Indeed, I've still got an installer for DS2, you can actually run that alongside DS4 as well. I was curious to see what happened and it ran ok.

I want to congratulate you guys at daz on the daz pro 4.8 you really have out done yourself.
you finally made daz a real animation tool.
I created a short animation with daz studio 4.8 it and I found it to really work great with a ton of improvements. the real time preview window was the Bomb. what a fantastic tool for helping me hide some my animation flaws using older ani-blocks with shadows.

I was really impressed when i was able to stop in mid rendering of a avi and resume again that allowed me to correct small flaws in lighting .

Thought i rendered this animation in Daz studio 4.8 I did it using the 3delight render engine instead of Iray which was much faster than daz 4.7 when i compared a few of the scenes when building the animation. still one of the scene s in the film took 15 hours to render.
I guess no matter what program rendering mirror reflection with return shadows in raytrace light really slows render times... ..ha ha ha

anyway thank you very much for the real time render preview window and the other improvements I really look forward to working with the final results of the new daz program.

OK. Installed but from what I know iRay is now the default rendering engine. Until I get my vid card updated I really would like to continue using 3Delight, how do I go about making that the default so I don't have to worry about it.... set it and leave it sort of thing!

Like layouts, the last thing you were set to should be persistent.

If you create a scene, set 3Delight as the renderer, save it and have DS launch with that scene, shouldn't that keep what you want where you want it!?

Thanks DAZ Studios. Daz Studios Pro 4.8 is working very good. And renders look way better. Now I need a guide for the new rendering settings.

Thanks. Did a render before jumping in the shower.... It rendered lightening fast. OMG. 3Delight is actually faster than before. Thanks!

Well it seems things are happening faster than I would have expected. You guys at DAZ 3D must be in OVERDRIVE! lol

I've not checked my DIM since this morning, but I am confident it is in there already. Before I download it and install it I am waiting for all the updates to be completed. Can't wait to try the new render engine, Iradium! I plan to try some comparison renders to see which does best for me per my own set of priorities.

Quick question on DAZ Studio 4.8. Do I need to re-download the Genesis 1 and 2 starter essentials? Have there been any changes since 4.7?

    Cheers,

    Alex.

As far as I can gather from the first page of this thread, you should be ok with what you already have.

Thanks. Downloading several hundred megabytes is a pain in the proverbials which I would like to avoid if I can.

    Alex.

Going to need some quick set up tutorials. The info through out the multitudes of threads on iRay is a bit to go through. I'm doing a 'quicky' render of my "CatPerson" scene and all it is is one figure and a background image. I can see already her eyelashes are not using the transparency assigned to them. I can't find where all those controls are hidden. Perhaps you should code into the Surfaces tab an iRay Surfaces tab so when folks aren't using 3Delight they can switch easily over to that with one click and do what they gotta do. I read that the OpitiX Acceleration was useful in speeding things up so checked that to ON. Other than that all my searching in the interface doesn't show me where I can correct the lashes issue. Wasn't it mentioned that there was an auto conversion script somewhere for the surfaces?

That depends on when you last downloaded Genesis 2 Male/Female Starter essentials. There was an update to those during the beta cycle which makes them work better with Iray.

I clicked that little box with the + - in the view port now my renders are overly bright. How do I adjust that please!

I don't have a system that will support Iray, but like 3Delight anyway. Am I to understand that 4.8 itself requires a system upgrade even to just use 3Delight?

System specs for the new version are so scattered in all the 4.8 threads it gets a bit confusing. There's no such thing as "a computer that won't support Iray" — as long as you can run the previous D|S versions, you can render in Iray; it'll just be a lot slower if you don't have a graphics card that can handle your scene, because the rendering will be done by your computer's system hardware instead of the graphics card.

The same goes for 3Delight; there's a new version in 4.8 that apparently works a bit better and renders a bit faster. You don't need a system upgrade to use it, 3Delight itself is the upgrade.

Interesting. I was under the impression that Iray would not run at all without a NVIDA graphics card.

Saw in a few renders with backgrounds that there is a shadow catcher. Love to know where that is....

Are one of these what I need to get the transparency or alpha's working?

    If so, which one?

    Thank you

It will run with any graphics card, rendering with CPU-power. It's only when using one or more GPUs (graphics processor units) to speed up rendering that you need an Nvidia card.

It can be used without one, but, you're likely to need a pretty hefty CPU.

It's possible that you'll need to install the Iray support content, which isn't in the Product Library for the full release yet.
