I've taken to using WordWeb. It's free. IT starts out with more options but then after 30 days it's options list goes down a bit if you don't buy the license. It's not a spell checker but allot of the times when your mostly right it's helpful getting the final word fixed. If it's something IT can't even figure out I just copy and paste N Go into the Google search bar in the browser and I usually get the word that way. That built in spell checker actually takes longer to engage than all that I've explaned! lol
The way around the problem of the spell checker is to compose the post in Word and copy and paste into the comment box.
So far, emails are fine and, right now so is staying logged in...
CHEERS!
Okay, the quote thingie is messing up and has been this way suddenly for me the past two days. Whenever I hit quote, it used to put that red dotted line beneath the quote. Now it's going ABOVE it every time. (Meaning what I reply will go ahead of what I am responding to.) I can manually go and click below the blah blah blah, but that is going to screw people up now as we got used to seeing the red dotted line go beneath the quoted material.
And the image attaching is still hit and miss. Sometimes the image will appear, other times I get that stupid square which I'm sure is saying "nah-nah-nana-nah!" on mute.
And I second, third, and fourth that we need post numbered. For heaven's sake, what would it hurt?
I think we can now forget about the insert point (the "red dotted line") below quoted text — I've noticed for about the same time that we now get an automatic blank line to type into at the bottom, so there's no need to play chase-the-click-point. The insert point is still clickable at the top, but I think we really need to discourage people from doing that; I know top-posting is much too common, but it totally reverses the sense of an extended conversation. Does DAZ want this to be known as the "September That Never Ended" update?
Problem here, I need help, please:
In a thread I have Post A and Post B. In Post B there are anchors (the red flag in comments menu in the same group with link). I can create links in Post B to anchors in Post B, but I don't know how create in Post A links to anchors in post B.
Is there a way to link from Post A to anchors in Post B? Is there a trick in html code source to do it?
Thanks in advance.
I notice that attachments and hyperlinks now open in new tabs. That was something I'd been campaigning for, so glad you could implement it.
CHEERS!
...now if they can only implement an option to use a browser's spell checker and add a "Cancel Post" button things would be moving in the right direction.
Bad enough I have severe arthritis, don't need Carpal Tunnel on top of it with all the extra mousing and clicking the software requires.
That it would!
CHEERS!
I can't see any obvious way in the editor - I can see how you create the anchor, but not how you create the link to it. How did you create your links within your Post B?
I just tried using that little flag (in the Link | Unlink | Anchor button block above the editor - screenshot below) to create an anchor in one of my posts on the page 43 - I gave it the name 'test'.
I then looked at the page 43 page source and found my anchor - a standard anchor tag with id="test", so adding #test to the page URL should do it. So I clicked on the link to page 43 to get the URL for the page and appended #test.

Seems to work. But there should be an easier way.
For link in Post B to anchor in the same Post B, you need use the Link button. In Link Type option select click on URL and a list is displayed, there are three options:
Select Link to anchor in the text. Select an Anchor box is displayed. Clickon button below By Anchor Name. All anchor in this post are displayed, select your anchor and click Ok.
Your method for link from Post A to anchor in post B works fabuloso. Thankssssss!
Ah! The drop-down menu where you select link type doesn't have a little drop-down-menu-down-pointy-triangle-thingy and I've been trained to only respond to drop-down-menu-down-pointy-triangle-thingies !
(although both the Styles and Normal drop-downs on the main editor buttons do. Can we have some consistency please within the forum UI ? )
Also I just realized that you don't need to use the page URL to link to an anchor in a post on another page - you can use the comment URL and simply replace the bit after the # with your anchor name. E.g. this is the URL of that post on page 43 where I added the anchor...
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/876678/#Comment_876678
...and simply by replacing the Comment_876678 with test it becomes the URL of the anchor I created within that post
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/876678/#test
...and I'll add my voice to those complaining about the fixed dark gray bar across the top of the page - the one with "DAZ3D Forums > General > The Commons > Using the New Forums (In Progr..." at the top of your browser window when you're reading this post. When you click a link to another post, or an anchor, the text at the anchor point is hidden by this dark bar of obscuration. I find this rather irritating as it often makes me think that the link I used has taken me to the wrong place.
I take it all back. All the crap I posted the last time the forums had a major change. The blue on blue hard to see interface was so much better than what it is now. Can't tell what threads I've read and which are new. Can't tell messages waiting. Have to scroll way too much and the quote portion is broken most of the time. At least paging works in the threads this time.
...we need browser spell check to be enabled now. I am finding more and more misspellings that have been saved to the master dictionary so they don't get flagged. Apparently since the spell checker is a third party utility, neither users or Daz can go in and delete those errors. This is not good.
...please have pity on us dyslexics.
Why are we still being subjected to the log outs when we open the forums!? It happened to me nearly every time yesterday and it has begun again today. When we click to stay logged in we do actually mean that!
CHEERS!
It only happens to me about once or twice in a week, but it is still a bit annoying when it happens.
It seems to be stuck in a loop, and can take several attempts before it can actually log me out.
It's not logging out that's the issue for me, it does that well enough on its own, it's staying logged in that's the problem for me.
CHEERS!
I wonder if the "keep me logged in" checkbox value simply isn't getting saved when we check it so it's never really checked, or if something is unchecking it later, or if the wrong value (maybe an index off by one, maybe the next or previous column of data) is being retrieved when determining if it is recorded as being checked or not; index for that column is off by one from the account names, no error checking results in an assumption of false when attempting to retrieve the value instaed of error logic being performed, the value is pointing at a test database instead of the real one, everything is working fine and something else is logging in and out of my account (process for the store vs. process for the forum, etc.), it gets reset to a default every time a change is made in the system, it gets reset to a default after x hours of not accessing the forums, or what. Mysteries abound. Where does that value get stored?
Perhaps it is a wormhole to an alternate universe in which I am not logged into the forums. :-) DAZ could be on the verge of the discovery of the century! That must be it. There's no other logical explanation...
@brainmuffin, you said your interface was hard to read, however I have black text on a white or very light gray background (for the text of the posts, see screenshot), it would appear to be about the best contrast one could get. Are you seeing a different color combination, or did you mean something else? Maybe there's an option to change the interface colors that would help you.
Problem is, there's only a choice between dark and light — it must be the same for the store and the forums, and I prefer the dark store and light forums. The other way round isn't as easy on my eyes.
Is anyone else seeing the screen scroll either up a little or down to the comment box, totally at random, when you click on the "Quote" button? I thought it had settled down over the last few days, but it is definitely now switching from one way to the other.
It's an oddity that's for sure. It hasn't done it today yet. Not to say that it isn't waiting to though. We'll see....
CHEERS!
Usually that setup stores a cookie in your browser. It wouldn't help to keep it in a database...you'd have to log in for it to know it's you.
Dana
Any idea which cookie, or what represents logged in vs. logged out? I see a bunch with DAZ in the name. I could try looking at the one in question before I log in each morning to see if it's there, or if the value changes, or something. Not really sure what I'm looking for though, or if that would tell me anything.
Sorry, no idea. And you probably couldn't read it anyway. Most likely the password is encrypted.
Dana
And clean living is often a result of brain washing.
The forum search is still a little weird. For example, the search for "half-elf" (without quotes) returns a lot of results... none of which contains the search term. :)
(With the quotes it works better.)
Just been automatically logged out AGAIN!!
God I wish they'd get that sorted out. When we want to stay logged in, we mean it!!
CHEERS!
Just happened to me, too. I saw my bookmarks momentarily then...poof! We're signing you out! Why, thank you! How thoughtful of you!
Dana
You notice it never says, "We're sending you money!" Nobody would complain about that!
Dana
...certianly not here.
