. You may need to re-eneter your serial number for the beta, I can't recall.

Other way round — having the release and beta versions installed in separate program folders is what allows you to have both at the same time. Don't try to merge the folders or do anything manually, just let DIM do the plugin reinstallation and it'll automatically put all the files in both of the right places.

Note that you won't have this problem the next time you try out a beta, because the plugin files will already be in the beta folder.

    Hi,

I was having a quick look at "IES" profile lights.

I am curious as to why the light profile directions are being added to z- direction.

    For example.
In a lot of cases, I would add a single plane for a light source (mesh emitter). The emitter direction is based on polygon normal direction. So the light is emitted from the surface of the plane. (pic 1)

If I then add an IES profile to that plane emitter, the light direction is changed to z-. In the example, that directs the light across the plane. Due to profile at center of polygon and emitted light sent across the plane, half of the light profile is blocked by the plane. (pic 2)

Should the IES profile not be added to polygon normal direction?

IES profiles behave in a predefined way, but the Create New Primitive dialogue now allows you to specify the principal axis so just set it to z negative.

You entered the Pro serial number in the beta? That should be working, try restarting your system in case something is stuck and make sure it was the SDZSPRO-040 (paid for) or SDZFPRO-040 (free) number you are entering.

In a Z-up world, that "predefined way" would make sense. But DS uses a Y-up world.

Why not a predefined way of using Y- (for ies profiles), which would be more consistent with DS world and IES down_lighting profiles?

...just got a dual display set up running. Transferred the tabs to the old display with the viewport/workspace on the new one. Kind of overdid it as I moved the Scene/Environment tab group as well. When I tried to redock it with the viewport they filled the entire screen. I just need them back on the left edge of the application window like they were but cannot figure out how to dock them there. Even the users' guide is no help.

(and people wonder why I won't mess with Blender).

    ETA,

...now somehow the Viewport/Render Library tab group came undocked from the main application window and on top of that the viewport tab separated from the tab group and went back to the other display. I have no idea how to resize it or or dock it back as there is no options menu except for the camera so now I have a blank application window on one screen with the viewport taking up the other.

There has to be some kind of restore or re-dock command.
