Where oh where is everybody's "sense of adventure"????
I remember the year many of us purchased, sight unseen [because somebody forgot to make and/or load the promo images] a promoted sale item [very good price].
Turned out to be one of those costume outfits one might see in a Shakespearan play. Some of us enjoyed a good laugh, some not so much and returned it.
Not cynical at all. Pretty much a certainty.
It went off adventuring and took an arrow to the knee.
Belgium banned loot boxes in games and I deem them a sensible bunch because of their enforcement of mayonnaise standards.
As for this mystery box thing. Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, NO!
I went for it. Can't see anything in my account yet, but I'm on vacation until next Thursday anyway.
I am guessing the Mousso character is Athenia (sp?) who you could get for free by buying other things.
I plan on creating a mystery bag picture with all the items and only the items. Should be fun.
MSO figure in this mix is not Antheia. It's a different one (that one leaked too). Antheia was only available in the Demigod Series with Noa which was not the best idea, IMO.
I have Antheia and I still think that this figure should be eventually made available in the store. Maybe with a few months of delay, but it should be.
Right now it feels awkward to even post anything made with a character unavailable for purchase. Can't add a store link to the gallery page. >_>
I think the problem is Daz-Management and Daz-Marketing are under some delution that we are all Gamers and these gimicks should work. I've never played a computer game in my life, my stretch of games is Tetris or Solitair! There is an advert on UK TV just now - buy this game and you will get a free knight, and I keep thinking whole Knight gamble here. I am not going to pay $30 on a Mystery Grab Bag that I am 99% certain I wont want any of - I did see the page before they edited it and the only thing I would have given a second glance at would be AM Animal, and there was nothing for G8M (I don't buy for G8F). Been burnt too often in the past with Daz's free gift at the end - I remember a Medieval/Fantasy outfit, maybe for G2M, that I never found a use for or could kitbash with.
Daz needs to get to know their customers, stop these stupid games and gambles and just give us quality products at an affordable price (given the current climate) and -
Keep It Simple Stupid.
These promotion are broken nearly all the time, it doesn't make shopping here fun or even worth coming to the website most days, so they are not helping the company with them.
A loot box is a randomly picked item or items - this is not like that, we know that the items are 9more-or-less) set and have broad hints about some of them. If you like the idea, fine, if not, fine (I haven't purchased but I know others who have) but please don't over-interpret to make it seem a bigger decision thaan it is.
I have no idea whether the items from the bundle will late be available on their own, we will just have to wait and see.
My sense of adventure was lost after I bought into the season pass. I will never again buy sight unseen, learned a very, very expensive lesson.
If Daz marketing is bent on trying to find new gimmicks to sell products, the grab bag seems a rather inoffensive option to me, especially in contrast to their experiments with artificial scarcity (digital exclusives).
While I understand the sentiment, releasing the character - even months down the line - would render their "gone forever" advertising statements false. The best Daz can do is learn from the deserved flack they receive from irritated Mousso fans and avoid repeating that kind of promotion in the future.
Aaand that's why one should never say "never" or "forever". It's just a no-win scenario in every situation.
I sometimes like to gamble so this mystery box offer was super attractive to me since we were given a bit of info and AM has great products out there. The price point, although expensive, was not that bad since we know how expensive the AM products are. At 2.99 us per new item, it really can't be that bad of a gamble :)
From a purchaser's perspective, it doesn't much matter if everyone's getting the same pre-picked items or if they're each getting randomised selections. They're still being asked to gamble money on paying for something where they're not aware of what it is, and with no guarantee that it will contain something useful to them. (Well, beyond the store returns, which really does make this whole thing thoroughly weird as an approach).
Yes, the selection may have been somewhat curated, but if it contains a lingerie set, a sci-fi environment, a stylised character, etc, that's arguably worse than random to someone who does "realistic" mediaeval fantasy with a mostly male cast.
I'm sure this is going to be taken the wrong way, but...
I don't like mystery boxes because they are curated by humans.
This sold X number of units, so lets put A, B, and C in it. Where the contents can be determined by the economics of the deal, not being preplanned.
Welp I just got the Grab-bag.. The items will be available on 9/5, so I still have no Idea what they are. I hope it's going to be great. Have to wait and see now.
You don't think Daz doesn't know their customers and what they want. Don't forget that 90% or so of the customer base isn't in or on this forum. How do anyone in this forum know what that 90% wants? The only people who do know is Daz. They have the sales numbers by promotion, not us so, any discussion of what the customers want is a moot point and purely speculative and does noting besides cause confusion and unjust anger so lets refrain from those types of statements please.
Looking at the Product Page... When is "Midnight on Sept. 5th" ?
Is it the US 12AM that did cause a lot of confusion in the past, or 24:00 as the rest of the world would think?
It appears to be the last moment of the day:
https://www.lawinsider.com/dictionary/midnight#:~:text=midnight means the last moment,date becomes January 1, 2017.
So, one can still buy the bag the day it is released to ones that bought it.
As usual it will be Sept 4th going into midnight/2400 Daz time to start the Sept 5th
well, it seems to me its all moot. if you dont like it, dont buy it. Pretty simple. I almopt did and then figured, why risk it and waste time with a return. I will quarantee that a lot of people love this mystery grab sort of thing. There are even videos about it on tiktok. there is a game show on TV thats been running for 50 years or something.
Ah, but you assume that there is any logic at all in what DAZ does and it's not just throwing linguine at the wall to see what sticks. Unfortunately, what history has proven is that DAZ's marketing department will try any new gimmick idea that comes out.
I took a chance on it. Kinda wish I'd seen it early enough for the list so I'd have a vague idea of what I bought, but otherwise, it seemed an ok deal.
Oh that one I understand. I did not gamble that much not being a gambler. I wasn't going to here either BUT I did catch a glimpse at the list on the page and figured okay, I'll buy it. Over here it's about the price of one delivered take-out meal. So I skipped one of those and bought the bundle.
The thing that I keep noticing is that, despite my starting a separate thread on the subject immediately, the verbiage of the product descption STILL hasn't been changed to remove the "Cannot be used to discount items already owned" notice on the product page. That's not the one in yesterday's daily ad, but on the product page itself, as that notice was repeated twice in two very separate places by presumably different people. That makes me wonder if, since DAZ now markets broken out component of larger product sets as separate products, and that Iray conversions of older products have already been sold that way, could the use of the verbiage mean that what we might be looking at includes revisions or break-outs of older products? After all, technically, those could be described as "never before seen" products in the DAZ palance and yet still be things that a customer could have purchased the older version of within the last month. I mean, it's not as if DAZ marketing doesn't have a rather long track record of posting advertising and promotional terms that end up having to be retroactively rolled back or reframed due to some mistatement, misinterpretation or other error.
there is that old saying, "let the buyer beware". If the stuff is useful, it is a pretty darn good deal. If not, its not a good deal. YMMV
You may be correct but I wonder if the the bit about not discounting items already owned is just a bit of standard text that gets added to offers. When I put it in my basket it also offered me a 3D prinitng licence for $1.99 for the bundle, I would expect to have to buy one for each item. And in the past I've been offered interactive licences for tutorials which makes no sense at all. I suspect that there is either a lot of cutting and pasting going on or the Daz store software automatically adds some stuff to every item.
