you can right click the square with lines in the corner and make undockable or dockable

...ended up just setting everything back to factory defaults and starting all over. again. Wish there was a way to direct the external render window to open the display.with the viewport rather than the one with all the tabs and tool panes.
For docking, all I could find are the options to "make pane" or "pane group undockable". nothing that says "make pane dockable".
I really wish that the 3Delight progressive render function would behave like in 4.7. In 4.8 it is a pain, especially if you want to use it for quick overview test renders.
...I've found it is slower than bucket rendering and it doesn't seem to affect the entire scene as a whole like it used to, but appears to render in sections now.
I am losing my tiny mind. I have filed a support ticket on this, and we've been going around and around about it, with me giving explanations and screenshots for the past ten days, and I still can't download the beta. I would like to know, however, if maybe one of you has a thought.
First, yes, I DID check show hidden and download Daz 4.5 + and public build. I DID try buying it again. And again. And again. I still can't download it. Doesn't show up in DIM no matter what I do. I'm using the version 4.8.09.
See if you can follow this.
First installed 4.8 and DIM fine on my C drive.
Computer got a virus. Had to install a new C drive, and my techie guy renamed my old C drive F. But he told me I could still run the executables on the F by adding a shortcut on the desktop. So I did this. Now, while the computer was in the shop, Daz did a new build. Tried to download it. Nothin'. Wasn't visible on my DIM at all.
Okay, started doing all the stuff it says do, including checking to make sure DIM was using the right drive paths for the F drive. Tried again. Nothin'. Wasn't listing Daz Studio Iray at all, even when I filtered by sku::12000 and Public Build and Daz Studio.
So I uninstalled DIM and reinstalled DIM on C:, thinking that might hellp. Nothin', nothin' nothin'.
Filed support ticket. They thinks I'se stooopid, they does. Tried to explain. They wanted screenshots. They explained how to do screenshots, because I never had. Maybe they are right about the stooopid. Nothing with a side order of nothing in a creamy nothing sauce.
So I have been trying for weeks. I could erase my existing Iray from the F drive, but I'm afraid if I do that, I won't be able to download it anyway, and then I won't have use of Iray at all. And I like playing with it, even if it's an old release.
Is 4.8 still listed as "installed"? And if "Yes", what is the installed path it shows? (Click on the small triangle behind "Installed" and select "Show installed files".
Also, in your DIM download directory, delete two files named
IM00012000-02_DAZStudio48PublicBetaWin64bit (assuming you installed the 64 bit version)
Also, when trying to download, select all that can be selected in the filter, and click "show hidden".
Had to install a new C drive, and my techie guy renamed my old C drive F. But he told me I could still run the executables on the F by adding a shortcut on the desktop.
This has been known to cause Weird Stuff™ to happen. The normal advice is to reinstall all actual programs, although data files (such as D|S content) can be safely used from a backup as long as you change the settings in both D|S and DIM (the two programs do not talk to each other) to reflect the new folder locations. You might be having a conflict between the normally hidden system files on your new C: drive and the old, still hidden, system files in what is now your F: drive.
(Note that DIM uses several storage locations; where the downloaded content installers are put, where the manifest files that keep track of your downloads are put, where the unpacked content files are installed into, where plugins and related programs are installed, etc. Some of this can get a bit unobvious, especially if you don't use the default content and program folder locations.) Filed support ticket. They thinks I'se stooopid, they does. Tried to explain.
You're not alone with this; I've had CS latch on to half of the very last sentence of a detailed report and behave through a series of back-and-forth replies as if that was the only thing I'd ever said. DAZ CS is usually very good, but every now and then things take a turn for the surreal.
Can anyone tell me why my version of DS 4.8 shows as just 'Advanced' as opposed to 'Pro' - I have entered my existing 4.7 Pro serial which was accepted!
You entered the Pro serial number in the beta? That should be working, try restarting your system in case something is stuck and make sure it was the SDZSPRO-040 (paid for) or SDZFPRO-040 (free) number you are entering.
Hi Richard
My Serial is the SDZSPRO-040 prefix and restarting, rebooting makes no difference. having said that, I had the 'Activity' bar on and that's where it says 'Advanced' which may mean something totally different.

Oh silly me..well it is just past 6 am and I'm Blond
Filtering:- "Firefly filter / Nominal Luminance" appears to be fixed in that new build.
Looks like I was incorrect about the fix.
Now the problem is unpredictable, showing up usually after light changes and 61iterations. May not be a big issue on well lit daytime scenes, but on darker scenes, where there is a lot of indirect light blending into shadow, the render will take far too long to clean up, even on a good GPU.
I am in a bit of a rush and haven't read through the thread. I am using 4.8.0.55 Beta and the IPR toolbar is greyed out and no operational. I have set Draw Style to Iray and it starts to render in the Aux VP but I am not able to stop and start it via the IPR Toolbar. What do I need to make the toolbar work?
I found the answer on page 9 but I am sure the IPR toolbar worked in the first Iray beta, in fact I am positive it did. Oh well. So I take it there is no way to start and stop an Iray preview apart from changing the Draw Style.
Saw somebody in the forum posting of a cute extra item that was included in the release so thought, okay ... I'll download the beta again and see what happens.
Well, sorry, don't have time to read a ton of posts right now, but dear people, DIM doesn't work. It says there's an update for 4.8 but all attempts to download "fail". All other requested downloads downloaded just fine so presumably DIM is working; but the whatever for 4.8 is not.
Present beta is 4.8.0.4.
I would like to see the cute little item [have no idea what it's called] put into my account please, ty.
Actually if you would simply put manual downloads for betas, that would be kool too.
Having simply copy/pasted what was installed in my laptop over to the desktop and it all works fine AFAIK, can't see why not it would work to simply download a zip and unzip it to its own folder even on the laptop. Really. thank you

The best way I've found to download the beta at this time is to close install manager. Open your web browser and go to your Daz 3D account. Click on downloadable products, then in the "filter" type "Daz Studio Pro Beta", then click the filter button. You should then see only the 4.8 Pro Beta and some 4.8 Plug-ins listed. Click on the Pro Beta and it should open the download page. Simply click on "Download and Install with Install Manager". This will automatically open Install Manager and download the most recent beta. If you have "install after download" enabled in Install Manager it will install automatically, otherwise once it's downloaded it will show in your "Ready To Install" list.

IIRC you had to "buy" the beta first, for $0, in the DAZ store, before downloading it the first time.
I saved a render as jpg, but wanted it as png. And while 40 minutes to render isn't SUPER long, I really didn't want to waste the time... but no problem! Save last render, this time png! YAAAY! (kermit arms)
Hello, been giving the IRay thing a whirl for a couple of weeks and think I got at least a working knowledge down. But...
I've looked all over the thread but can't find an answer to this. Hope someone can give me a hint. It's running me crazy, I've tried several different light setups but nothing works. I'm talking about the noise and color on the neck of the model. Anyone with more experience know what might cause this?
I load a G2F with Viewport Drawstyle Iray, Viewport rendering is done by the GPU. i change the texture of the G2F - rendering is done by CPU. After change the Viewport drawstyle to another option then Iray and back to Iray, render is done by GPU.
The selected Hardware in Render settings is GPU only.

try to lower the translucency settings. you see it on the leg near the knee too.

Anybody have the same experience?
My GFX hardware is a NVIDIA GT540M with 1GB RAM.
If that card is also driving your monitor, you are loosing between 150 and 300 GB to openGL for the display. 1 GB is pretty marginal for Iray.
So what am I doing wrong here? I just downloaded and installed this latest beta and now I can't render any kind of external environment in Iray anymore using the Environment settings - all I get is a uniform blue background. I've tried 'Dome and Scene', 'Dome Only' and 'Sun-Sky' and nothing works... no sunlight, no HDR background, no sky and no light on the model.
Any ideas please? Do I need to re-install from scratch?

Different texture sets will have different sizes of texture, and different numbers too (some will have normals or SSS maps, others won't). Like you, I have found that some will - just -fit into my GPU's 1GB and some simply won't. If the GPU fails the CPU will be used as a fall-back.

Are you sure you don't have a model in the scene blocking the distant lighting?

Hi Richard. Nope - no other model in the scene aside from the main Genesis 2 figure. I was trying to test out sunlight settings, so didn't load a full scene or anything.
The weird thing is that the figure (which is all solid black) is casting a shadow onto the uniform blueness but theres no actual light showing in the scene.
I tried the Environment Map with Dome and Scene on, but nothing I put in that map shows up anymore. This is all only happening since I updated to the new beta - before that it was all fine ;_;
Edit: Ok, I closed down Studio and restarted it a few times and eventually it stopped doing that and has retruned to normal. All the HDRIs in Environment Map are coming out blurry, but thats the only problem I seem to be left with.

Thank you for the idea Chuckdozer, but sadly that did not work either. It launched DIM, it came up with a rip roaring download speed of "0", and then "failed". Guess I'll have to wait for it to come out of beta so I can download it manually. Hopefully they keep that cute little character in with it.
@tomtom - are you kidding me? As I stated having 4.8.0.4, obviously I bought a beta once upon a time. The edition updates with each version same as the final. Also, DIM would not attempt any downloads if one hadn't "bought" the product - mind you if I'm wrong on that point, please do provide details lol ... ;-)

Anybody? Please? Maybe?
Is 4.8 still listed as "installed"? And if "Yes", what is the installed path it shows? (Click on the small triangle behind "Installed" and select "Show installed files".
Also, in your DIM download directory, delete two files named
IM00012000-02_DAZStudio48PublicBetaWin64bit (assuming you installed the 64 bit version)
Also, when trying to download, select all that can be selected in the filter, and click "show hidden".
With a bit of luck, DIM will recover itself.

My Serial is the SDZSPRO-040 prefix and restarting, rebooting makes no difference. having said that, I had the 'Activity' bar on and that's where it says 'Advanced' which may mean something totally different.
