Mystery Grab Bag?

  • Why did they propose 5/9 then in the first place?

  • I doubt anybody knows ... could be somebody looked at the clock which had 5 to 9 when they were typing. As good a guess as any other lol ...

  • I'm hoping to be pleasantly surprised by ten shiny new items in my library when I wake up later...

But realistically I'm prepared for "It's going to be tomorrow now, with apologies for the delay."

I did notice the lack of new releases on the sale page today - I guess that they're waiting to post them until the items are distributed to buyers of the grab bag? If so, that might bode well for getting them added to accounts today, since Daz probably wouldn't want to delay all those releases.

Of course, that assumes they weren't planning on doing something asinine like staggering the releases out over the next few weeks.

Anyway... Fingers crossed for that nice surprise later.

It should be an automated process. The product page says the sale ends at midnight not that the products ill be added at midnight. They have all day to add them to the accounts but I put in a query to see if I can get any info as to when. Not sure if they will answer since it's a US holiday or even tell us wanting it to be a surprise and releases a thread on it. We don't have any other info than you guys do on this. We've been left in the dark about it.

Thank you. I'll keep a look on my library but guess it might take until tomorrow.

Man, when DAZ do a mystery bag, they really make it a mystery.

  • My guess also is this is an automated process. If it doesn't trigger for whatever reason then someone has to reset it or add the items manually. Hence all the hiccups and delays.

    It's malfunction, not malice.

  • Given that I can't even use my Daz Studio computer till tomorrow, as long as they show up at some point before then, I'm good.

And here I thought I was going crazy b/c I could have swore when I first got to the page is had items listed, but when I went back later in the day....the page had mysteriously changed to ?????

I just bought it ... I also got a brief look at the mistake page that's since been edited. Considering anything by AM tends to be worth that price to begin with, I don't expect to be disappointed.

AND it is a 'new' item so one can use the coupon to get a Starter bundle for about $12 AND for those into buying printing rights, snag that for the bundle @ $1.99 fast too!

  • DAZ used to have this policy, but the last few times I tried to get a refund, I was told no.  Because I had a refund once over 10 years ago.  They wouldn't do a price adjustment either on an item that I bought full price that went on sale the next day.  They used to do that as well.  I recently sent in a ticket for help and it's been  over 20 days with no answer.

Anyway, regardless of the above complaint, I purchased the pack just cause I love blind bags....and mystery boxes.....and I think it will at least have 1 or 2 things that are useful.  But of course, I never know when I'll use something b/c I do character art for authors and sometimes I find something I picked up for cheap a year ago is just what I need to make a picture.

I'm just wondering what time today said items will appear given it's a holiday here in the US.

I'm tempted to do this with, "You can return it for a refund or store credit" in mind, but my luck would be nine items I HATE (and don't want cluttering my library) and one item I can't live without, but can't get anywhere else, so...

<insert sound of dice rolling on a linoleum floor in a back room>

I was wondering about that. As I understand it Daz have a 30 day unconditional return policy and I can't see anything saying it doesn't apply to this. But it doesn't make sense. Usually the reason for making the contents of a sale a mystery is so the buyer has to take a chance and maybe get stuck with something they don't want. If everyone who doesn't like it can return it they might as well just tell us what is in it and save all the sale/return hassle.

the Grab Bag is $88 now, so if you bought it, you got a steal.

  • Hmmm

    Happy Labor day.

Workers and autobots of the world must have united and took the day off and dropped my grab bag before hitting the release.

    Luckily, I'm a patient sentinent.

I’m assuming that once the items are released they’ll have to make it an official bundle or sell everything separately because the cats will be out of the grab bag!

I suppose they have broken the process by removing the contained items from the product page. At the beginning, the bundle contained links to each of its components, but the pages were all ouupsing. As you could have guessed the contents by the link name in the bundle, they decided to remove that reference. And I suppose that is what broke the auto-adding to the library. If I understand the way the shop system is working correctly, an asset is made avalable by setting some flag on its product page. If you have a bundle in your library, the contents of that bundle are not adde to your library as individual items, but are avalable as part of that bundle. I suppose the (good!) idea was, to enable the bundle's individual items any time on Sep 5th, thus making them available for D/L. removing the list of items broke that logic.

I suspect many people will have paid $29 to end up with one or two items they like. Not exactly a bargain. But there will be some happy campers.

I did end up buying it because of the three artists mentioned and someone sent me a sneak peek at another item on art station (which I hope is the actual item.) But I knew I’d be happy with ANY Mousso item and mostly the other two PAs mentioned and I buy a lot of $1.99 items I don’t need but think I may use “some day” so hopefully I’ll be happy with these $3.00 items. I do hate the concept though and definitely would have passed without the names of the three artists.

If thats the case then they aren't never before seen items if someone was showing even 1 of them at art station.

My troubler with the grab bag is that I am SO far behimd on installing products, that unless there is a list somewhere, I may never know what I got in it.

Given that the description says "offer ends Sept 5th Midnight MST"  and since the Mystery bag is still being offered in the store (though at double the price,) my guess is that the assumption is that they'll be putting the items in the accounts at midnight and that counts as releasing them on the 5th.

(Of course, historical evidence would indicate that the likelihood of DAZ being able to manage this in any kind of timely manner are small but the DAZ marketing team isn't exactly known for it's awareness of the constant problems their shennaigans engender in the store.)

I bought in because I wanted to see what kind of trainwreck would ensue, and figured that returning it if it was terrible would actually send a stronger message than simply skipping it.

I beleive, not having seen the page in that state, that they were text links under What's Included. Those are human-generated, they are not placed by the database, and so removing them would have no impact on adding the products.

Didn't the newsletter say "September 5th"?... But, if I recall correctly, there was no mention of the year...

I dunno... just saying... the devil is in the details.

And possibly in my basement occasionally... But that's a separate issue.

I have seen the original page, and, given how bundels work in the store, I assume that removing the individfual items from the store page "broke" the bundle.  Yes, that is an assumpion, maybe even speculation. But I am working in IT since 1997. I know that thinks can happen, unwanted. I am pretty sure that DAZ absolutely did want to supply the items by today. But also wanted to make the contents of the bundle as "mysterious" as could be. So, a clash of conflicting intentions. Leading to the current situation.  Not nice, for the customers, but understandable.

Except that they are managing these sales for years now and the problems are on a daily bases. I don't know how are the IT companies where you live, but here if you fail so often to do your job at least at a decent level, it wouldn't be long before you will have to look for another place to work.
