The plot thickens!
CHEERS!
Is anyone else seeing that browsing the forums seem to have settled down into one consistent behaviour over the last day or so?
Not that it's the right behaviour, of course — load text, jump about a bit, load stylesheet, change colours, jump about a bit, reformat to the right style, jump about a bit, pause...
... jump about a bit more, then display the proper "last unread" post. With the top few lines tucked away under the "breadcrumb" header.
Argleblargle...
Did you go to your Notification Preferences and tick the Email box?
Settling on the correct post but then obscuring the top line with the breadcrumb header has been the consistent behavior for me from the beginning.
I'm wondering if that's a 'speed' problem...most of the time I don't see that behavior, because my family is using most of our bandwidth. I only see it when my machine has the higher internet speed. So, I guess what I'm saying is that the scripts/parts of the page are being loaded too fast, because not everything is loading from the same server...some stuff is coming from Google, some from Cloudfront, etc. When I have slower connection speed everything has a chance to be loaded before the page is actually displayed, but with the faster speed, what gets here first is displayed first...and that may not be the correct layout.
I've been here twice today, and didn't get the login loop either time. I don't want to tempt fate, but maybe they're fixing things?
Could an administrator please comment on when (or if) the attachment thumbnail size is going to be increased?
I seem to remember reading that a width of 800 pixels was being considered, but it's taking an awfully long time to implement.
Most people don't seem to know about the work-around to get a larger image displayed (and besides, it's a fiddly bother), and so the forum is filling up with postage stamps.
This is an Art Forum after all (Digital Art Zone), so I would think that this issue would have a higher priority.
Well, I found Logitech Wireless Mouse M560 It's ambidextrous with a wheel! You can probably get it for under $30 at places like Amazon or Rakuten.com. there must be a way to save the zoom level...my wife does it quite often, and using Firefox, too. I use the laptop and the browser comes up with really big everything and I have to reset the zoom to 100% because it annoys me not being able to see the whole thing without scrolling left and right.

Are you saying the forums aren't being wrapped for you in Firefox? It's possible, they're wrapping fine for me in a quick test, although I haven't tried to use everything this way... see screenshot. Perhaps there is just a setting that can be adjusted somewhere?
We've been regarding 800 pixels as a reasonable dsiplay size for in-line images (the image can be larger, that's just the size it should be limited to inside a post)- as for thumbnails, we have no idea.
Yes, email is checked for all 7 categories (even though I don't know what a "wall" is). I've been receiving emails for days, but today noticed that I got a bunch of notifications that I never got the email for. There is about an hour gap between 12:30 EDT and 1:30 EDT when I didn't get any DAZ email, even though lots of notifications were popping up. If I click on a notification from the list of notifications, will that stop the email for that notification from coming? I'm kind of puzzled about how this works.
+! - I save pages that have tutorials or helpful tips by converting them to pdf - but there's no point if I have to save the viewable size images separtely.
Richard, thanks for the reply, but it's unclear to me if you are a DAZ employee or a community volunteer forum admin.
If you are a DAZ employee, surely there must be a way to find out if the thumbnail size is set in stone, and who we, as users, must contact to affect a change.
If you are a volunteer, I can see that your channels of communication with DAZ may be more limited. If that is the case then my question stands.
The small attachment thumbnail size, in my opinion, is unacceptable for this forum.
That totally made me laugh! LOL
I'm not a developer, but we have raised this issue with the developers.
Remember that you can use the attachment as a souce for an inline image.
I did a very detailed (baby stepped, even newbies can do it) tutorial on inserting images in the main post. This thread has grown so large it is hard for folks to find the information when Ivy and I discussed the step by step. Also, I did not cover how to link to images (such as gallery) so anyone who has a different way of doing this (other than clicking the attachment and using the Image Editor to put the URL) please feel free to help with the different methods. That way we can eliminate the perpetual thumbnail posts.
How To Post Images In Main Text
No! I was saying that my wife often has the browser zoomed and it drives me crazy! The forums look fine for me. Well, other than taking up a lot of space like people are saying.
Dana
Thanks. At least we know it's on their plate. Now if they'd only share their intentions.
Yes, I know that an attachment can be used as the source for an inline image link, but that's the fiddly bother of a work-around that I was talking about.
That weird signing in and signing out thing is back... Sometimes I'll click on a thread after arriving at the forums and after a few seconds, I see a notice saying "signing out now".... Later on, occasionally as I scroll up or down I'll see "signing out now"... The screen pauses, then "signing in" and everything goes back to normal.
It seems to happen on both PC and Mac with Safari and Chrome. (I only saw it once in the past couple of days on Chrome)... I didn't experiment much to see if it was happening on a lot of different devices or OSs, but I figured someone might want to know.
I figured this out early on and it works. However I used to be able to right-click on a thumbnail and see 'Copy link location' from the context menu--put there by a firefox extension called CoLT. But last time I tried it that wasn't there. Yeah I can post, click the thumb, grab url from url bar, edit paste to insert image. But CoLT made it much easier.
BTW, I use NoSquint as a text resizer. You can resize ad hoc, and will remember for specific sites if you wish. Works so seamlessly I'd forgotten I have the entire DAZ domain set for 125%.
Edited to add that I use Firefox.
I prefer the smaller Thumbs in some cases, need to click on a image any way to see the Full size.
I wouldn't mind having the option to choose what size the image is when I view them in the forum, something in Options allowing me to choose the size, let's say I want all images 200 x 200 I could have it set for that. So no matter what images posted that are larger then 200 x 200 . they appear at the size 200 x 200, and I do the 'click on image' to see the full size.
If someone want to view Images larger or smaller they would have that choice just by going to Options and select (we'll call it) Forum preview size of Images, there could be like 100x100,200x200,300x300, up to 800x800 to choose (check) from. default could be 100 x 100
I prefer the smaller size for loading reasons , larger the image the longer it takes for the page to load, for me
, if I had like a faster internet speed like a 3meg ( that would be soooo cool to have that speed), I probably wouldn't have a problem if all the images are 800 x 800
CoLT is still available, open your Add-ons Manager and search under Get Add-ons and you should find it. I just installed it on Waterfox (64bit Firefox).
CHEERS!
Sorry I haven't got the time to read all 36 pages so please forgive me if this has been covered already but I can't edit old posts. In my render thread I have a list of tutorials that I want to add to but when I try I get a "validate format" error. Also I would like to have the choice of using my own Spell Checker that I use for all web sites or at least have the internal one ON all the time and set to British English.
Hello to a fellow Brit!
It doesn't always bother me about spell check, even if it's not right folk will get the gist of what you're saying. At least we all use proper sentences here and not text speak.
CHEERS!
Nobody can edit posts that were made before the forum change - don't ask about my updating the free hair list ... no go ...
I spoke to soon yesterday. 10 minutes after I made this post I got a batch of new ebots and they were all messed up. It was either dropping the last few letters or it was only linking 2-3 letters so you have to copy and paste the link.
You commented in the G3F/V7 gens thread and that link doesn't get broken in the email. I've never known it happen with any other emails with links.
CHEERS!
I just noticed that when you attach an image (it worked today, yay!) and it shows the "thumbnail" or smaller version of it in the post, it actually doesn't (always) show the whole image. It (sometimes) cuts off both the left and right sides of the image. See screenshot showing what the forum shows on top, and what the actual image is below it. If you click the cut-off image it does correctly display it though, it's only the smaller preview that's hosed.
I'm not sure if that's a bug though, I know that the galleries' thumbnails have always been wrong too for example, but they seem to be truncated beyond the edges of the square shape of the thumbnails. Here however the thumbnail isn't just a square, so perhaps this is actually a problem. (and of course it's kind of annoying regardless of whether it's a bug or not, since you probably don't realize the image is incorrect when looking at it.)
...hear hear.
...since we are stuck with "auto save draft", we really need a Cancel Post button if we decide not to post something.
It is irritating to come back to a thread and still see something you wrote (and even deleted) from a comment you decided not to submit still in the edit window.
Would eliminate a wasting thread space with "NM" posts.
