Chohole,

Is your animated Avatar directly uploaded, or is it a link to an off-site file (or is it a holdover from the old forum that just happens to work?)

I can answer that, as one that likes to right-click-save Avatars that I find cool. It's from the old forum. Just makes the other missing Avatars I thought I saved (and can't find) just that much more odd.

I think it came over from the old forum.

Hmmm.... So that might indicate that we can no longer create animated avatars either.

I guess we need someone to try, and see if it works.

I'd do it but I don't really want to mess with my avatar.

While we're talking improvements, the << and >> arrows for previous/next page could be a bit bigger too. In fact, ideally they should be replaced with 'previous/next' buttons, since a double arrow generally indicates the first/last pages.

Funny that these are the only things in the entire forum UI that aren't HUGE!

I updated my Wolffie Blink avatar and it came in as static. So now I'm just using my real face! Not sure if they fixed that yet....

All of the notifications I receive have the link separated across two lines, making it not a real link anymore. I saw that some others were experiencing the same thing, but I didn't see any workaround or acknowledgment of the problem. Is there any news regarding this, or am I the only one remaining with the problem.

Solved: It was my spam filtering service mangling the output.

I use Firefox and haven't had the problem others have had with the logout problem. At least it doesn't seem that way. However what does happen is if I haven't been around for a while it takes longer for the initial page to come in (whether here or store, but mainly store). I suspect the server is re-logging me and pulling in my content sku's or whatever it does--it takes a while.) but I'm not logged out in the sense I have to myself log in again..

I don't use noscript. But something I've noticed is that if I log in on the Kindle, I'm automatically logged out from the PC--a safety thing I suspect? So for a couple of months now when I come in using the Kindle I just browse to see what's up--I don't log in anymore.

Oh, re the gear thingy up in the corner. Get used to it. It's a standard icon for 'settings' in mobile. Speaking of which, the forums look great on my Kindle.

(and it defaults to the white version which I prefer but I can't find a way to have the forums in white, which I want, when signed in unless I do it for the store as well, which I don't.)

Top right, the little blue man icon. Click that and "Switch Theme" is right there.

Oh, update... I'm at work and my banner is displaying just fine on the laptop so the 100% Width and 100% Height settings work fine...

My old avatar was an animated gif and it worked fine before. After the update it went away I tried to upload it again and it was just a still frame, wouldn't move at all.

    miine work fine

The file is fine on my HDD, upload it to the post, and instant-no-animation??? Is the servers doing something to the images?

(EDIT) that slam head emoticon worked fine uploaded from my computer a few months back in the old forum. Same exact file.

    http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/704958/#Comment_704958

    Uploaded just now.

    From This Forum

And from the other post, uploaded in the old forum months ago.

    OldForumUpload

Same exact file from my HDD.

Your second one is animated- did you link to the old forum? So what ya'll are saying is if it is linked from the old forum, or from a website, it works, but we can't attach a file with animation?

And luckily, have had zero problems with logging in, a repetitive log in loop, or being logged out. That must be horribly frustrating- I know it was in the old forums. Are you all in different parts of the world or the same geographical area? I'm Florida.

Thanks. But then the store is white too. I guess I could switch back and forth depending where I am. indecision Couldn't hurt.

Ah, you want seperate options. Not sure they can make that work. So sorry! frown

I asked for separate light/dark themes in the store and new forums many, many pages ago. No response.

The issue of animated gifs no longer working had me poking around a little, and what I see seems to be this:

For those of us who still have their avatar from the old forum, the image is hosted on the DAZ server, and if it was an animated gif, it still is.
    Example, DAZ_ann0314:
    http://www.daz3d.com/forums/uploads/userpics/888/n75A0D881BB57.gif

For those that have lost, or never had an avatar, one was chosen for them, and is hosted on gravatar.com.
    Example, DAZ_Jon:
    http://www.gravatar.com/avatar.php?gravatar_id=0c6665860c97ba4653293c8749ccec45&size=100&default=http://vanillicon.com/0c6665860c97ba4653293c8749ccec45.png

It also looks as if anyone who has changed their avatar since the new forum went on line now has their avatar hosted on gravatar.com also.
    Example, RAMWolff:
    http://www.gravatar.com/avatar.php?gravatar_id=dff69311e7ebb5ca2185ddea4a9a2192&size=100&default=http://vanillicon.com/dff69311e7ebb5ca2185ddea4a9a2192.png

None of the gravatar.com avatars are (as far as I can tell) animated. I can only assume that the gravatar site does not allow animated gifs.

The DAZ forum, being a forum for graphic artists, should allow for artistic expression, and I hereby petition DAZ to restore the functionality of animated gifs in both avatars and attachments.

I encourage others who share this opinion to voice it here.

Agreed — I don't use an animated avatar, but some of the ones I remember from the old forums were fun.

Especially when they moved unexpectedly... wink

  • RAMWolffRAMWolff Posts: 10,249

Agreed. I have a Gravatar account. Not very impressed with how things are run there so I just try to ignore that I have the account. I think I needed it for some other place I am a member of and so begrudgingly opened one.... no

Also the folks doing the coding for the forums need to know that when I'm brought to the newest post it's not to the post, it's sometimes to the bottom of the post or to the Leave a Comment text input box rather than the newest comment in the thread.... so something screwy there still! frown

Oh yes, I can't live without Hellboy's avatar suddenly heaving a breath. The first time that did it, I did a double take!

I am running the current FireFox version and i am not running noscript. And it just happened again the log out loop. This time trying to log in from a bookmarked page. I am in Arkansas not sure if it is a geographcal thing or if it is just that the servers down my way are having issues. It is getting highly annoying though. sad

    Argh.

Just came back to reading the forums (browser windows still open) after a short time away from the computer. Clicked on an e-mail notification...

... waited while the page text loaded white and messed-up...

... then the stylesheet loaded, the proper dark style appeared, and the page wobbled, bounced and shuffled into (the wrong) place...

... suddenly! Just as I was scrolling down to see the top of the post that the forum never wants me to see, the whole thing bounced a couple more times and a big panel with a whirly thing faded jerkily in and out, followed by the message "Hi! Signing you in again...".

    Argh.

Is anyone from DAZ listening to these reports? I haven't seen much, if any, improvement in forum behaviour since the switchover, and lots of Weird Stuff™ in the way of disimprovement. There's still lots of missing features. The whole thing's amazingly sluggish; much, much slower than the old forums — I used to see whole pages full of pictures appear in just a second or two.

    Argh.

Sometimes, just because you can do something, it doesn't always mean that you should. I guess we'll just have to hang in there and see what transpires. For the most part, I think these forums are ok, it's just the log in glitches and email links that get a bit wearing for me. I wonder what this is like in Windows 10, anyone got it yet!?

Apart from that - nearly all of my notification emails have a broken link. Sometimes after two letters, sometimes in the middle ... copy/paste - hello welcome ...

No logging problems for me (up to now, I am careful and knock on wood): Firefox, NoScript (daz3d.com and ajax.googleapis.com ok, rest blocked), AdblockPlus

Yeah, I copy and paste into my address bar and then take out the =, it works then. It's so odd that the = keeps popping up and breaking it, it's always random as to where in the link it'll appear.

AdblockPlus stopped working for me, that was how I was able to see the banner for the 85% off Olympia 6, now I have other ad blockers installed, nothing like that shows up.

    CHEERS!

Funny - there is no = in my broken links ...

This is how it looks in my inbox ...

Edit: thanks for the hint about AdblockPlus - I am giving permission to Daz3d - maybe I get one of the targeted offers?

Possibly, I switch mine off and nothing comes up. I have an Outlook account and use Windows Live Mail to view emails, if I were to view that link, there would be an = after http://www.d .

    CHEERS!
