Just in case anybody was wondering where that muscle car in Stonemason's promo ad for 4.8 came from, it's by an artist called Bazze. You can download it from his site here: http://www.colacola.se/expo_musclecar.htm . There's a lot more on his whole site too, enjoy!
CHEERS!
Thanks for that! That is a gorgeous classic looking car!
No worries, it was one of the first things I wanted when I first got DS, back then it was a store product at Renderosity, then it disappeared till I found it on that page.
My question is... Why does the sale page say "Celebrate with us the release of the new DAZ Studio 4.8 with 48% savings!" but the discount is only 30% on the Iray related new stuff?
Just checked my DIM so this is supposed to be the full public release and not another beta? There is no update showing for me if so... just the beta's which I don't install.
I don't have a system that will support Iray, but like 3Delight anyway. Am I to understand that 4.8 itself requires a system upgrade even to just use 3Delight? Free or not, I'd prefer not to be railroaded into using a "physically correct" render engine since, frankly, I question all the ooh-ing and -aah-ing over them.

No you don't need a system upgrade just to use 3Delight in 4.8.

If you are running 64 bit DAZ studio, then your computer supports Iray.

System specs for the new version are so scattered in all the 4.8 threads it gets a bit confusing. There's no such thing as "a computer that won't support Iray" — as long as you can run the previous D|S versions, you can render in Iray; it'll just be a lot slower if you don't have a graphics card that can handle your scene, because the rendering will be done by your computer's system hardware instead of the graphics card.
The same goes for 3Delight; there's a new version in 4.8 that apparently works a bit better and renders a bit faster. You don't need a system upgrade to use it, 3Delight itself is the upgrade.
I now see Daz 4.8 in the install manager . how many other files should be included?
for example should it have iray content and updated essentials ?
is there a list of what we should be expecting?

The Content is undergoing some final tweaks. (Mostly concerning packaging, and Metadata.) Please continue to use the Public Beta Iray content while we get this done.
My first impression is that Iray-renders are faster in the production DS4.8 than in the 4.8 beta, the viewports have also been improved, showing an image in texture shaded mode that is far closer to what it looks like in a finished Iray render than they did in the beta.
Mmm, good job on getting DS4.8 itself up, but, it still needs to be updated to show properly in the product library. Mind you, I'm sure you guys are all over that. I won't install it till the rest of the content files are up.
I assume this will update my main install of Daz 4.7 and then I'll be able to delete my 4.8 beta install - Is that right?
YOu can, but you don't have to.
Is there a particular reason why one would want to keep the Beta after installing 4.8?Only so the next Public Beta goes to the same place and keeps the same settings. :) Otherwise, not really. :)

Thanks Spooky (and gwendolyne). That makes sense. :)
Question -what is the current 4.8 version #? My friend used DIM to download hers & it ended in .53 but when she looked at the manual download for it -it ended in .55-which is correct version?

In this new version there will be the Lipsync system in the 64bit?

This is being looked at apparently. At some point, though don't ask when, the full release of 4.8 'should' be available to everyone DIM or not.
The wait continues....
CHEERS!
Ah so it's ready but apparently DAZ is once again ahead of themselves! lol
Possibly! LOL!

May be this is the next level of "soon" ;)
Within an hour count as soon?
Files are syncing.
Please wait until they are fully synced before downloading. (Likely within the hour.)

If you keep it, you can easy update to 4.9beta (after its available) with out mapping all content and installing plugins again
EDIT: Spooky was faster :(
Still getting a crash any time I render with caustic.

I'm loving 4.8 and Iray by the way - great job!
