Will there be any way we can download DS 4.8 exe from our Product Library 'Without' having to use the Download manager. My system configuration is not suited to using Download Manager and it simply cause a mess!!
At present the only downloadable 4.8 Product in my library do not include the actual programme.

Same here.
And workflow doesnt work for me, because i have Studio installed on seperate drive, just like my content bdw.
Gives me a lot of problems.
I dunno if i ever be able to install moviemaker e.g.
doesnt work either.
Bur DS4.8 is for me most important to work.
Hope i'll be able to DL and install it manually, without being redirected to my library here, wher the old version still stands.
Has this been seen to yet? It seems counter-intuitive to have a lot of 4.8 hooplah and confetti flying around on the landing page without a direct link to the DAZ Studio 4.8 UPDATE.
My question is... Why does the sale page say "Celebrate with us the release of the new DAZ Studio 4.8 with 48% savings!" but the discount is only 30% on the Iray related new stuff?
i hope this hasn't been asked already... couldn't find it.
i have a very low-key system, which barely allows DAZ 4.6 to function - with many limitations - but it works.
and before the big layout change of the site, there was a tech specs page. i can't find it any more, not for 4.6, 4.7, or most importantly, 4.8. and i'm quite creeped out 4.8 or even 4.7 already might not even run properly on my lame little netbook. so, the promise of very fast render times that seems to go with iradium might be out of my league.
where did they put the specs page?

I think the 48% is the PC+ discount. At least, all of the Daz O's on my wish list are now 48% off, rather than their usual 30% off.
It's worded as 48% off something for non-PC members too, though, so hopefully once Daz gets in the office in about 2 hours, they can get it fixed.

Thanks. I wasn't sure if anyone else was seeing the same results. And the sale is worded confusingly enough that its hard to determine what the intention actually is.
It also doesn't help that I have items coming up as 30%, 48%, and 64% off.

No, DIM only tries to download and install 4.7 pro... no update to the full version of 4.8
Might be weird, but when I get a mail with a BIG announcement that 4.8 is avalable as full release for download, I expect it to work and not try to install previous versions. The least you could have done is make it available through our product libraries.

Well, to really be fast you need a hefty nVidia video card with at least 4 gigs of dedicated ram on it. What I"ve noticed, though, running the beta, is that (I only have 1 gig so most of the stuff I try in iRay uses the CPU only) is that iRay sometimes is faster than 3delight but most times it's not. 3delight, however, seems to run much faster for me than it did in previous versions.
Apart from a 6 core processor I don't hit any of those minimums. I built my PC around 3Delight and Luxrender at a time when 4.8 was still a long way off. I just can't afford to upgrade and when Lux suits my requirements as it stands I don't feel an urgent need to.

i don't even have a graphic card, just a chipset... so i'd have to continue rendering with 3delight anyway. so taking the risk that 4.8 doesn't run at all versus a chance of faster 3delight results... guess i'll take old but secure ~ thx anyway.
Just in case anybody was wondering where that muscle car in Stonemason's promo ad for 4.8 came from, it's by an artist called Bazze. You can download it from his site here: http://www.colacola.se/expo_musclecar.htm . There's a lot more on his whole site too, enjoy!
And workflow doesnt work for me, because i have Studio installed on separate drive, just like my content bdw.
Using an alternate drive is not an issue. You do have to tell the DIM where to install things (not use default) and studio where to look for things (since it is not default), but it works fine.
Iray works on pretty much any computer no matter the graphics card when it runs off the CPU. It is slower however. On my old computer it took just slightly longer to run an Iray render than it did to run a 3DL render with a good uber light set up.

While that is true, I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable leaving my CPU running at 100% load for a considerable length of time. Even with 7 cooling fans on full, the core temperature tops out at 68 degrees during even a 3Delight render. During normal operations it rarely gets over 21. Excessively high temperatures for long periods can't be good for it. I'd prefer something where my GPU will take most of the load and Iray isn't it.

I can understand what your saying. With my old computer I simply had no choice and had not for a long time. At least no choice if I was going to have promo images for products. It seems that liquid cooling is the way to go with something like Iray. If you think it gets hot with the CPU having a run you should see how hot it gets with the graphics card charging along. I will not need a space heater in the office next winter at least. This summer is going to be killer though.
Before I got my current case, I had a single fan in my old case, even under normal operations you could barely put your hand on the case where the GPU was. The design of my new case is much better with everything in the optimal place. I will just have to see how I go..

Thanks for that! That is a gorgeous classic looking car!
On Another Note:
When I followed the link in the newsletter I received concerning Iradium, I found the info to be sketchy in the promo. I know that Iradium is for DAZ Studio 4.8, and will not work with earlier version of DAZ Studio, and it seems that the current 4.8 is still a Beta version.
So I came directly to this thread to try finding better info, and if that info exists, it is buried somewhere in the 30 or more pages of this thread. I do not have time to go through every page to find it, as I have other things I need to get done. If there is detailed info in this thread, it should be included in the initial post on the first page. So here are my questions, though they may have been asked elsewhere in this thread:
1. How soon can we expect to see a general release of DAZ Studio 4.8 Pro?
2. Is Iradium a separate download?
3. If it is a separate download, will it remain free to get when the general release of DAZ Studio 4.8 Pro becomes available?
4. Assuming it is a separate download, should I go ahead and put it in my cart and checkout now?
5. Do i need to get DAZ Studio 4.8 Pro Beta if I get Iradium today?
Comments
The 4.8 release version isn't downloading on my DIM.
:(
And the Product Library page is still only showing 4.7 as well. Have to wait until tomorrow to download.

you can download it manually here https://www.daz3d.com/get_studio

It starts to download DIM but I already have the latest version and v4.8 is still not on DIM.

Does not work for me.. opens the 4.7 in my library (just like DIM).
Is there anybody who managed to download 4.8 (manually or with DIM)?
Nope, having same issue...
And the manual download only offers 32 Bit version it seems.

Okay...I'm glad that I'm not the only one having trouble finding & downloading 4.8 Iradium.
I agree, if DAZ is going to have a big event....at least make 4.8 available for download (other than the beta build).
I'll keep checking back to see if they have worked out the bugs.

I've got the same fricking problem. 4.7 downloaded. I've been banging my head against this particular wall for weeks. I R PISSED.
This is being looked at.

It doesn't matter to me, I'm using 4.7 until this is fixed. :)
IRay or not, I'm still a good 3D artist. :)
