I haven't seen any split links yet, although I'm not sure if any of them are long enough to get split.  I'm using web-based mail from my ISP which appears to be a derivative of Yahoo mail.

On the topic of the "keep me logged in" checkbox not keeping me logged in and starting each day with being logged out when I try to do anything, is it possible that the system is getting constantly reset as fixes are made, and thus the setting to keep us logged in is just being lost, and it would have worked if no changes were being made?  Or are no changes like that being made and that can't be it?

Had a trawl around the internet and it seems it is the sending program that isn't set to the correct wrapping format. The word wrap is set by the sender and if it is set longer than the receiving program the receiver sees truncated lines. If that includes a link then it will be split across two lines.

Ah, so it IS happening their end! Nice!

Mind you, I have now switched to Thunderbird, which, as you said, doesn't break the links. I'll see how I go with this. I did have to compose my contact list entirely from scratch as no import format seemed to work, but, hey ho, these things happen!

YES! I've been pushing for this too, I posted about it a page or two back. I filed a feature request that could have gone through while these new forums were being worked on. We need this!

Yup we do.  I know I can right click and open in a new windows but it's a nice feature to turn on so we don't have to think about that.... Thanks DAZ

I don't know how to solve the broken link problem, but it's pretty clear what's happening.

The new forum software is inserting "soft" line breaks into the notification emails. Depending on the email client, these soft breaks are either being honored or ignored, which is why not everyone experiences the issue.

I'm not on my main computer that has Outlook Express on it but I am nearly positive that it has a word wrap setting in the preferences. I use Mozilla Thunderbird on this laptop and I don't get the split links.

Outlook Express is an old, unsecure, mail reader application that resides on your computer.  He said Outlook.com.  That is a webmail service.  By the way, I think it has word-wrap, but it's just not an option. I think most webmail clients are like that.  I, however, use Oultook 2007.  And I was having the broken links in my emails from here, too.  I turned off the email notices.  It was just too much.  I just bookmark what I watch (it isn't very many) and just check My Bookmarks every so often.

The thing there is that we are using Windows Live Mail, a program that opens and displays the emails we get from our provider. There is no word wrap function in Windows Live Mail. I also checked Outlook.com itself, there is no word wrap there either. It displays what you give it, so, I'm not sure it is provider specific. The email links show up broken no matter where you look and we can't fix that. This issue only arose after the new forums came into play, so that would suggest that the problem lies there.

    CHEERS!

Is Windows Live Mail a webmail service, or an application on your computer?

You need to install Windows Live Essentials http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-live/essentials

  • JimmyC_2009JimmyC_2009 Posts: 8,891

It is an email client, and it comes as part of Windows 7, maybe other versions as well.   I have been using it for 4 years and never had any problems with broken links.   I have, sometimes, received emails when setting up an account at other sites with an extremely long URL stretching to 3 lines long, and they always work without a problem.   It is definitely something wrong in the process somewhere.

Thanks, I was just curious.  As I said, I use Outlook 2007 (actually have Office 2007) and it works fine for me, well...except for the email notifications from this forum.

I have Windows 7 Pro and it's not on here.  It is probably an option when installing.  I had it installed by the guy I take my box to when something is wrong.  He put it on a brand new SSD, and installed another 4Gigs of RAM  at the same time. This was last year when Windows XP was being retired.

I just got a "signing in" message when visiting the forums.  It's not a "signing out"!  Woohoo!  Did I just get lucky, or did something get fixed?

I've been getting them for several days.  Mostly when I've been off the computer for a while, or maybe when I've put my computer to sleep overnight.

Links Broken in email notifications, is NOT done by DAZ3D's servers. I have NEVER gotten a broken link from daz. It is done by the Email client you are using. Yes, I've had similar happen with WL2K (RMS Express, Airmail, etc), so I have seen similar before. I've even seen multiple paragraphs crushed into a long continuous page of words, lol.

Some clients remove HTML links, and others just replace them after doing that "Word wrap" thing.

(EDIT) As you can see in the added screencaps, What I sent myself, is NOT what I recieved, lol.

I use Outlook 2007 to read Gmail through IMAPI and I have no problem with the forum links.

What produces "validate length" error? I lost all the work editing my threads. It's annoying.

So... how are the forums working now?

I gave it nearly two weeks, and I kept my fingers tightly crossed...

I see that we still don't have simple sequential post numbers on each thread, and still can't link to a specific post. This is extremely frustrating (N.B. When/if you get round to doing it, please do it like RDNA do it, NOT like Renderosity do it!)

On the positive side, I do see that a couple of things have improved a bit: when you reply to a thread using "Quote it now scrolls you to the bottom of the page where the reply box is; and the search box at the top of the forums now searches the forums.

It's not rocket science. You already have URLs for each post - simply by viewing the page source I can see the HTML anchor tag for my previous post - here's the URL:

(Note: the forum search results link to specific posts already)

Right Click on the timestamp on the left and open in new window.  Copy the address.  That will get you to a specific post.

The timestamp displays the time if it's a post from today, month and day for previous days this year, or month day year for previous years.  Hovering over the timestamp gives the full date and time.
